UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

Interesting update on Duggan case regarding bullet in the radio.

7.11pm: A Twitter update from Sky's crime correspondent, Martin Brunt, on the death of Mark Duggan. Brunt's sources say police fired two shots: one bullet hit Duggan, the second missed or went through him into a police colleague's radio.

This clears up the confusion about the bullet lodged in the officer's radio – initial reports suggested it may not have been fired by police. Importantly, Brunt reports that the officers involved in the incident have never claimed they were fired upon first.

According to Brunt, the firearms officer who shot Duggan apparently feared his life was in danger from a lethal weapon.

what good does it do to fire shops.
There are people that work in them and live above them.
What do these idiots want , charred dead bodies all over London /
Charred dead bodies all over london, AND free stuff.

Sounds a bit odd that an officer was potentially behind Duggan, when another officer was firing at him? Of course it's impossible to say how it happened or if he even knew he was there, but just thought it was strange.

In fairness TheReligion, the Police can't beat the tactics we're seeing on Sky News.

Kettling or not, this is small groups of roving gangs moving around then converging.

Have they even mentioned Birmingham yet on the news?

If that what has happened, and he has been in possession of a gun, case closed.

Not enough has happened. Police have been aware of it all day it would seem and it looks like they have the city centre locked down, to a point.

Fecking hope so, the pics in the link I posted above were taken about 150 yards from my gaff.

I've yet to see anything on the ticker or hear it mentioned yet.

Why the hell shouldn't people want a strike back? The businesses aren't going to be the ones paying for this, we are. He who pays the piper calls the tune, decent law abiding tax payers are entitled to justice.

point proven. I was just saying how people will love a good backlash nothing more.

Although playing Devils advocate....

Technically the culture of business and banking landed the bottom end of society in austerity in the first place. While this is not consciously inspired by economics I fail to believe this would have happened in boom time.

They're using brollies in birmingham

I heard from a friend there are some shops kicked in and a couple vehicles on fire, not sure whereabouts though.

All I can hear outside are sirens. Police, Ambulance and Fire Engine. Now car alarms are going off too. Camberwell could easily follow suit

Former Police Borough Commander saying it's unprecedented situation for met police, and support coming from 12 more forces.

Not heard anything about vehicles being on fire. Footlocker has been looted and they've smashed McDonalds up.

Probably speculation or exaggeration, I'll ask for a specific place. Are there a lot of people around?

Tel you what, why don't all you Londoners go and check on your neighbours and the elderly near to you, then in the spirit of community, get together and go out and cuff these kids around the head as you'd far outnumber them. Seriously check on your neighbours.

I don't know mate - like I said, its only 150 yards down the road from me, but our flat faces the back of the building, can't see anything. No intention of venturing out either!

Building on fire in Peckham.

Imagine if the football 'firms' rioted, you know, grown men, instead of teenagers.

And rightly so! Hopefully it settles down over there, but it doesn't sound all that likely.
