Again I ask you, whats wrong if his assist category is low?

Aren't attacking midfielders supposed to set up goals as well? Some people are talking like he's gonna go straight in the team playing behind Rooney. I can't see that happening.

Not that I like repeating myself but.........................

ESPN stats have him getting 21 goals and assists in 29 Bundesliga starts this season.

If he took pens then he would be close to a 1/1 ratio.

I think you have a point there.

It's far from clear that a Kagawa - Rooney combo would be more dangerous than the Rooney - Welbs one. Let's not forget that Welbeck is a great talent as well, and younger than Kagawa, too. Kagawa is a great option to have but it won't be easy for him to become a regular starter here. Let's not go over the top in our expectations.

Yess! Get in there! Excited by this signing, an already proven quality player for the German Champions! He will definitely bring something new and fresh to the team, and i can't wait to see him in action for us!

Hope we are not jumping the gun though, these medical's are usually just a formality, but you never know. Still, delighted at this point. :D

Not concerned re the assists, especially in his first 2 seasons in a top league. Besides, who's to say he hasn't had a further hand in more goals? Just to say he didn't provide the final pass doesn't mean he hasn't played a big part in any goals. And assists are entirely dependent on the person finishing them off. But for better finishing, his rate could be higher.

Over 20 seasons, Giggs is the record assist holder, with 126, 6.3 per season as a winger-cum-central midfielder.

Kagawa's 9 or 12 over his first 2 seasons in Germany are of no concern.

Anyway. Very pleased we've signed him, looks an intelligent player, good dribbler, good use of the ball, eye for goal, creative. Will add another dimension to our game.

Anyone know what the opinion of this transfer is in Germany?

I meant more in terms of are they sad to be losing the player from their league, do they expect him to take the PL by storm etc etc

He's still clearly the higest assist maker, by purely being around for every season, with like 280 or something. Beckham and Fabregas have the best averages per season though.

Aren't 100% official last touch only assist stats, but I do agree with how he's done them, I watched our Treble Winning season DVD a year back, and came up with the exact same numbers as him, as I also count incredibly key passes(sometimes more important that final pass to the scorer, which i still obviously count).

He's a great signing for sure. The way I see it, for the majority of the season, we'll see Rooney start and Kagawa / Welbeck / Hernandez fight for the other place. We also have competition in most areas of the pitch with Nani / Valencia / Young fighting for the wide positions, Scholes / Giggs / Carrick / Cleverley / Fletcher / Anderson fighting for what will probably now be two midfield places 90% of the time. Smalling / Jones / Evans will be trying to get into the side as much as possible if Ferdinand / Vidic remain fit, or they could be taking up full back roles still as well. There's even Lindegaard and to a lesser extent Amos right up de Gea's arse.

I think him, Welbeck, Rooney and Cleverley will link up really well. Gives our attack another dimension. Great signing.

One of the things I particular like about the Treble winning season is that Yorkie got as many assists as Becks that year. Mad. Especially as he was our top scorer that season too.

If Kagawa (or Rooney for that matter) as a '10' could be anywhere near that productive as scoring 29 times and making 23 goals for others I'd be deliriously happy. Naturally not expecting that but confident from what I've seen that the guy has it in him to play the killer pass and add an extra dimension to our attack.

We've become a bit samey, attacking endlessly down the flanks, and having the extra option of being able to attack down the middle that Kagawa gives us will come in real handy. Just having his threat will make it harder for teams to overload the wide areas and shut down our wingers. Teams will know now if they vacate the centre that we can hurt them their so having Shinji should make our wingers more effective.

Good post, the squad is almost complete. Need a CM, or 2 if Anderson goes.

My German colleague who has supported Dortmund for years says that had Kawaga not been in his last year of his contract, he would have expected at least 25million GBP.

He says Kawaga was easily the best player in the Bundesliga last year should develop into a Zidane type player, albeit perhaps not reach that very top level. Also says that he has as many defensive assets as attacking ones.

Hope SAF gives him a motivating squad number. Think SAF should give him no 9, if Berbatov leaves, which looks inevitable.

A quality central midfielder is still very important (planning for Giggs/Scholes retirement at end of next year and sadly Fletcher probably not returning) and perhaps a squad left back to give Evra some cover (or ensure Fabio can be recalled immediately from loan if need be)

Javi Martinez is worth busting the war chest for. That would be excellent business if we could do that ... This squad is then pretty much set and 'our transition' should be over and another run of rude success on the horizons for SAFs last hurrah!

Give Welbeck 9 and Kagawa 7. Not that it matters...

Yeah, Yorke was sublime in 98/99, really was. His 8 goals and 9 assists in the CL is insane, especially for that era, and the teams we had to go through. That's the same as Beckham who had 9 if you include his part in the finals 2 goals, which I do.

If you do that today and win, even with not being as great in the final, you can win the Ballon d'Or or something similar.....I think Yorke barely scratched the top 10 in one of them.
