Berbatov | Fulham player

Compare what he said to what Torres said and you realize how great a servant he's been here despite the fact that he's been treated poorly for quite a while now.

Careful now, we don't respect that kind of professionalism on this board. If he was a true professional, he would have nutted Fergie a long time ago and forced himself on the team sheet, putting studs in anyone who dared to disagree with him.

Cmon lads he has not been treated badly. He simply was not picked to play football. It was a footballing decision by Fergie.

Fair play to how he has conducted himself. I hope he finds a suitable club.

No offence RF, and I might be TOTALLY wrong here (and apologies if I am bud), but didn't you think that Tevez was treated badly, back in 2010? #justasking

I didnt feel sorry for him and I didnt think he was treated badly. At the time I just felt he was unlucky.

I think Berbatov this season has been unlucky too although I felt sorry for Berbs when he was left out of the CL final.

Berbatov simply didn't have the workrate, movement or pace for us, not consistantly anyway. And for most of his time here he didn't score in the big games when he was brought in to be the difference in those games. Hes a good guy and an excellent player but its not rocket science why it hasn't worked out.

We should have been honest with him last season and let him leave. Telling him he's valued over and over without ever giving him playing time is a bit two faced, he's a top footballer coming to the end of his career it's not fair for us to have wasted one of his twilight seasons.

I actually want him to stay in the prem, such a silky player.

Don't fecking use that hashtag shit in a forum.

Aah, in that case I apoliogse. I probably have you confused with someone else (Johnno) or something.

I agree with you, from a footballing club's perspective, you can't say that he was treated badly. He still got paid, even though he hardly played. Though from the player's perspective, I think his treatment was a bit unjust, especially if you take into account how Chich and Welbeck struggled for form.

I just think it was a bad call from SAF because:
a) the club could have benefited from his departure last year, especially in hindsight - berbatov wa shardly used (more money, less wages and the chance to have brought in someone else)

b) we've essentially wasted a year of Berbatov's career, when he is or is supposed to be, in his peak. He seems like a proud guy and I have no doubt that given the choice, he would have preferred to move on (even for a paycut) as opposed to be a non used sub/squad player for majority of the season.

But, Im sure all this has beend debated and stated before. So we can just thank the guy and wish him best for the future. I hope he goes to Germany or Italy.

Galatasaray Close to Acquiring Bulgaria's Berbatov

The sports manager of the Turkish football team Galatasaray, Bulent Tulun, has revealed that the club's negotiations with Bulgarian star striker, Dimitar Berbatov, have reached an advanced stage.

The news was reported Monday by the Bulgarian Standard daily, citing Turkish press.

"We are leading negotiations with players who will contribute very much to raising the level of our club. Berbatov is one of them. I would not want to tell now the names of the players we are close to signing contracts with. Negotiations with Berbatov are in an advanced stage," Tulun is quoted saying.

Again according to Turkish press, Berbatov's agent, Emil Danev, already held two meetings with the President of the Galatasaray club, Unal Aysal.

It seems 100% certain that the Bulgarian striker is going to leave Manchester United in the summer, after a disappointing season when he was forced to spent most games on the reserves bench.

Galatasaray have expressed strong interest in having Berbatov on several occasions, the last one in November 2011, when they came close to a contract. The latter fell through over the transfer amount deemed too low at the time.

He's too good for the Turkish league, but as long as he's worshipped and gets to play every week then good luck to him! Classy player, but was not what we needed in the club by the looks of it.

He's far too good for the Turkish league, I would've assumed PSG would be the destination of choice.

It's not that Berba is really slow, but his style of play makes him feel slow. Fergie may have felt that his style wasn't suitable for us, similar to how he favoured Saha over Ruud. Another problem was that Berba never really delivered much in big games, and perhaps the manager just lost faith in him. Bottom line is, Fergie knew what kind of player he was buying, and I still think he rates him highly as a player, but he made a misjudgement in signing him hoping he'll bring the 'Cantona' factor, I think he wanted Berba to raise our game to a new level with Berba acting as pivotal figure for our forwards to play off. In some ways he did do that but not consistently enough and certainly not in the big games. We can't really blame him though after what he showed at Spurs.

It's not that he cannot compete with them at all, Berbatov is a better than both of them but SAF is the one with the decision and is the one who chooses which players suit the team better.
I have no doubt that Berbatov is the 2nd best striker in the club after Rooney

Well thats not up to you or me, thats up to Sir Alex and if he felt he could compete with them, he'd be picking Berbatov at least as often as the other two. He isnt.

You wish. Berbatov has not been making the team simply because he lacks the pace and SAF and his staff have been deliberately trying to add pace to our first 11. His agent confirmed as much.

I suspect that was also the real reason behind Anderson and Cleverley starting the season as the first choice midfield duo.

But our first choice midfield became Carrick and Scholes even when Cleverley was fit again. And we didnt add any pace because Young is about as fast as Nani, who he replaced. And Welbeck isnt as fast as Hernandez who he replaced.

Berbatov lost his place in the team at the end of last season due to Hernandez form. Not this one.

Cleverely got injured again and again. So he was never going to have a chance of challenging any of those 2 or Giggs even fora starting slot.

And we didnt add any pace because Young is about as fast as Nani, who he replaced. And Welbeck isnt as fast as Hernandez who he replaced.
Unserious statement really.....

Adding Welbeck and Young obviously added pace to the team: Instead of having Park or Giggs coming in as alternatives for Nani/Valencia or Berbatov coming in for Hernandez, we had Welbeck and Young as options instead.

That qualifies as adding pace to the team.

How do you know that if he could compete with them SAF would choose him ?
You're telling me that in essence I can't know for sure about SAF's decision but you somehow can ?
There are about a million times more different parameters to take into account in giving a player playing minutes than "he can't compete with them".
It's not just an issue of player's ability and quality

I feel bad for him. He's shown far more class than players like Tevez in what must be an extremely frustrating situation. Going from top scorer in the league to being completely frozen out isn't fair. But we've made it clear we need to make further changes to the way we play. The least he deserves is to be let go with his dignity intact.

Hope he get's himself a transfer to a club that trusts in his ability. He oozes technique and with his style he surely has a good few years left in him.

Damn shame the Berbs couldn't play as a midfielder. He'd have slotted right into that spot that struggled until Scholes came back.

Good luck at your next club, Berbanator.

This season was a waste for him. He said he asked Ferguson before the season if he's needed and Ferguson said he'll play. Then he wasn't played. I'd call that poor treatment. He has less minutes than Fletcher and Vidic. 16 times he was an unused substitute in the league.

In the limited times he played this season he was better than Welbeck and Hernandez. People say Hernandez had a poor season but he still scored more goals than Welbeck in half the amount of shots.

Only Fabio and Owen played less than him.

Completely disagree that he was better than Welbeck, Welbeck has really excited me this season.

You mostly base that on him being home grown and young. Had Berba put in Welbeck's performances you wouldn't be as excited. Fact is Welbeck did poorly as a striker. He finished his chances poorly and as a result scored only 8 league goals despite being first choice next to Rooney for most of the season. It's something he needs to improve a lot on. He's fine until he reaches the box. Then he just looks his age.

Absolutely enigmatic how it all turned out. Such a great striker, still 2nd best at the club. I can see where is Fergie coming from, still I believe the treatment was unfair this season.

No I don't and I deleted the rest of your post as I thought it was complete nonsense.

His poor finishing is nonsense? Well, then you're not a very good judge of football character if you think that. Was he just unlucky then? Only Rooney took more shots than him. I clearly remember 5 clear cut chances where he should easily have scored. Some of them it was harder not to score.

I would agree. His link up play is better than Hernandez, but it's not excellent enough to justufy a first 11 spot. IMO.

Fact is GT that Welbeck was exciting to watch but his finishing could have been much better. Then again Rooney missed some sitters too. The benefit of having a few strikers and playing them allows them all to stay much fitter and fresher. If you don't bother rotating them then the ones who do play nearly every game end up getting knackered and come crunch time they're worn out.

Mancini had the sense to rotate his strikers well......:)

Our strikers were fine and the Everton game is testament to that, our defense let us down in the big moments sadly.

Welbeck did very well as a striker imo, and I didn't rate him too highly at all before this season, his finish could improve for sure but the idea he didn't do well this year is that part I have a problem with as I believe it to be complete nonsense. SAF wouldn't have kept playing him over Hernandez if he believed that.
