I'm in Surrey Quays and the nearest incident to me is Lewisham, which is still several miles down the road, but happens to be down that road anyway. Plus I live next to a pawn shop...
One or two knobheads lounging around, one with a metal stick in his hand. There's a lot more police cars around too.
Nothing's been smashed in yet here but at least I have the option to work from home.

Doesn't look like your standard riot, because your police have decided to take a hands off approach, and without them, there isn't an adversary.
This isn't like your typical race riot, or political riot, with two defined groups. Just scum going from place to place, committing arson, and looting.
They do, they have the equipment as well, they're just not using it. I'm seeing footage of 20 cops in Lewisham watching an empty street. They would have had a worse time during football matches in the 80's than this.

No it won't. Cameron campaigned on the back of this "Big Society" promise and what does he have to show for it now....student riots, multiple worker strikes and now the young from deprived London areas wrecking the capital. Add to that the unpopular spending cuts, job cuts, the polarising NHS reforms, the hiring of Andy Coulson (and whatever his relation in the whole NOTW scandal etc).
