Why are people calling Neville "not very talented/only good because of his determination etc" ffs?

Best PL Right back in the last 2 decades without much talent? yeah right!

Maybe because Gary more or less said it himself ? Or rather he didn't say he was without talent - he said there were plenty of other players who were more talented than him.

Neville succeeded simply because he was 100% determined to succeed - after reading his biography - I dare say he worked for it twice as hard as most players who turned out to be the quality he was

According to Tutto Sport we get 400 000 Euros as compensation, and he's on 20k a week.

That's a joke if true. Didn't we have to pay Le Harve a couple of million pounds in compensation a few years back?

So we have saved probably 25-30 k per week in wages.

Does this mean we can sign Sniejder now?

Well, that's a big thing in football. That's certainly one of the attributes of a player and should count every bit as much.

Who's a better player. Adriano or Kevin Philips?

Agree with your point, you are stretching it a bit too far though

Adriano's lack of dedication mostly cut short his career but at his peak (which may well have been much higher) he was head and shoulders the better player.

And I think the assessment of Neville (either one) was a little harsh. These guys were England Internationals at 21, or quite young anyway.

i would never dismiss the talents of either Neville brother

winning so many trophies was built on the likes of them, Butt, O'Shea etc backing up the work of the other more creative players.

Neville for me was the best English RB in the last 30 years, and arguably one of the best in Europe during the last 20 years

Phil Neville was outstanding when he first broke through.

If the Pogba's of this world had half the attitude of a Gary Neville, he'd go a long way!

Gill and Fergie are meeting on the Pogba contract apparently.

Won't be surprised if he ends up staying.

Source?

Edit: Seems to be tribalfootball and other minor sites running the story from my search. Any just slightly reputable sources?

The Glazers or Gill probably thinking they could sort this out with a few bob instead of having to dish out on an expensive player further down the line.

Value.

It all seems to be down to the agent fees, am I wrong? Is it legal/workable to make it compulsory (via their first contract) for our young players to pick from a list of "approved" agents. Not agents that will screw the player or anything of the sort, just not mindless feckers like Raiola.

Huge can of worms that I guess.

I wont be surprised if we keep Pogba, give Giggs/Scholes another 1 yr contact and not sign a CM at all.

If he had their attitude he'd have signed by now.

Brazilians are normally better at doing stuff with the ball but that doesn't make them better footballers. The mental game is a key difference between top players and good players.

Seems all of them going on a Daily Mail story that I can't seem to find. Won't surprise though if true.

god let it be true

Yeah, the tribalfootball article I found mentioned Daily Mail, but I couldn't find anything on their webpage either. In any case, I was hoping for something more reputable than Daily Mail.

As said, I agree, I just think you stretched it a bit too much there.

I was living in Rio when Adriano came through, watched him regularly at the Maracana, and I didn't think much of him precisely for that reason... but he still went on to have a pretty bright flash in the pan.

Spot on.

Sure some people have seen these on Twitter but from a Italian football writer https://twitter.com/#!/Adz77.

- Reports now that the Paul Pogba to Juve story began from a post on a fake facebook page & he is by no means certain to move! #MUFC #JuveNews

- To clarify, the reports on Pogba IN ITALY come from the aforementioned FB page, UK sources a very different matter #MUFC #JuveNews

Yay, he's staying! Never doubted it, the lad is incredible and worth every penny. Mark my words, forget the new Viera, he's the new Charlton!!!!

That is simply not true and is absolutely ridiculous.

Assuming you read his post correctly then I can only guess you're talking about Denis Irwin? Can't think of another stand out RB from the PL era, and I guess Irwin is often considered to be a LB.

It is true. To be honest, the league never was great for right backs and still isn't when compared to some other leagues, but it still doesn't take away the fact that Neville probably is the greatest ever right back in the history of the Premier League.

I was waiting for confirmation. Usually when a rumour as strong as that one come out there is solid quotes to back it up soon afterwards but this one never had that to follow it up. It may still follow but I think there is a few twists and turns yet.

Maybe we were playing hard ball and we've decided feck it, this guy is talented and we need a midfielder. Lets pay his price and throw him into the big boys league.
