UK Riots (with the exception of Manchester which has its own thread)

Clap for Clapham?

Is that on a sign yet?

Apparently the police are doing a great job in Dagenham keeping it calmer again, and Romford seems to be locked down well. People are still expecting it to kick of for real, but it seems as though the twats are actually waiting for it to start elsewhere before they have the bottle!

This is where the softly softly police approach gets you, time for the police to kick 7 shades of shite out of these people.

What pisses me off is when the police start giving it all the "we're afraid to get involved after what happened with Ian Tomlinson" bollocks.

FFS, anybody can see the difference between a slightly uncompliant bloke stumbling past on his way home, and the some twat in a hoody charging at you with a metal pole in his hand. And nobody's going to blame you for twatting the latter.

We are the home of the codebreakers ffs.

I was saying the same thing to the missus. Reckon I order a curry and listen for the reaction from the lad taking the order

Cans is definitely a result. All the off licenses in my area are shut. A good shower of rain should sort this issue out. Torrential rain is what we need

Everything's shut in my area, I think it's incredibly defeatist..If this lot realise everything's shut and everyone's gone home, they'll reckon the streets are theirs...I get the need for safety and obviously my ends have been central to this the last 2 nights but I still think it's the wrong message to send out personally....As long as people are safe I suppose.

There was talk of a picket line during the clean up, and some of my mates in Bush are talking of doing the same thing...Inspired by theTurkish lads who did it yesterday (and big up them)....I'll definitely go down if the word gets out.

But till then, I've only got some pasta, some Dolmio, 3 onions and an egg...I'm gonna have to get creative!

These kids have just proved what a lot of us have known for a long time, in some places the streets are not safe alone, the streets are not safe at night. It varies from place to place but honestly this problem has been around for a long time.

I'm not sure you need to be Jamie Oliver to whip up a meal out of that lot.

dude, it's a well known problem. Before i moved to England everyone told me about these things!

Eric "The Thumb" Pickles, the community secretary "we have not lost control"

Have just heard from a friend (so probably false) that the Grapes in Hayes is on fire.

Not, I'm not saying this is true, but I've heard it from a friend in the area.

How reliable is your friend?

I have family living in Hayes, this is quite worrying :(

well mockney know you know how i felt last night - played footy - no beer after - everything shut no spicy wings and no cans from the offie - everything was shut and not a rioter in site.

I probably felt a bit unsafer walking the streets about 15 years ago then I do now.

Oh right, I was 8 at the time.

Your main concern in all this whole thing is missing out on your spicy wings, isn't it?

It may be defeatist but the alternative risks ending up face to face with fifty kids with only your broom for protection. Even groups of fifteen rozzers in riot gear are routinely getting run.

You could make a sort of cross between a tortilla and a lasagne. Fry the onions in oil and add the Dolmio, then layer a baking tray with the sauce separated by layers of pasta, then whip up the egg, pour it over and cook it in the oven on about 180 until the egg solidifies. You could really do with some cheese though.

Imagine if shit kicks off and that rubbish recipe turns out to constitute my last words...

Yeah it is known. Honestly I was one confronted with 10-15, 13 year olds ish with metal poles. There was about 8 of us all 18ish (3 years ago) and they came up to us saying how we where "disrespecting them" etc. This was in broad daylight in a borough in kent, and it would have gone very bad had one of their mums not sped up slammed on the breaks and had a go at them for skipping school.

The world is pretty messed up

I felt safer walking the streets 15 years ago too, for similar (and depressing) age-related reasons.

Jokes aside, 5-10 years ago I definitely felt more comfortable outside, there just didn't seem to be as many people around at night mainly.

That sounds like an episode of futurama!

Can anyone confirm if it's kicked off in Manchester, CW? My missus has had her friends contact her who work in the Arndale saying they've been sent home early and that some shop windows are getting smashed up at the Arndale but the GMP Twitter feed says all quiet in Manchester and that they've not advised anyone to shut early, but almost the whole Arndale has.

 It wasn't good I can tell you that, they mostly went for my friend calling him "ginger" etc, but there where 3 guys in this group and the rest girls. We where pretty outnumbered.

i noticed in Manchester, kids tend to act up more than adults! maybe because they know that there won't be a harsh punishment for their actions. TBH i have not had any problems in Manchester so far, but my local mates tell me about the shit that happens in areas like Longsight, fecked up shit!

and mockney all the buses ran regularly from north greenwich - they just had to by pass woolwich except the buses into greenwich - one of which the 129 does a round trip to the cutty sark and back.

I got into greenwich and it was quiet - hardly a soul in sight. then i had to head back home and the buses running towards woolwich ran ok

I need the same, getting so many reports from friends and others about trouble where I'm at, but Thames Valley have maintained the exact same line since 11am, that nothing is happening anywhere around here. Irrelevant now I suppose, I'm about to finish work so I'll see if anything is happening.

Trouble in Salford but nothing in Manc as yet.

Think it's far to say the GMP are downplaying things to make sure idiots don't catch wind to escalate the situation.

As usual, all seems quiet here.

yes pleza - all along trafalgar/ woolwich road all the shops were shut - i had played footy i wanted a beer and a dinner and apart from the kids looting jd sports there was not a soul in site - and lets face it a kid with an armful of clothes isnt a threat

You should have just got yourself some spicy chicken wings or something. Maybe a can of lager to wash them down?
