UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

Think this 'light-handedness' is an attempt to cool off certain communities going all out against the Police. Rather than concern for human-rights.

Lewisham car on fire

(bloody camera angles)

Is this the English Spring?

So Labour isn't all bad, eh?

I must admit I hated it at the time as it came at the same time as the reams of anti-terror legislation, ban on free speech in Westminster, ID card bill etc. Though it is different to them all as it is a necessary instrument to have.

Cameron isn't going to survive the next election. The longer he stays away the more he'll be crucified.

fecking bus up in flames in Pecham. This is getting closer and closer to where I live which is not cool. It's not even dark yet. I've also been told by my landlord that there are a lot of young people hanging about in Camberwell. They're using the likes of Twitter to meet up and cause problems

It's young people who grew up in poverty letting off steam because the job market is so shit right now.

This will work positively for him.

You don't realise how easily this will encourage middle Britain to buy into Conservatism.

This will only strengthen Cameron in the long term.

don't see what how any different it would be if h was back. Unless he donned the riot gear and led a crack A-team onto the streets clashing their shields with their batons going hut! hut! hut!

Is the army being called in a realistic possibility? When was the last time that happened?

The Police do have the capability once they're allowed to. If Cameron is declaring a state of emergency I expect it will be soon.

They simply don't have the manpower if it becomes widespread.

Is it just me or do the images on the news not correlate with the messages and vibes of the reports. Seems more like skirmishes than riots to me.

Just got home from work - left "early" because quite frankly I'm not ready to be caught up in all of this.

I'm in Surrey Quays and the nearest incident to me is Lewisham, which is still several miles down the road, but happens to be down that road anyway. Plus I live next to a pawn shop...

One or two knobheads lounging around, one with a metal stick in his hand. There's a lot more police cars around too.

Nothing's been smashed in yet here but at least I have the option to work from home.

The news is hardly or not at all reporting events in some areas.

Doesn't look like your standard riot, because your police have decided to take a hands off approach, and without them, there isn't an adversary.

This isn't like your typical race riot, or political riot, with two defined groups. Just scum going from place to place, committing arson, and looting.

They do, they have the equipment as well, they're just not using it. I'm seeing footage of 20 cops in Lewisham watching an empty street. They would have had a worse time during football matches in the 80's than this.

I'm sorry, but that is quite frankly bollocks.

None of these little cnuts want a job. They're quite happy scrounging off the state for the rest of their lives.

Does anyone know if the person who got a photo with goods he stole has been caught yet?

This is where you lose me on the job front, what lunatic would employ him?

You are the most cliche'd person on here

No it won't. Cameron campaigned on the back of this "Big Society" promise and what does he have to show for it now....student riots, multiple worker strikes and now the young from deprived London areas wrecking the capital. Add to that the unpopular spending cuts, job cuts, the polarising NHS reforms, the hiring of Andy Coulson (and whatever his relation in the whole NOTW scandal etc).

Yep, he's pretty much fecked.
