WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

I’ve got a stupid meeting to go to at 2:40. I’m sure I sent an office memo saying I had more important things to do today. Come on Scotland.

Just to add, I’d take Weir over Matic in our midfield.

Cuthburt seems really reluctant to release it early, a couple of times now she’s had runners one on one in behind but she’s gone backwards.

So both Smith and Arnot change to their more natural positions todsy, roght back and left wing. Smith struggling with th quick and technical Sameshima so far, but Lizzie is fighting well and just had a nice foreard pass.

That was such an awful decision. Scotland have had 2 really bad calls that have put them 2-0 down, harsh as anything.

Is it really such a bad decision? Why were her hands reached out to her shoulder? Maybe we are just used to this little fouls not being called.

It's like shielding the ball out or play, the defenders have no intent to play the ball and just block the attacker, and it's allowed.

I didn't think it was a penalty tbh, but a lot of things slide in football because they happen every game.

It wasn't a penalty, it's a contact sport. Her hand is on her shoulder but she doesn't pull her down, it's a dive. If the ref didn't give the pen then there is no chance VAR would have overruled her and given it.

The referees are a disgrace. Vast majority are massively out of their depth at this level.

As a ref myself, I think the general refereeing has been pretty good the games/highlights I’ve seen so far. Ehat I have issues with, are several VAR panel actions and some stupid rule changes.

You can’t complain about someone holding a player through on goal from behind with both hands.

It’s hard to tell how much of a hindrance it is, it isn’t allowed and it’s certainly not a blatant misktake.

Contact sport doesn't mean grabbing each other when ahead, it means expect bumps and shoulder to shoulder, collisions, etc.

We've become dead relaxed with grabbing people, putting your hand on someone else's shoulder is stupid and asking for trouble imo. Agree it was "soft" but the player was stupid enough to give the referee the option. Why else put her hand there other than to stop the player ahead of her?

Did the Scottish team even moan about it? They just accepted it didn't they?

I fancy her so much, I know she’s a bit of a bunny boiler but, still.

In all seriousness though she has been really insightful and I think she’s been a great addition to the BBC team.
I do hate some of the terms she uses but yeah she has been a pretty good addition. Alex Scott though is quite comfortably one of the most knowledgeable pundits on Sky.

Watching this Scotland side and you can just see there seems to be a lack of coaching. They are all miles away from each other and struggiling to create anything unless it’s a long pop in to space. Clearly good players there in the team but struggle to get them in positions to influence the game.

Ummmm if England got a pen off of us for a handball then that was certainly a handball and a penalty. What a joke.

Hard not to think that Scotland have been on the wrong end of some poor refereeing in this tournament. In other news - why do Scotland wait until the second half?

They’ve been unlucky with a few calls, I agree, though I think to be fair England and Japan to my mind played the better football and deserved the points.

Sameshima was my player of the game.
A bit disappointing for Kirsty Smith, who struggled together with Corsie. Arnot fought well, but couldn’t influence the game too much.

Japanese fans cleaning up the stadium after the match. How civilised are they? :)

I've seen that the players have left the changing rooms in impeccable condition following matches before, this is taking it to a whole other level!

It’s good that VAR is clearing up mistakes but it makes the ref seem so pointless. A penalty and a retake just given by VAR with the ref having no idea for either.

The retake was an absolute joke in my opinion. You will see this kind of penalty goalkeeping dozen of times at professional men level as well.

Yeah she was inches over the line and on the re-take some Italian players looked to be in the box so that surely should have been a re-take as well if they are going to be that precise about it.
