WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

I'm not sure why everyone is having a go at @Chekhov. I've lived in England for over a decade and yes you people are pigs.

This is a joke

Here are some of my thoughts:

1) Cameroon has for the last 30+ years have had a reputation for their rough style of football in the men's game.
2) I think the Cameroon players genuinely lacked understanding of the rules. I don't think they kicked off until they saw the VAR clip.
3) I'm a member of quite a few African football forums. There has always been a strong sentiment that FIFA officiating is bias (unconscious) against African teams. Could this have fueled their reaction?
4) Cameroon will most definitely regret their behaviour in reflection as it was indeed unacceptable. However I can most definitely empathize with their feelings that led to the outburst. A pity they couldn't channel their passion and aggression in a more positive way.
I totally understand their frustration, but if England players had acted in that manner I’d be just as angry. One of the reasons we have all come to love the women’s game is because of the lack of crap like this.

On a side note anyone who follows Women's football more closely can answer this please - how much money does an average Cameroon player playing today make ? I heard the commentator say that all of them apart from the keeper play outside of Cameroon
Not all, I would say roughly half (12 or 13) of the squad of 23 play in Europe. The other half play in the local amateur league in Cameroon.

Anyway is there a chance England could go all the way to the final ? I have no idea who are the good women teams.

On an unrelated note, how come Kirby is allowed to play while chewing gum? Noticed it today and the other day against Argentina.

Is saying that you hate the English fans not a bit... xenophobic? I'd understand saying that about the wannabe-hooligans and shit-stirrers, but generalising a group of people like that doesn't seem okay to me.
Try being American on here... happens all the time!

English fans agreeing with one another that they, in fact, are not detrstable and worthy of being despised by the rest of the globe.

Colo(u)r me shocked.
A lot of the fans agreeing are not English and what has the behaviour of the Cameroon players got to do with England fans?

Unlikely. They will face France or USA in the semi's should they get there - both of whom would beat England on current form. The other side of the bracket is a free pass for Germany.

I agree on all counts.

Anyway all of us English lot are well aware a portion of our fans are feckwits and are happy to judge them as such too. It’s no secret. If we were pretending they didn’t exist and then calling out other countries fans it’d be a different story.

How many fans have to be seriously injured or killed by Italian or Spanish ultras?

I can't imagine the angst worldwide if English did a fraction of the cowardly stabbings they do.

We all agree, but what any of this has to do with Cameroon players being a disgrace today is beyond me.

Every group of people has a nasty part that can give them a bad name. That doesn't mean you can just generalise all of them and hate on them all. I though that kind of stuff was frowned upon here.

Well yes, that particular poster clearly is xenophobic because as you say he's generalising about a broad group of people. I think I can safely say that no posters in this thread (apart from @SquishyMcSquish ) have ever been part of the deplorable behaviour that he is condemning us by. In fact I'd say we all are embarrassed by it and very tired of it.

If @Chekhov was English, no doubt he'd find a home in the EDL.

That's why you've found a home here. Welcome.

jk...

I thought we played really well. Very impressed with a few of the passing phases - very snappy, one/two touch, great triangles.

Without VAR White's goal would not have stood and the Cameroon goal would have but VAR got both decisions absolutely spot on. So you can't really complain.

I agree with Phil Neville - the behavior of the Cameroon players was really poor and potentially does harm to the women's game. The no 7 (captain) lost it completely so rather than calming the no 3 now (who had scored a wonderful but disallowed goal) it just descended into chaos for 6-7 minutes. I thought they were going to walk off. Their coach didn't know what to do and seemed to exert minimal influence over his team.

At halftime Cameroon were out on the pitch early because a FIFA official had to give them a talking to. Then the VAR penalty decision after Kirby was wiped out which the ref seemed to bottle, possibly frightened of the consequences. Then the no 21 was lucky to avoid a red for an awful challenge on Houghton again possibly because the ref was concerned about what would happen if she did the right thing. Not an easy game to ref.

Shame because Cameroon played some nice stuff in patches.

That's my point. Chekhov is seriously generalizing England yet we see abhorrent behaviour and partizan comments for many nations.

I just don't get it anymore. The idea of VAR was to change obvious errors but now they are just reffing the game again on slow motion and video. No point in having the ref on the field

Unreal decision! Goalkeeper dropped it onto Gauvin. How has the ref overturned it!
