He will become more important to United than Rooney...As big a transfer in the Premiership this summer than any other than perhaps RVP will become...I think you guys are going to be a different team this season...A lot of exciting scoring ahead

I hope so. The barcelona model get's knocked but no one plays percentage balls better then Scholes. Kagawa and Cleverly are intelligent players and we needed that badly.

There was talk about Cleverly and Scholes. Personally while the long balls great now and then for counter attack etc, I don't want us to play that way. I want us to be more incisive with clever passing. It only leads to better ball retention.

Missed the match yesterday due to travelling. So, can anyone who watched give me a brief rundown on how the midfield functioned defensively?

I've watched the goals, but a couple of those were due to poor defending/goalkeeping, and little or nothing the midfield could have done anything about, but in general, did Cleverley/Kagawa offer enough protection? What say the tards?

On the whole they did fine. However it did happen on more than just a few occasions where Kagawa and Cleverley were both in and around the box. I don't see it being a partnership we'd look to use if I'm honest.

hence the reason why it aint actually too much of a luxury to have van persie in our squad, it would give us 2 seriously talented forwards aswel a 2 very talented up and coming players backing them up.

Perfect blend IMO

Yeah Shinji plays like an in the hole short range box to box player. Almost like a striker but from deep. Getting the ball around the area and moving it to either create a critical pass or a shot for himself. I think he's going to be fantastic to be honest.

Not trying to get too wound up in it all. I think it's going to be exactly what we need and if we can get the striker jigsaw to fit I can see him having a very good debut season.

(fingers crossed jpg)

The way the MUTV commentators say his name is pretty annoying, 'Kagawer'.

Shinji's blog

Just concluded 3 friendly matches.
Again, there was something new every day and the entire week was a full of excitement.

For the match against Hannover – I was able to score a goal. Though my physical strength is not at an optimum level and there is still a room for improvement, goal is a goal and I was glad that I was able to show the world and teammates what I am capable of!

As a part of Manchester United player, a match in Germany was an “away” match. But having played in this country for 2 years – I felt like I was back in my home. There were many German supporters calling my name and cheering. I just can’t express how thankful I was to the supporters in Germany.

The match against Barcelona — stunning.
Having faced star players like Iniesta and Messi, one thing I found out was that their body shape was just like mine – unlike many players in Manchester United, they are not massive. But once the match begins, they overwhelmed the crowd with stunning performances.
From now on, I’ve got to fight against these figures and I came to reassure once again that I have to train rigorously to get to the stage where I can play better and stronger than now.

One more thing on this match. Right after the match was over — for some reason — Iniesta came over to me and asked to exchange our jersey. He is one of the players that I have been admiring and looking up to. At the moment of the exchange, I was acting like a football fan and couldn’t express how happy I was! At the same time, I swore in my mind to be like him as a player.

I’m on my way to Japan now for the Japan National Team match against Venezuela. While on the road, I was watching football matches for the Olympic games. Both male and female teams overwhelmed me. The teams were united as “one”. Especially for the female squad – they strived against the US and giving their best shots. As a Japanese and a professional football player, I am extremely proud of who I am. On the match against Venezuela on the 15th, I’ll incorporate all these great input from the peers, and win the match.

Thank you for your great and courageous support!

Shinji

Love him to bits already, and good to see that he is already wanting to improve.

I'm sure the Barcelona players took a shine to player like Shinji who operates so well between the lines...I've seen him plenty of times but never against Barcelona and, frankly, it's my litmus test for an attacking player...He showed the qualities that are hard to reproduce against the very best and did it with a cutting edge & perhaps most impressively, without fear...He's a competitor

He rode some of Busquet's challenges as well as i have ever seen anybody do it.

I think he managed to get passed him more times than he tackled him, which is very impressive as although i dont like him much, he is a hell of a DM.

Interesting bit about the different body types between Barca and our players. "More massive". Probably needed to deal with the PL physicality.

It makes you wonder how much the speed/agility of our players is compromised by the fact that they have to be big enough to tussle with the likes of Kevin Davies every weekend. I also wonder how much time an English team spends in the gym working on physique rather than working on ball skills compared to your average Spanish team.

I think it's easy to read too much into that. I mean, look at the build of the two players in our team who've had the most success in the Premier League - Giggs and Scholes.

I think Kagawa meant more in stature than body mass as such, barcelona are a very small team, "like himself", as he is only 5ft 8 or so.

Most of barcelonas average height is that, i would amagine ours is easily 6ft.

I love him already! He seems like such a nice guy not to mention us not half bad at football either. Shame he's travelling for a friendly game, might ruin the chances of seeing start on Monday - I think is preseason form has earnt it to be fair.

Even though he hasn't actually played a real match yet?

So he's here for 2 months, and already he wants to go to Barcelona. :wenger:

Not that it's important, but Scholes is not in any way small in stature.

He may be short, be he is quite buff and strong in both the upper body and legs. There is a clear difference between someone like him and Shinji.

scholes has a sturdy build...iniesta and messi are much more lithe and svelte, more similar to kagawa.

giggs is lithe and svelte but he's also 3-4" taller than the barca lads.

Kagawa has that barca build and height exactly.

Don't be like that, Hectic, you know you love him.

You're right I do, but my natural make-up is part-cnut, so it was purely instinct.

Messi's more similar to Scholes in built than he is to Kagawa's. Easily.

I suspect he can't be, not really. It's just over excitement. He has to actually do something first to become a favourite.

Or meaning either it seems.
