WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

Still time left. Come on we can get the equaliser

1.94 to now has seen MASSIVE improvement for Football in the country I dont know how you down see that.
2.Athletes is what I meant not talents but with the growing interest in the Sport yearly that will equate to top talents.
3. I dont think anyone believes they will win a WC in 20 years but will they win a WC eventually? No doubt about it in my opinion but we are a long way away.
4. As for my comment on highest potential I dont mean on current talent but rather there ability to produce great talent and grow as a footballing nation. Which they will it will only get bigger and bigger. Its the US we are talking about. It takes time but Football will only continue to grow there.

1. They couldn't beat Panama to qualify for the last world cup. Huge improvement, I am overawed.

2. Maybe.

3. Someone literally said that in this thread. And you could predict almost any large country to win a world cup 'eventually'.

4. Maybe it will .. who knows? It's not ingrained in US culture like it is in Europe/South America, where football is king.

So bored of hearing from Americans 'we'll be a superpower at football soon!', sorry. Been happening forever. Actually do it.

Wasn't VAR introduced to be used lightly to overturn obvious wrong decisions? Why is it used 20x a game for mm decisions?

I dislike Var if I'm being honest, games becoming a game of tiny margins rather than actual moments. The random handballs are the worst.

I think that's a stupid policy anyway. Offside is offside, every goal should be checked for that as a matter of course.

Goal was rightly overturned .. even though it sucks.

Just my 2 cents, the US men's team will not a World Cup in this century. They are too far off and other bigger teams would need to get significantly weaker

Looks a fraction offside but their lines on the replay are completely wrong.

I think they need to get rid of VAR for offside unless it’s completely obviously like a yard or something. Where’s the benefit for the striker these days?

Yet again a completely marginal call. VAR needs a 30cm margin of error, unless the cameras are perfectly in line it is still a guesstimate.

No it wasn't.

Has never applied to offsides....
Oh yeah.

But is football going to var check all goals going forward then? Can't be a refs call as never in line and as that call shows, you can't trust a linesperson especially given the speed the game is played at.

(Ps. I renemember hearing something interesting on Talksport (honest) where a guy said WHEN do you pause it as a ball can touch a players foot for fractionS of a second).

Who would decide what to overrule?

Offside is offside.

Benefit for the striker should be when a ref watches in real time and isn't sure. It loses all meaning when you have VAR. You can't expect benefit for a striker that's offside on the evidence of VAR.

I mean, we could say that about England since 1966...

Most England fans know we're pretty shit, actually.

Will we get better? Hopefully, maybe. Some good signs in the youth teams where we actually won stuff, but it doesn't mean shit till the seniors actually improve.

VAR will change the game so much & for the worse.

With these freeze frames how do you know EXACTLY when the ball is played?

It was clearly offside though, would you actually rather teams score offside goals?

No, it's correct, it just disallows a lot of goals nowadays for being a boot's distance offside. Then you have the handballs that get slowed down to become penalties. Makes the game more boring imo.
