World Cup Qualifiers + Friendlies | November 2017

We were good but I'm not as happy as I used to be. Too much shit in FA and around the team. Šuker is capable of fe.king this up somehow.
He is history soon. Simic and zvone boban i hope....

Feck'em.

They will not last forever and I would much rather see the boys in Russia than not.

Fellow croatians: What happened in the Mamic case since he got shot?

He's using every rule in the book to stall the process as much as he can. His wife was summoned as a witness and of course she didn't turn out.

Who shot him?

Good to see Croatia winning, they have some talented players.

Who shot him?
Wouldn't at all be surprised if it was made up. There's about 3 different versions of the story, guys jumping out of the car, guys jumping out of the bushes, 1 shot, 3 shots, Mamic leaving the chapel at the line made up of his family (like a hero), Mamic entering his car then getting shot. There was even a version that a sniper shot him.
Also few hours after supposed attack he was taking photos in bed with fans and nurses and doctors. Not seeming like a guy who's life was threatened. On top of that the same night he traveled with car to Zagreb so they can take him to ER there. From Bosnia and Hercegovina.(!?)

It's fishy to say the least.

I don't quite know what to make of that NI penalty - I can see how the ref 'might just' think he leads with the arm & is trying to block...

But I wouldn't want to argue it with a lot of enthusiasm.

Can not find a whole lot of sympathy for NI considering how they set up.

It'd be a pretty big deal for the people of our little country to qualify for a world cup, especially with our ridiculous political situation at present. You can't find any sympathy for a team that has suffered an injustice? That's very sad.

I was referring to the manager and the players. They did not even get out of their own half in the first half.

So apparently our lineup tomorrow will be Buffon-Barzagli-Bonucci-Chiello-Candreva-Parolo-De Rossi-Verratti-Darmian-Immobile-Belotti

Zaza got injured(thankfully. After that penalty i never want to see him play for Italy again)

It's a team that screams "we're afraid of you and want to make sure we don't lose". Bonkers. Darmian makes absolutely zero sense. We're basically telling sweden we're only going to attack through the right.

We should be going there and make it clear we're far better than them, we're going to keep the ball and good luck trying to stop us. Instead we get...this...

PS: wow, did Northern Ireland got ROBBED :eek::eek:

Heard Zaza is injured, just reading on the BBC that's how Zaza usually takes pentalties with the run up and he missed none in training and has a decent record just bad timing to miss with that kind of style, as in when they miss they look horrible. Similar to missed penalties with no run up being cocky/lazy etc

Also Bellotti and Immobile will they play as iv heard they are not quite fit? Elsharaway, Eder and Manolo Gabbiadini are also in the squad too, more likely these will play? Should be an interesting game, hope the Italians win of course.

I said "a team"... a very, very poor decision went against them... otherwise they'd potentially be going through with a score-draw in the return leg. You have limited sympathy because you don't have a vested interest. Just the way I have limited sympathy for the USA being eliminated in the qualifiers. Don't try to make out like N.Ireland need to earn your impartiality. It was a very harsh decision, and despite the fact that Switzerland are the better team, it was the difference maker.

You're italian but you don't think football like an italian. Away at Sweden and a score draw is a decent enough result, pretty normal to choose the more conservative option, there are always substitutions to be made if you need a goal.

Penalty decision defied belief in the Northern Ireland game, but overall Switzerland were the better team. Had it finished 0-0, NI might have fancied their chances of going over there and keeping it tight and getting something on the break, but it's hard to see them winning by two goals, I'm sure they will give it a good go though. I was a bit surprised last night that they didn't really put the Swiss under much pressure, considering the stakes and the atmosphere in the stadium.
That said, this is a tough tie, the Swiss were only just edged out by Portugal in the qualifiers and I think the Republic probably got a better draw than NI, although Denmark won't be easy.

Yeah, Suisse were obviously better - they only lost the group on GD. Never a penalty but this is nothing new, as the rule is terribly interpreted all over the globe and for years

Shocking decision. Not only was it from about 5 years away, it hit his back!!! However, I'd be barking on about it a lot more if it we played well and were truly robbed. But the fact of the matter is, we were utter rubbish. Switzerland dominated us for the entire 90 mins and had some good chances. We had ZERO shots on goal. In a game of this magnitude, we really had to go at them from the start and try to get a goal or two advantage to take to Switzerland. We looked nervous, couldn't string 3 passes together and allowed the Swiss to bring their game to us rather than the other way around. So yes, it should never have been a penalty and should have stayed 0-0 but our performance was dreadful and I can't really make a case for why we should bang on about the decision too much. Not even close to being good enough and Kyle Lafferty might as well have been watching it in my living room with me. I don't think we have a chance now to be honest.

I expect Suisse to be tough at St. Jakob park and unlikely to take a pragmatic or cynical approach to the return leg but with Petkovic you can never be certain. Would be foolish to sit back and invite N.Ireland to attack, I predict 3-1

Old dogs going for their last Italian job, if it goes well then see you in June next year, otherwise ground zero and Mancini or Ancelotti in charge asap.

I didn't think NI were utter rubbish, they defended reasonably well. To be fair, I think Swiss were worth one or two, from overall play, etc. I don't think Johnny Evans & Co. goose is cooked completely, if they could score from a set piece or whatever over there, it's game on again. They need to score early though, the team visibly tired in the second half. I don't think it works them looking for something in the last quarter of the game, the Swiss seemed fitter overall, and probably had to do less running. The penalty was harsh alright, not on the level of Theirry Henry, but it was a volley and very close to the player. Cannot have been intentional. It didn't hit his back, it hit his upper arm below the shoulder. I thought the linesman might have given it on that side, but you can't see it in the replays. Also, although he connected well, I doubt it was a goal-bound shot. So for NI supporters a very bitter pill to swallow, but maybe it gives them motivation for the next day.

He is Italian but anti-Juventino like more than half the country, so everything smells pragmatism or efficiency is his enemy :p
