Can we actually sign someone with their name on a contract? I always thought it was just informal agreements.

You can agree a fee, even pay the fee and sign documents registering a player as an employee of your club if you like. The only thing you cannot do is register the player to play in FIFA, UEFA and in England, FA recognised competitions.

Didn't realize that at all. Amazing how you can be interested in football and not know important stuff like that.

A contractual agreement with a player stipulating that they are an employee of the club is completely different to a registration document that allows a player to play in a competition.

Some players are co-owned in La Liga, not sure if it is still allowed but an example would be Eto'o who was co-owned by Madrid and Mallorca. He could only register for one though obviously.

Think about third party ownership, Tevez was contracted to Jorbachin and loaned to West Ham. His contract was with Jorbachin but he was loaned to West Ham so they could register him to play football.

So the player had a contract with Joorabchian, and Joorabchian had, presumably, a loan contract with West Ham. I see what you mean.

Is the distinction that registration is a football thing, but the footballers contract is governed by civil law? Or is that too simplistic?

I don't think we'll sign him. But Hazard 7 on the shirt looks very fit and appealing. So for feck sake Fergie sign him up. It's time and our turn to sign a young talent

Pretty much. A players contract will legally specify that the player can only register for that club during those dates and that obviously cannot be broken. There is nothing stopping a player from breaking that contract, giving the club the relevant period of "notice" and getting a job stacking shelves at Tesco though. They'd break the contract in terms of not making themselves available for play by training with the team and the club could refuse to pay wages but that's it really.

I'd be amazed if his transfer goes through quickly or without becoming a dragged-out public affair.

Given his profile at this stage, surely Lille will want a public auction to drive-up his price, rather than do a quick deal with someone like us who are unlikely to compete once the sugar-daddy clubs get involved.

It all depends on the player himself i suppose if he sets his mind on it and only wants to come here. But it all sounds dodgy though, just days ago Poldoski to Arsenal was a done deal and even had a medical in London only to proclaim false by his agent

As long as those who want him are quick and clever. They can get him without such a fuss.

Have been researching him alot the past 7 days. Have been amazed at what I have discovered.

Im not usually a transfer speculator because I have learnt after many years that SAF is 6 steps ahead of me .... but for me Hazard is a UNITED player. Old Trafford is made for him. I desperately want him to join.

In 2 years time, a midfield trio of Pogba, Cleverley & Hazard would be as good as it gets across all of Europe.

My French colleagues who are as knowledgeable about French football as I am about the PL say that Hazard is more interested in developing himself as a footballer and ensuring he is in the best possible place to help him realise his God given gifts. They are all very clear and consistent on that POV.

Some have said he is getting a bit big headed but put that down to the fact that he has outgrown Lille. They say playing in front of 75,000 fans at Old Trafford would be more value to him then being paid 'more' at a club like Shitty of Chavski.

Given his press statement a few days ago, and SAF's obvious strong personal overtures, I have a good feeling about this one. He need United as a platform from which to develop, grow and fulfil his potential. We need a player of his profile, both age and talent. Its a perfect match ... as long as Gill and the agent can come to an mutually agreeable arrangement. Its not as though he will become poorer by joining us! We are Manchester United.

Some of our transfer muppets forget that. Our history, culture and way of doing business appeals to the right kind of player (eg: Hernandez). I'm hoping Hazard is one of those.

He does have one of the best name in football.

Eden, means fruitful. So Eden = Assists. Hazard is life threatening danger. So Hazard = goals.

His name is basically Assists Goals.

Or possibly "unsafe sex" as he takes life threatening risks to be as fruitful as possible ? :)

It was us or Valencia.. What are you talking about??? Even a man driven by money would pick United.

I'd still put Arsenal down as strong favourites should he come to England. There is an obvious space for him in their team and they will look after him well. He has spoken about them many times and I'm sure Wenger will do his utmost to sign him with his strong ties in France.

I hope we're in for him.

If City got him - think Silva, Toure and Hazard - thatd be pretty unstoppable. Likewise Spurs Modric, VDV and Hazard.

So if we're not - I hope City and Spurs aren't either!

They're absolutely spot on IMO.It's one thing I have noticed with him over the years, he doesn't seem like the type who wanna take drastic decisions regarding his career. He's among the rare breed of players (in the Ligue 1) who can express themselves well on TV.He could have left two years ago if he pushed for it (Lyon were very interested), he could have left last season but decided to stay as he thought part of his development was still to be done in Lille.
In each season, he has steadily improved as a footballer.I think he's ready for a move (either to a bigger french club or abroad for one Europe's finest).

I see it very unlikely that we will sign a right back. If we wanted one, we would have never let Sheasy leave.

Fergie will not hamper Rafaels progress by signing another RB. That I'm confident of.

We certainly don't need a right back!!!

As has been said above, Rafael is being groomed to own that position for the next decade and shows no signs that he is not capable of that responsibility, Fabio, Smalling, Jones & Valencia can all also do a very good job there too.

And I agree about the point about sadly letting JOS leave .... SAF did that to make it easier for Rafael to own the position. Injuries have messed up that plan this season, but the flexibility of so many of our players has meant we have not felt the effect too badly. Fitness permitting, I see no reason why RB cannot be owned by Rafael next year, with Fabio covering for him and Evra.

No, SAF was defo in France to make it clear to Hazard that we are very interested in him joining us. Hazard is a smart lad. Im sure his summer transfer will be based primarily on footballing reasons and in that instance, its either Arsenal or ourselves that can provide him the best platform for his next stage of development.

And if you are a player who wants to win medals, would you join a club who has won nothing for 6 years (albeit under a brilliant manager and a classy history) or would you like to work with the best manager that ever lived, who public stated policy is build teams around young players and who have to regularly play a 37 year old and a 38 year old in their midfield (and Carrick who is 31!).

There is plenty of opportunity in our central midfield for the right young player.

I doubt we really know who Fergie was there to watch. Hazard would seem the likeliest of options though.
