Nani

Valencia was definitely more effective with his final balls yesterday.

Nani gets spotted out on his missed balls/shots more than others because of his old reputation as a player.

Look at Rooney and his mental fecking chips at times though, and his through balls can be wayward (not yesterday though, wow). Valencia too very much struggles to beat his man at times and ends up smacking his cross into them.

But attacking players generally have to have those moments at times because they are required to produce the end game for the team, and they won't do that by playing it safe all the time.

I agree. I've said numerous times that you have to accept frustration at times with players of his ilk. I'm not complaining, just saying I found his final ball lacking a number of times yesterday.

It's not the most controversial thing in the world to point out that Nani's final ball was a bit lacking yesterday. or at least it shouldn't be.

I just disagree, sometimes is has nothing to do with the quality of "final ball", just a mixture of good defending and lack of options. If Nani "messed up" a few openings then I'd agree, I just don't believe he did.

I dunno, I think we say that because we scored from Valencia. Had Rooney put away the ball Nani slid across to him in the first half or had Welbeck or Giggs done a better job in a couple of positions then I think we'd be saying Nani was effective with his final balls too.

My only real point is, the final ball often has a lot to do with what you teammates make of it.

Agree with the last part for sure.

And yeah, it can almost be based on "luck" at times when it comes to the final ball, depending on the players making the most of them. Just think overall yesterday Valencia was still more consistent, not just because of Rooney's goal.

Am I the only one who thought that Nani was very unselfish yesterday?
Two or three occasions, I remember where I was expecting him to go for goal but he instead went for passing.

Agreed. The only real moment I thought he should've done better was after sitting Barton down, he had no real options and instead of trying to force a pass I thought he should've just smashed it. Very unselfish.

And the flick passes, must've done about 4 or 5 yesterday

In fact, he should have went for goal a couple of times. But it's nice to see him taking as much pleasure from setting up a chance as he does from scoring.

On form, he is basically unplayable. No defender in the world stops him one v one when on song.

It's a theory that was thrown around because he started to turn into the player he is now when SAF started playing him on the right instead of the left, like in that mammoth game against Arsenal where he pushed Valencia out of the team.
Nah, it was noticeable before then. I remember because when everyone was losing hope in him because of his poor form in the first half of the 09/10 season, I kept maintaining I wanted to see him given a good run of games on the right before I wrote him off, but that I was losing hope he would get that run.

Nani's always been capable of playing brilliantly on either side. In fact, his very very best games have arguably been on the left. But consistency-wise, he's always been better on the right. Hopefully that's changing so that he'll be equally as good on either side on a consistent basis, and the recent signs are definitely good. Let's hope it continues.

Playing in more of a free role from the left is the future for Nani I believe.

It's also the best way to get both of our best wingers playing at the same time.

He produced this wonderful bit of skill where the flicked the ball over his head and down the flank. Was lovely

Valencia did that in the 2nd half too, are you thinking of that one maybe?

Nani had a great sort of back-hell behind and around a defender who had him cornered on the left touchline in the 2nd

Nani's such a joy to watch. I was going to say I hope more neutrals start giving Nani the recognition he deserves in 2012, to me he's one of the best players in the league easily... but then I thought if people outside United want to ignore how good he is it can only be good for us!

That's probably the one. The commentators didn't even mention it as it happened.

Only a goal and 3 assists today.

So frustratingly inconsistent isn't he?

He's our best player right now arguably. Definitely the most productive. Could have had 5 assists today.

Agreed. Our best player for me, his first touch, his ability to run at players and his overall productivity cannot be matched.

Every time he picks up the ball he's got that irresistible look about his play. We just expect brilliance from him as standard. Only very special players keep you on the edge of your seat like that.

A long time ago I described him as an assist machine and I stand by that. He can be ridiculously productive when he's on form.

If on form, he can just do whatever he wants and it comes off. Amazing player and surprisingly unselfish lately

It's hard to deny him as our best player. He may not have have performed to the level he is at now for years, but he's certainly been consistent enough in the last few. Now he has added so much more to his game, and has really become our main attacking point. It's becoming less of a big deal to say he is our best, because his performances are on a different level to everyone else. His consistency is one of his main assets, and barring freak injuries, he's only going to get better.
