Anderson

This "fitness" shit has to end. What in today's game make you bring it up? Did he look tired before he got subbed? No.

He was shattered but playing 80 minutes is pretty good going as I imagine he covered a lot of distance and hadn't played that much in the month previous (90 minutes against Cluj on the 2nd and 20 minutes against Stoke on the 20th).

Like Sultan said, once Anderson went off and Fletcher was moved things went to pot but I suppose we didn't have much option with the subs.

Good lord, he asked to come off because he was absolutely wrecked.

When Anderson gets tired he likes to play as a striker/offside, he pretty much swapped positions with Welbeck before the substitution.

Fantastic performance though. I don't think it's a fitness issue, it's more of a pacing issue. The best marathon runner in the world would tire on a football pitch if he spent 90 minutes sprinting all over everywhere. Anderson possibly needs to learn how to conserve his energy better.

Would have won the game if he could have lasted the 90 minutes. Shame as it was a great performance beforehand

Hardly playing any games and people expect him to be completely match fit at the pace he plays? And let's not use Giigs as an example because he is an anomaly not the norm.

Such a shame that fitness is the problem.

After such performance, you would expect him to start on Saturday, but he's going to sit on the bench, because he can't even play one full game and still needs a rest.

The commentator on my feed said that Anderson has asked to come off.

Once he stops getting injured every few weeks, he can work on his fitness.
The talent was there.. This season he is consistently putting in some good performances.
Bit by bit its coming together... We can still have 6-7 seasons of a top midfielder if things go right....
I hope they do. Love watching him when he's on form

still a good young player, SAF has kept him in the squad cause he still believes he can do a job for us and I think he can too.

Btw, Sir Alex really seemed pleased with him when he came off. Hopefully he'll get to start more in the League. Potentially, a midfield of Carrick, Cleverley and Ando is very sexy.

Brilliant yesterday. Best performance by a central midfielder this season.

I see a lot of comments about how his fitness isn't up to scratch, but Yaya Toure is always blowing out of his arse after 70/80 minutes too. It's the nature of players who play in such explosive bursts.

I think we saw the real Anderson yesterday. In an advanced midfield role, driving us forward and being creative.

He's doing all he can - making a difference every time he gets a game. Can't be far from the PL starting 11 now.

He's got the tools to be great. If the fat f****r would only lose some weight.

How sweet it would be if he fulfilled his early promise! I'd feel like one of those grizzled old prospectors who's been panning for gold his whole life and finally stumbles on the mother lode.

Very good point.

Had a great game yesterday unfortunately looked really exhaust after 60 minutes or so.

I think we all know that the lad has bags of talents but he also needs the work ethic to match his talent if he wants to become a top player.

Imagine the lad had the work ethic and physic of Ronnie, I doubt anyone would still ask who can replace Scholes one day.

He was immense yesterday. The amount of times he ran with the ball through the midfield past Mikel was just brilliant. Was very good in pressing the Chelsea players and pressuring them into poor passes.

You don't deserve to watch football. Clueless.
Same in the Powell thread too.

What's wrong in saying that Anderson linking up with Cleverley made the latter's play much better and fluid last season? Has Cleverley hit the same heights of early last season since?

Clueless.

On a personal note, I can't wait to see a midfield trio of Cleverley, Ando and Carrick again. That's the football I enjoy watching us play, even if it means an arguably weaker defensive spine.

Agreed. Yes, he does have some fitness issues, but you'd be inclined to be more lenient towards him because of the amount of pressing, penetrating runs and fluid one-twos he does when he's on the pitch.

He was defending from the front. Our first two goals was because of him pressing high up the pitch and winning the ball back.

Was concerned that he looked totally knackered around the 70 minutes mark playing as the most advanced midfielder. At 24 he should be finishing games with enough gas left in the tank. I find the same issue with Kagawa. He gets tired around the hour mark too.

Hopefully, by working on their strength and fitness they would improve this aspect of their game. It is one thing stopping them from becoming truly world class. Seem to have all the footballing skills in their bag.

Tbf to ando on his fitness it's not easy to play attacking mid in the way he was bursting from deep, it takes a lot of energy and then throw in that Chelsea dominated the ball and we didn't really settle into a passage of possession domination than it was a tiring game playing the way ando did esp as he's had few games where he's played at least an hour this season.

Anderson 60mins Scholes 30mins simple. Pity he cant manage more. At 24 you'd expect better from him in terms of his lungs. Otherwise a really enjoyable performance...

He did more than 60 yesterday.

And give him a break, the lad gets injured every season and never really gets chance to fully build up his fitness. And, as someone above mentioned, one of the best midfielders in the World who plays in similar bursts has the same issue aged 29!

Like Nani, there is a fixed fault\critisizm in everyone's mind here for Anderson.

Yesterday didn't look too tired. Yes not as much energy as the first half but still did well. Also consider the injury comeback and his position, mostly his constant pressing and burst of runs , he is bound to tire more.

If he plays regularly, he will be our best midfielder for the next few years. I love him.

Also many players lookd tired after 80 mins in a match. Anderson is not the only one!

He was tremendous last night.

My problem is that he never even looks fit. He's clearly overweight, which given he's paid however many tens of thousands of pounds a week to play football is simply unnaceptable.

I understand he's had injury problems, but that doesn't excuse it. They have the facilities to stay trim, as well as access to the best nutrition. Only have to look at photos from previous seasons to see the difference. Fact is, when you're unfit its much easier to get injured, even little niggles become problematic.

Its not about giving him a break or about his injuries. Its simply not good enough imo. Harsh maybe and bound to be an unpopular view but unless his stamina improves he'll always be a liability in scenarios like last night, simple as that.

Id love us to be in a position where we could rely on him to put in another full shift at the weekend.

He wasn't a liability in last night's scenario. He gave us a shot at winning the match. I don't mind a "liability" like that.

And everyone is ignoring Feed Me's point about players like him and Toure. Anderson the guy pressing high up the pitch and giving Chelsea players no space (resulting in the first goal) and he was the one making driving runs at the Chelsea defence at every opportunity.

He might doesnt look as fit as Ronaldo but none of us really knows anything about his fitness unless you work for United med department

And Fergie seemed delighted with him last night when he came off. I have no reason to be miffed at him for coming off if Fergie doesn't.

So a central midfielder who tires v badly in the last 30mins isnt a liability? Cmon the fook! Just because Toure does it too doesnt make it ok either....

very strange logic. The position he plays in encompasses a lot more than pressing and driving runs....Sure if that was the case Tunnicliffe is great at both of them ! Sorted!

Tunnicliffe was rubbish.

My point is that Toure is CLEARLY not a liability to City. Some would say he's what makes them better than us. He's one of their biggest assets. And maybe, possibly, there is some truth to FM's (the poster, not the game) suggestion that players of that ilk tire more easily. It's something to think about.

Rubbish. I know that if a person is carrying an extra half a stone or more than they were of body fat, they're not going to be as fit as they would be if they weren't.

Keeping the weight off is simple if you're dedicated - if you consume more calories than you burn you put weight on. If you're injured, and therefore burning less calories than you were, you need to reduce the calories you're taking in. It's all about discipline.

Ryan Giggs is apprently the same weight as he was (give or take) when he started. That's no accident. He may have the advantage of being more athletic but I bet his diet and training are spot on. hence he's still around at the age of 38.

Look at any physical sport - the people who have long, fruitful careers and reach the top are 99% of the time those who are dedicated and look after their bodies.

In my opinion there's no excuse for a pro-player to be overweight, especially one earning huge sums of money with access to the best technology, the best doctors and everything else in between. A player who can't keep on top of it probably has, in my opinion, the wrong attitude.

He should play on Saturday, he deserves it as he's played well this season when given the chance.

Slight concern though is how he tires around the 70th minute mark, and just looks knackered.
