Berbatov | Fulham player

No, I think Hernandez will score 20 goals, Rooney will be more productive too.

Owen will also score plenty as a 3rd striker.
Would it really be worth swapping Berbatov for Owen as a third-choice striker for the sake of about £12m? How good was it last year having 3 of the top 6 strikers in the country? What if Rooney or Hernández get a bad injury, Owen or a 4-5-1 every week?

I never said swap him feeks. I'm more than happy for a player of his quality to stick around.

In answer to your question about a serious injury, well it'd be Owen or Young wouldn't it?

By the way feeks, I just read some ridiculous story about Berba being used as a makeweight in a Nasri deal, who the feck pays these journos to write this shit?

I have a sneaky feeling if Berb does leave SAF will not buy anyone. I think he will be happy with losing Berba and in return he will have Young and Welbeck. It's a risk no doubt but SAF has never shied away from tough decisions.

Being the best third striker in the world is not just about talent and skills.

Exactly. It's about goals and Berbatov had 20 for us without taking penalties or free kicks.

Not many third-choice strikers out there that are capable of scoring 20 goals in the Premier League.

Same : Id rather have all the goals the others are going to score " piss easy " and the 20 from Berb each season, he is a frustrating genius at times, but he is our frustrating genius.

Berbatov will only get 20 goals a season if he gets the same amount of game time that he got last season, and we saw from Feb onwards that when he didn't, he went back to 10-15 goal a season Berbatov. I don't know the stats, but it was 3-4 goals. Its the same with the Hargreaves and imo O'Shea conundrum. If you have a youngster looking for gametime that can do a similar job, whats the point on keeping a 100k a week striker in Berbatovs case? If Welbeck can come in and nad 8 and Owen another 5 or 6 a season, he's been covered.

I believe that if he were to be getting a new contract it would have been sorted before the holidays like Owen. Now its difficult to say whether he'll get one, but he's ruined any chance of getting a pay rise if that's what he and his manager stalled negotiations for.

Rooney seems to get hurt at least once a season.

Owen is never fit.

Chicharito could has been playing non-stop since last WC.

Having the quality of Berbatov as third choice is absolutely huge especially when competing for 4 trophies like we always do.

3rd choice? Chicha was ahead of him rightly last season due to form. Keeping in mind it's all about form with Fergie, it's a bit presumptious to say Berba is 3rd choice on the back of last season. If Chicha has a dip, Berba will get his games. Rooney is probably an automatic regardless of form (shame) but, Berba I think will still get enough games to prove his worth/class for us.

In the season before, when Rooney went out and we were just left with Berbatov as a striker, we saw what that lead to. This season we saw what having at least 3 top strikers did for us - when Rooney was having issues and Chicha was still bedding in, Berba helped us. There is no telling in a season what may happen and we are lucky to have those 3 and Owen.

Lets face it - we are dependent on our strikers for goals as we aren't blessed with an abundance of goals from midfield. So it's even more imperative we have the options up front should any 1 or 2 of them be off the boil or out.

Fair enough then.

As I said, Owen or some form of a 4-5-1, neither of which is ideal, well, the latter not preferred for most matches anyway.
By the way feeks, I just read some ridiculous story about Berba being used as a makeweight in a Nasri deal, who the feck pays these journos to write this shit?
Hits are king mate. Journalists are encouraged, even asked, to write (make up) what they think will get most hits. I've been asked at times to write about Liverpool, even if nothing is really happening, because the Scouse internet/newspaper mafia will view/read and comment/write the shit out of it.

So, Feeks, would a headline, ' Berba in sordid love affair with SAF's wife, using Giggs as wingman' get a lot of hits?

Not as many as an article which talked up Kenny Dalgleish and Liverpool's chances of nicking the title next season while writing off United and compounding a few myths about how great Rafa was and how lucky united have been.

I might write one under a a fake name like "Karm Downe" and then charge a fee to read it.

How can anyone not love this man, I really hope we give him a new deal. He's pure class!

Saw the season review last night and for me the best bit was when berbatov was talking about the loss to City in the FA cup at Wembley...and then he says,"We take mercy on them cause they dont win anything for so long"

They'd still be trophyless if he'd put that bloody chance away.

The rich kids: Manchester rivals splash out for two of the most expensive names in football By Bob Cass and Mark Ryan
Last updated at 11:52 PM on 9th July 2011

Comments (9) Add to My Stories Share Manchester United and their noisy neighbours, Manchester City, are poised to bring two of the biggest names in world football to the Premier League in combined deals worth at least £100million.

Inter Milan's Holland midfield star Wesley Sneijder is ready to join Premier League champions United while Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero - Diego Maradona's son-in-law - is close to signing for FA Cup winners City.

The two deals would make a dramatic impact on English football, with United expected to bid £35m to take Sneijder to Old Trafford and City prepared to pay £40m for Argentina's Aguero.
Top earner: Wesley Sneijder wants £250,000 per week to join Manchester United
With wages added in, the total outlay by Manchester's two clubs would top the £100m mark.

Sneijder has been United's No 1 target all summer and an Old Trafford source said last night: 'Wesley is obviously a top player and we would love to sign him.'

But United have insisted that he has to drop his £250,000-a-week pay demands if he wants to become their latest signing, following the £55m they have already spent on goalkeeper David de Gea, defender Phil Jones and winger Ashley Young.

Sneijder favours a move to Old Trafford rather than taking up an alternative offer from Spanish club Malaga, who are now funded by Sheik Al Thani, of the Qatari royal family.

Sources close to negotiations say they expect significant progress on a move to Old Trafford this week. A deal would take United's summer spending to a record £90m.
In demand: Sergio Aguero, who is currently in action at the Copa America, may join Manchester City
Agreeing the fee with Inter could yet be a problem and delay the move, but the Italian club are understood to be searching for Sneijder's replacement.
The big stumbling block to any deal is the 27-year-old Dutch World Cup star's £170,000-a-week San Siro wages.

Because of Britain's higher tax rates, United would need to dig deep - far exceeding the £220,000 a week they pay top earner Wayne Rooney - to match Sneijder's current net earnings.

United would not countenance paying Sneijder more than Rooney, given the struggle there was to agree a contract with the England striker last autumn when he threatened to leave the club.

The Old Trafford source said: 'It will be a question of whether Wesley will accept a salary which puts him on the same level as Wayne.'
Top dog: Rooney currently tops the money charts at Manchester United

City, meanwhile, are close to clinching a deal for Aguero, which would pave the way for the departure of leading goalscorer Carlos Tevez to Spain or Italy.
Although Atletico were previously reported to be holding out for £50m, it emerged last night that Atletico could be willing to accept £40m - and City have the cash ready.

City manager Roberto Mancini and his squad were already heading for a pre-season tour of California last night. But the Italian is being kept abreast of negotiations.

Aguero would be City's first major signing of the summer and is likely to be followed by the arrival of Arsenal's Samir Nasri for £25m.
Role to play: Dimitar Berbatov has a future at Manchester United
Back at Old Trafford, Sir Alex Ferguson has assured striker Dimitar Berbatov that he has a future at the club, despite the enormous disappointment the Bulgarian suffered when he did not even make the bench for the Champions League final defeat against Barcelona at Wembley.
Despite finishing joint top scorer of the Premier League with 20 goals last season, Berbatov has increasingly been reduced to a bit-part player, with Rooney and Javier Hernandez preferred for the biggest games.

But Ferguson said: 'It was a difficult decision to leave him out of the final and I know he was disappointed.
'But we have had a long chat and he has accepted the decision and is looking forward to the new season.'

I was just thinking things through; I do think Berbatov will get the chance to establish himself in the first team again this year and he won't be made to play second fiddle to Hernandez all the time. If it's true that Hernandez isn't returning to the club until August 5th, then there's no way he's going to be conditioned and ready for the first few games of the year. Therefore, if Berba produces some good stuff during these opening few games, he should get the chance for an established run in the side.

players can take their turn to impress.

at the start of last season, berba, nani and scholes were the impressive attacking players for us.

as the season goes on, rooney started to get back on form. and from february onwards valencia and hernandez were the among top performer for us.

that's one of the main reason why we won the league last season.

Possible Titanic moment:
