WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

USAs game management is unbelievable
From watching their matches, they aren't a spectacular team when it comes to the football they play but they're excellent at making the other teams play badly.

Their fitness is also miles above other teams.

Our pundits are saying we should be proud to come second. Who the feck believes that...

At least it's not another men's final we lose, I suppose.

They play far more games than any other country too, which I guess helps their cohesion

Don’t know why people are being so sensitive but ok.

A fair few of us here enjoy watching womens football and have enjoyed this World cup but every so often people come along with negative vibes, like I said just turn over if you dont find it interesting.

I'm not sure if we should have rules and enforce them...

Well because a few football rules are not straight forward and have always been about interpretation. A lot of challenges and handballs look much worse when you see them in slow motion. I am definitely not against Var btw, football can't continue to have awful decisions but Football will need to modify rules for Var and I can see the next few years being a real pain

And Morgan will be top goal scorer with 6 goals because of 5 goals against Thailand?
Awesome.

The commentators just said the US sub was coming on for her 281st appearance for her country. How’s that even possible?
Women play way more internationals than men.

Internationals is the top of the women's game while club football is far behind unlike men's whwre club football has become the main.

How am I supposed to know if it’s good or not unless I watch it? Unless you want everyone to say it’s good? In which case, that’s your problem.

From how the commentators are talking about the US team, it feels like half their players have played in three world cups. I would also think that with the quality in the Women's game in the past that international friendlies would be more common and players are much more likely to start international careers very young and last ages

I've realised I've got a crush on julie Ertz.

Zac Ertz is one lucky fecker.

All things aside, I enjoyed this tournament, having watched almost all of it due to paternity leave. Sure it's not an amazing level, but the lack of whining, diving and cheating is refreshing.

With the exception of USA, but that's probably because they're the only really professional team in the world.

So by my estimation, we'll have probably 8 and a half hours to enjoy this before the USMNT goes and gets waxed by Mexico tonight.

Speaking relatively, why are the female USA team so much better than the men?

You'd expect both to be equally good/equally shit but the discrepancy is massive!

Still averaging 20 games a year! They must play loads of friendlies?

Carli Lloyd has probably played less than a hundred league games in that time. The pro leagues over here are constantly battling against insolvency, the national team is the only viable option for a lot of them to get any actual game time.

Congratulations to the USA. And what a fantastic tournament that was! A really good advert for women’s football over 5 weeks.

The rest of the world values football, we do not. Our best male athletes play American football, baseball and basketball.

I would guess that Soccer is fairly big for the women over there, so gets more of the better players flowing into it. The men's team has to compete with sports that are far bigger than it over there which takes away the pool.

Well done USA! Deserved to win after knocking out Spain, France, England the Dutch. Spirited play by the Dutch, managed to keep the US off balance in the first half.

Why would they be equal?

The biggest sports in the states for men aren't played by women. Football is the biggest sport for women there.

Additionally, it isn't just about USA being better at women's. It is also almost every other nation being so poor at women's. Several of the big men's nations have been very poor in the women's game for years.

Deserved in terms of ability but dear lord, they are the worst team personality wise.

Agree in terms of the advert for the game to in terms of the football that was played, it was a fun watch.

The Final is a bit anti-climax. England put a much better fight than the Dutch.
