Voting involves, merit, sentiment, personal pride and popularity. If you have only one of those, you wont win. I don't believe Australia or USA had popularity or sentiment on their side. Then what did the US bid do to upset the voters? No media stories our anything. Just the best technical bid. Or Australia. Both were better and did nothing to upset voters.

Football is not politics, it's sport. They have treated it as politics.....your assessment of how they work indicates that.On the contrary. They do their job properly. It's not their fault some folks just have no clue how politics is done.
The same reason why the elader of you on country is not just voted in office on merit.
Rather the job of FIFA is to give the world cup to the bid that wins the election for the right to host. They did just that.
If you want people's votes in an election. Don't shame them. It's that simple. For you need them way more than they need you.

Because in my experience big bids are not decided on issues like this. This result was stitched up long since, they always are.I am suprised you dont see how they clearly damaged our bid - it is completley obvious to me.
Some people appear oblivious to democracy.

I am not saying England would have definitely won without the press, but there is no way we would have come last.
There is no explanation for only getting 1 vote apart from voters shunning us due to the issues with the British media.

Yeah when you work on a big bid you identify all the decision makers and what their personal win is:I agree with Peter; not that I have a problem with that, as long as its not based on corrupt grounds
Where the Russians are involved I'd say blackmail is on the table too. They've probably got the hard evidence of FIFA's corruption.Corruption
Blatter/Warner anti-Englishness
Corruption
Pay offs
Other people feeling other bids were better than ours
Collusion
FIFA's agenda to give it to non Football powerhouses
Complimentary meal tokens
Corruption
Roubles
Eboue

Corruption...
We all know you're anybody's for a bottle of scotch and a few spliffs.I want candy
I am not saying there is no corruption involved, regardless of that the British press fecked up our bid. I am suprised that some people dont see this.

The reaction to Qatar 2022 is about to get interesting here in East Asia.
Japan & Korea are understandably upset that a sport they have dominated for decades in Asia has justed slapped them both in the face and handed the biggest showpiece to some minnow.
I don't think we heard the end of the fallout yet.
Why are the Gulf nations spending so much just to market they're country? First Abu Dhabi now Qatar. I suspect they're just a tiny bit egotistical. A bit like me.
We all know you're anybody's for a bottle of scotch and a few spliffs.
Japan and Korea can feck off (that's racist), they only hosted it a week last Wednesday
Which is why people like Rood and sammsky's attempts to paint them as a plucky Billy Elliot/Oliver Twist/Foinavon amalgamation fending off the evil superpowers to win a Disney movie like triumph to improve their honest and worthy country are so laughable...It's an opulent holiday resort/Kingdom for the elite of the elite where the oil rich buy their way into global standing and prestige. They're not even the Man City of the bidding teams, they're worse.
If England only got 2 votes because of the media than what did Australia do wrong in the 2022 category to get only 1 vote? What did the USA do wrong to get only 3 votes in the first round to Qatar's 11?

OK... we're gonna do the blackmail man on you.I don't take soft drugs...only the hard stuff for me I'll have you know.
What if Qatar was called Japan?I don't think that's the way they're thinking.
I think Japan & Korea both deserve about 10 more WCs before Qatar get to host a qualifier.
What if Qatar was called Japan?
And I'm surprised that you cannot draw parallels between the 2018 and 2022 bids that the three best technical and commercial bids in the first round of voting got 7 out of 44 between them when the two most objectionable bids on both grounds got 20 from 44.
My biggest issue with Qatar is their dreadful football team and extreme heat.
I don't even like Koreans (except Park), but I'd much rather they got it.

But what about the extreme humidity in Japan?
And I've reported your racist comment.
That's right, humidity can really be compared to extreme heat.
I'm hot award anyone ever dying from it being too humid.

South Koreans? They look just like North Koreans.

World Cup 2018 bid farce proves Europe's big guns must go it alone, blasts Ken Bates
Ken Bates has urged the major European football nations to break away from FIFA in the wake of England's failed 2018 World Cup bid.
FIFA awarded the 2018 World Cup to Russia, with England's bid securing only two votes from the 22 members of FIFA's executive committee, and the 2022 tournament was handed to Qatar.
Leeds chairman Bates reacted by branding FIFA 'a waste of space'. Bates told Yorkshire Radio: 'I'm of the opinion that the big European nations should resign from FIFA and start their own organisation.
'If they (FIFA) didn't have Spain, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom there wouldn't be a FIFA. There wouldn't be a UEFA for that matter.
'The only way to deal with FIFA is to withdraw from it and let them get on with it.
'FIFA are a two-bob organisation above any law and should be treated with the contempt they deserve.
'It's a case of the tail wagging the dog. We have little Jack Warner standing in the corner, Oceania, the Caribbean, and the oil states. All that happens is they keep giving the votes to Blatter so he stays there in power.
'The fact of the matter is we (England) have the best stadiums and the best infrastructure. If you think of the disaster of the Champions League final in Moscow a couple of years ago when people were being billeted 100 miles away it's a joke.
'And as for Qatar - I always think someone is clearing their throat when they say that. How are they going to develop football? Australia, who have all the stadia and put a tremendous Olympics on, would have put on a great show.
'FIFA is a waste of space. It's a money making organisation and I don't think they give a damn about football.'
Asked if each individual footballing nation should have a seperate vote, rather than FIFA's executive committee, Bates added: 'Should the Bahamas have the same vote as England? Should Andorra have the same as Germany? No, it's rubbish, we should form an elite association of countries.'
