Zinedine Zidane | Resigns

What do Madrid fans on here think of this? It has similarities with United appointing Giggs, if anything probably makes it more likely as Woody will want to emulate Barca/Pep and Madrid/Zidane.
I hope Woody understands the difference between us and those clubs. Heaven and earth.

Maybe Zidane will be there for a long time and Florentino realized this and is a changed man.

And maybe Balotelli will go to Real and finally realize this mythical talent of his... probably not, though.

Two biggest clubs in the world.

Rafa - Games 25 - won 17 drew 5 lost 3, 68% win ratio - third in league, most goals in La liga and most shots on goal in Europe, into last 16 of CL....job lost.

LvG - Games 30 - won 14 drew 8 lost 8, 46% win ratio - fifth in league, lowest home goals in entire English league, worst December in club history, out of CL....job cushy.

got to feel a little sorry for the FSW

I think the players have huge respect for Zidane, so i think they will play for him and the performances will definitely improve.
Agreed. Something similar to Chelsea with Mourinho. Benitez is a great coach but couldn´t get the respect of dressing room. They simply didn´t want to play with him and provoked too many unnecessary wars,Isco,James, Cristiano...At the end players always win

Hasnt Zidane been taking another RM side in a lower division?

Rafa's team is miles better.

Has Solari been confirmed as his assistant?

This sort of appointment Madrid and Barca can make as pointed out. The worst that could happen is they could finish 4th unless it is LVG.

The problem as usual will be about whether Zidane will be allowed to do what he likes or will he be a puppet.

 Now LVG is worse than Benitez and Zidane too

so is that league to be fair.
Not really. It's generally close between the PL and La Liga, but the top teams in La Liga are miles better. It is the best league around right now (La Liga).

@carvajal, @Vato - are you not a little concerned with Zidane being appointed seeing as he has no experience for such a huge pressurised role?

Hands off Martial Zizou :nono:

He'll probably go for Pogba in the summer and iirc, he's a massive Hazard fan.

Pogba seems like a certainty for the type of player they'd want. Hazard too if he doesn't improve at Chelsea. Of course, that depends on him lasting till the summer.

I wonder the same. In Castilla he played 4231 and 442 but not 433 or at least not so usually. 433 means Bale and 442 means Isco/James. His strenght in the market will depend on the results in june.

Heh I'm not sure he does. I honestly think he wanted to do a Perez / Galactico thing but at United. He will want to make his mark just like Gill did. Why else try to buy Neymar and Muller publicly.

True that he may have more experience (though not enough for the main team) but Giggs has took charge of a few games and knows the club. He will be backed by everyone internally and Ferguson. He's worked with Van Gaal who has put him forward.

Whilst it doesn't make sense to you, to Woody he may well have a strong belief in him getting those results alongside his unmatched financial power allowing him to sign any player - again in his head. He's clearly being groomed plus its the United way, whatever that means these days.

Edited, on a tablet.

Its probably a good appointment. Madrid are full of egos, nothings go to charge there

Well with Zidane there, (he might not be the greatest manager), he was better than all the players which might reign in their attitude

I'm happy with the appointment, I just hope he's given a bit of time, that's all. He managed Castilla and got some time as Carlo's assistant when Mourinho fecked off. He'll be fine.

I am happy with the appointment, I admire Zidane too much to think otherwise.
Being positive I imagine Zidane coming to the dressing room and saying "Come out to the field, do combinative, precious and imaginative play, reinvent offensive football and crush Barça", all in a festive atmosphere, without defensive midfielders and where Kroos,James,Isco,Modric are happy
There will be time for negative thinking, lack of experience and tactical knowledge, too much pressure and expectations..

Definitely. It is easy to imagine this ending in "failure" (what Madrid consider to be failure) due to him not having enough experience and just being thrown in during the middle of the season without having had a pre-season with the team (although perhaps the press and fans will go easy on him because of that). That said, if it does not work out, I am sure the club will remove him and not allow him to cause lasting damage like Moyes did (ie causing enough damage to set the club back and prevent it from competing at the highest level for a few seasons).

Yeah, I do think Giggs is a dead certainty to get the United job in the next 5 years.

I think we'll probably try and go for a Guardiola and fail, and do to a lack of outstanding candidates, we'll choose Giggs instead.

Sadly, the amount of work required at United is such a massive scale that this will turn out to be another Wilf scenario.

I've reached a point that you just have to accept that our management will only change their thinking through it hitting them where it hurts (pockets). We just have to live with it I suppose.

I don't know why, but I'm pretty sure he's going to give Isco a run in the team again. They had too much similar playing styles.

Ok fair enough @carvajal; @Vato; @Raul Madrid
Hope it works out, and at least as @Raul Madrid pointed out - if he's not working out, then no doubt the club hierarchy won't let sentiment cloud their judgment and leave him there to make things worse.

Can't wait for his first match in charge!

From what I heard Zidane isn't a puppet at all, he will be successful and powerful or fired.
