Sunday 22nd January 2012
Barclays Premier League
The Emirates Stadium
KO: 1600 GMT

Henry OG 89'

Team should be...

GK: Lindegaard

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Evans
LB: Evra

CM: Carrick
CM: Jones
CM: Anderson

RW: Nani
CF: Rooney
LW: Park

Subs: De Gea, Smalling, Scholes, Giggs, Valencia, Hernandez, Welbeck

No fecking about playing 4-4-2 we know what works against them, Nani back on the right as he normally plays well against them whereas Valencia has been pretty rubbish in all his games against them despite his recent form. Anderson is possibly a question mark in there so maybe Giggs in for him.

Seeing as how Arsenal will most likely have a makeshift left back and don't play with a left midfielder, dropping Valencia would be utterly spastic.
Valencia in there instead of Park but I agree with the rest. If Welbeck isn't injured it'll be difficult to drop him but you just know if we go 4-4-2 Arsenal will crap all over us in midfield.

Arsenal are weak at fallback and both our wingers are playing very well right now. We should be looking to capitalise on this. On top of that Rooney and Welbeck are looking really good. If Rooney drops deep like he did against city then we won't have to worry about being outnumbered in the middle so much. Plus we'll probably look to play on the counter anyway. I dunno who to play out of Giggs and Jones though. I'd go for Giggs right now as he's usually very good in big games and I think Jones has been a bit shaky recently.

Did we play 4-4-2 there in may? Quite sure we did with Rooney/Hernandez and we were awful against an Arsenal team without Fabregas and an injury to Nasri after 45 min.

Yep which is why 4-3-3 is a must next week

Don't think they'll have a left back for this one.

4-5-1 is what we do against Arsenal. But this is a different Arsenal side to the ones in the past.

They have their first choice fullbacks injured, so the wingers will be important.

If Jones is fit, id start him and Carrick in midfield otherwise it will be Giggs.
Id still go 442 with Nani and Valencia on the wings and Rooney and Welbeck up front. Rooney drops back anyway so it can at times be 451 when they have the ball.

Id rather we play the same team as today but Jones instead of Scholes starting (if possible0

The talk is that Sagna and Vermalaen will return next week, how fit they are nobody knows. Also they may get a new left-back in just in time for this, probably Wayne bridge?

Doubt they'll sign a LB.
Gibbs, Santos and Vermalen fitting in.
Not like Wenger to panic buy.

edit: remembered the end if the summer transfer window
:p

Hmmm I'm a little torn with this one.

Can't decide if we should revert back to 433 or set up in our usual 4231 using Rooney how we did against City in the cup.

--------------------De Gea-----------------------
Rafael-----Ferdinand-----Evans-----------Evra
Valencia-----Carrick-----Giggs-----------Nani--
----------------Rooney-------------------------
------------------------Welbeck----------------

Subs: Lindegaard, Jones, Smalling, Scholes, Park, Anderson, Hernandez

1-2

Henry (45'), Scholes (45'), Welbeck (90').

I think this should be it:

Subs:
Lindegaard
Smalling
Jones
Park
Giggs
Berbatov
Hernandez

DDG
Rafael-Rio-Evans-Evra
--------Carrick-------
--Jones---------Ando--
Beast---------------Park
---------Rooney-------

Not feeling so good about this Match.

I can't believe people would dare leave Nani out, he's best games usually are against Le'Arse...

He also defends really well too.

With Valencia in this type of form, Park can sit back...

Unless Danny's not fit, I'd play Rooney up front with Park in the hole for his movement and harassment, Carrick - Giggs would be nice in the middle.

Rafael showed great form today so I'd give him another run.

My problem with Valencia is that he's been shit in every game against Arsenal since he's been at the club. True he's our in form winger at the moment but certain players are made for certain teams and when we go to Anfield I'd leave Nani on the bench and play Valencia

he hasn't been in the best form lately and needs a rest. Also SAF likes to play Park in big games. so i think we will try and contain them for a while and rely on counter attacks, then, depending on the scoreline, introduce the like of Nani later in the game.

----------De Gea-------
Rafael---Rio---Evans---Evra

Valencia---Rooney-----Nani

Lindegaard will probably start although I'd prefer De Gea. If Smalling's fit, I'd have him ahead of Evans

Has he? he didn't play against them at Old Trafford last season(and this) and I specifically remember him not starting at the Emirates last May.
And in the 1-3 when Nani scored THAT goal, Valencia didn't start so when have these shit Valencia performances against Arsenal been?

I'd go 4-5-1. Pack the midfield and play a counter attacking game because Arsenal aren't defensively sound.

Antonio Valencia v Arsenal

2009/2010
Manchester United 2-1 Arsenal August 2009 - PLAYED (started, subbed 63')
Arsenal 1-3 Manchester United January 2010 - PLAYED (came on 87')

2010/2011
Manchester United 1-0 Arsenal December 2010 - DIDN'T PLAY
Manchester United 2-0 Arsenal (FA Cup) March 2011 - PLAYED (came on 46')
Arsenal 1-0 Manchester United May 2011 - PLAYED (came on 56')

2011/2012
Manchester United 8-2 Arsenal August 2011 - DIDN'T PLAY

Both of the games he missed were down to injuries. The FA Cup game against Arsenal was his first match in his return from injury and he was on the bench. And the whole squad's performance against Arsenal in May wasn't that great.

This match looks like it'll be the first start for him against Arsenal since 2009. At the moment he's in a great spell of form and I see no reason why he can't continue that on Sunday. You can point to his history against them, but as I explained above, there's not a great deal you can judge him on.

Massive game this. Let's assume Wigan lose to City on Monday (which isn't a sure thing), they go three points ahead again. They play Spurs then, and Spurs could get a result. If they beat them, we play Arsenal three points behind with a game in hand.

We need to hope that the absolute liability Mertesacker plays. It'd be great if Vermaelen's out too. It's not coincidence that they conceded 8 against us and three against Chelsea without him.

I'd go with
Lindegaard
Rafael-Smalling-Rio-Evra
Valencia-Park-Carrick-Nani
Rooney-Hernandez

Rooney can drop into midfield when defending, and link the midfield when attacking. Park will play his usual role, as will Carrick, with more thought on attack. If Mertesacker's playing I fully expect Hernandez to run rings around him. He has the turning circle of a tank. I'd rather Smalling than Jones as Jones has been off the boil a bit lately, and I think Smalling and Rio complement each other better, it's more of a Vidic/Rio type partnership.

Same team as against Bolton, with the exception of starting Giggs for Scholes.

If Welbeck is hurt I'd probably go for Jones in midfield and Rooney up top alone.

4-4-2 away from home against Arsenal isn't a great idea.

Right now i would play this team: Lindegaard - Rafael, Ferdinand, Evans, Evra - Valencia, Jones, Carrick, Giggs, Nani - Rooney

Bench: De Gea, Smalling, Anderson, Scholes, Park, Chicharito, Berbatov

de Gea

Rafael
Ferdinand
Smalling
Evra

Valencia
Carrick
Jones
Anderson
Nani

Rooney

SUBS: Lindegaard, Evans, Park, Scholes, Giggs, Welbeck, Hernandez.

Would be equally happy or comfortable if Lindegaard, Evans or Park were to start though. In fact, after his form in these games in the past, it wouldn't surprise me at all in Park's case. Think the side above has excellent balance though.

GK: Lindegaard

RB: Rafael
CB: Ferdinand
CB: Smalling
LB: Evra

CM: Carrick
CM: Giggs
CM: Anderson

RW: Valencia
CF: Rooney
LW: Welbeck

After the Swansea loss and wanting revenge for the 8-2, I fully expect them to beat us here.

A false 4-3-3 with essentially the wide forward players playing extremely deep?

-----------------Lindegaard-----------------
Rafael-----Smalling--------Ferdinand----Evra
----Anderson------Carrick--------Giggs------
Valencia-----------Rooney--------------Park

Subs: De Gea, Evans, Jones, Scholes, Nani, Chicharito, Berbatov.

I'm going for a scoreline of 1-3.
