Luka Modric / Signs for Real Madrid

It does, Man United's scouting/recruitment policy has led to the longest sustained title winning period of any English club.

And seriously, since when is signing Aaron Lennon from another premier league club considered to be 'scouting'? He is no more scouting than Man United signing David De Gea or Chelsea signing Juan Mata.

Scouting isn't just finding unknown players from foreign shores. It is about picking players that have the right psychological attributes to fulfil their potential, be it at a higher level or in a new country.

Torres cost Chelsea 50 times what Lennon costs Spurs. Let me know when he makes 50 times as many assists.

Despite all your sneering about Lennon - and waving fistfuls of Torres money about - guess which team finished higher in the league this season.

If you lose to Bayern, then I'll predict this is the start of a declining era for Chelski and that you'll again struggle to finish in the top 4 next season.

Let me know when your players are in line to win anything, you have just finished above us by a couple of points for the first time in fifteen years and now you are predicting this is the beginning of the end for Chelsea.

As I said yesterday the fact that Chelsea is in the Champions League Final nullifies not having qualified yet for the competition next season as players see a team that can go all the way in the competition as opposed to exerting all kinds of efforts just to get in it.

Considering in the last five years we have reached the Champions League Final twice as often as you have reached the group stages I think it is somewhat premature to be discussing our downfall. I said to you a couple of weeks ago how you have testing times in the transfer market considering Bale and Modric look far from settled, Adebayor finishes his time and Friedel gets older and older.

Actually we finished above you by 5 points, not just a couple.

More relevant to this discussion, you keep looking backwards (the last 15 years, the last 5 years etc) as if this is a reliable guide to the near future ... when actually it isn't, as Liverpool have discovered to their cost.

In Liverpool's case, there they were, still an established part of the top 4 clique, and then wham, suddenly they are displaced (by Spurs) and their complacency is shattered.

Now it's two years later, and Liverpool are still out of the top 4 and in fact have declined further. The only difference is that Man City have since arrived on the scene to make a top 4 finish an even harder aim to achieve ... not just for Liverpool, but also for Chelski.

I say again, if you lose to Bayern then you'll decline further next season and IMO again finish outside the top 4. The signs are all there:

* Dropped out of the top 4 this season

* Several ageing players who are past their peak (or past their peak for other reasons besides age): Terry, Cole, Essien, Lampard, Ferreira

* Key / talismanic player about to leave: Drogba

* FFP regulations coming into force.

* Managerial uncertainty.

You seem to think that not being in the CL next season (if that's what happens) won't affect Chelski's attractiveness to prospective incoming player . IMO you're in denial, because of course it would have a very significant effect.

All this has come about partly because, as I said at the time, Chelski wasted the whole of last summer trying to sign Modric when he simply wasn't attainable ... and ended up with a Meireles, a Liverpool cast-off, instead.

Even if chelsea lose, many players will still find chelsea attractive since they've been doing well for past few years and are in ucl final but IMO the chances of modric going there will be 0. He won't think about next season if he can already play in the cl for spurs.

I had a dream last night David Gill said we're in for him, shame it was only a dream :(

Both him and Bale would want moves, with Levy's evaluations, it'd be interesting if anyone pays the amount they'd want.

Wrong. He can more than double his wages moving.

Why? Real hardly need him, they have a player of similar quality in Sahin who sits on the bench.
Only because he has been injured all year. Besides, I'd like to see Diarra gone and see Modric, Xabi Alonso, Khedira, Sahin and Granero as their 5 midfield options for the season. That would get 'em closer to Barca with their 3 playmakers, Busquets and Keita/Thiago footballing wise.

If we signed Modric and Martinez I would have a huge muppet orgasm.

We need a new focus in the transfer forum. If SAF isn't currently running down to White House Lane with the Warchest under his arm, then we need to make him somehow by means of a mass-whispering campaign. This will involve stealthy lies about us going for Modric being strategically laced into the fabric of reality, until the word is everywhere, concluding with SAF actually believing that he wants to sign him.

If we had 33m for Hazard I'd certainly like that to be waved under Levy's nose to see if he bites, unfortunately Chelsea signing Hazard will probably only serve to motivate Modric to force a move through to the same club even more

He's not worth the same money as Hazard. Age wise more importantly.

Chelsea will likely go for Hulk for £30m now. I can't see them making 3 £30m+ signings in one summer (though it would be an incredible statement of intent).

Chelsea v2 gonna be fecking expensive as hell

Luiz
Modric-Ramires
Mata-Hazard-Hulk
Torres

Bench; Meireles, Lukaku....surely this is more expensive than Joses? Especially if you ignore the "hey were rich buy a bunch of b-players to prove this" signings like Mutu, SWP, Geremi, Glen Johnson etc.

Besides John Terry, who got all of the red cards?

He'll be 27 this September. We should've gone for him years ago, now he's a luxury player.
After Berbatov I doubt we'd go this route again soon.

Can we change the title to 'Modric to United?' or at the very least 'Modric to Chelsea | Dreams of United nowadays'

A front 3 of Mata, Hazard and Hulk would be fantastic, add in Modric and I can see them challenging for the title.

I'd much rather see United break their wage structure for Modric rather than Hazard. If Spurs want 40 mil vs the 32, that's just one less Bebe we can take a punt on in the future.

We could give them 5 Bebe's for Modric?

Modric, M'Villa, Martinez

Id settle for any of those
