All right, Navas being the rich man's Valencia was perhaps a bit exaggerated but I do think Navas is more talented than Valencia. He is perhaps even quicker, has a left foot and technically better. You could argue he is not as effective as Valencia is but he is playing in a worse side and Valencia's stats weren't great when he played for Wigan.

Either way both Navas and Valencia are similar players but Nani has a lot more variety to his play than both of them.

Nani starts against Ecuador and had a great chance to equalize.

Valencia scored for Ecuador.

Well apparently he has just assisted for the 2nd - Nani that is.

Poor game for him from what I have watched, but since he is almost always one of their better players whenever I watch them, I guess he can have an off game too. Good assist though.

In the doghouse, alright.

Its simple really pal. Ignore the red tinted folk and just look at things from a footballing perspective... our biggest game of the season, he is fully fit and nowhere to be seen. Whether or not people want to accept it and as much as I love him at United...it looks very bleak

Mental that he wasn't even on the bench...he is a brilliant player, who just doesn't get the chances Valencia has been getting this season.

The downside to Nani is that he is an attacking winger

I doubt he was ever going to sign a new contract, but there's really not much chance of him signing one now - he won't be happy being left out.

I can understand why he was left out though. We were never going to put him on the pitch away against Real. I expect him to at least be on the bench in the second leg.

Not that I intend to quarrel with you, but why was it so obvious we were never going to use him on the pitch against Real? There has to be a good explanation for this, but I have no idea what it is.

Because Fergie doesn't trust him defensively, and we would only sacrifice that if we got behind by two which was very unlikely. Even at 2-1 he would still have played it safe and used Valencia.

And probably rightly so.

I think he's the type of player we need in these type of games, rather like Welbeck and RVP, he has that agility and ability to be unpredictable on the counter which can make him lethal. Players like Rooney and Valencia are too static and make us less effective on the counter in my opinion.

Pretty unbelievable that he doesn't get into the squad but Valencia does. And no Valencia doesn't really contribute too much defensively. He'll start against reading, play well and better than any of our other wingers and then get dropped again for the QPR and Madrid games. It's quite frustrating really because talent and even form wise he definitely should atleast be on the bench.

Maybe if he signed his contract offer.

Perhaps I'm being generous, but could his omission simply be because we were playing reasonably narrow a lot of the time and we had Valencia to come on as a (defensive) winger? We needed central players a bit more.

He'll play Saturday and probably start the second leg. We was never going to use wingers in this game and he hasn't played much football to be worth the risk of putting on off the bench for a game like this.

Would he have been any worse than Kagawa as the player designated to run in behind when we hit the long ball counter over and over in the first half?

He could have played the Rooney role more than Kagawa tbh.

Welbeck should have been in the center in the first place on Alonso like they switched to in the 2nd.

Then Nani could have started left or right if he was in form. But really he isn't trusted enough anymore after his 3 poor defensive displays/brainfarts this season.

1) Is he going out on loan so he can play on Saturday?
2) You think he may start the second leg? In what position? If left, then Welbeck deserves to start. If right, Valencia is more reliable.

Ha ha. You joker! Well monday, either way next game.
2) I dont think we should be mentioning Valencia in terms of keeping anyone out the side at the minute. We'll just wait and see.

Unfortunately it looks like his time with us is coming to an end. I still think he's comfortably our third best attacking player when on form.

It's that he has yet to sign a contract.

Huh ?

We played Rio through his negotiations and so did Rooney, Vida, Evra. He's pissed of SAF with his attitude and 3 poor defensive displays cum brainfarts in crucial games while not giving much to attack.

Hate him as you much but Valencia is more reliable than him in terms of down the flank defending and keeping width.

Back to being frustrated by this scenario.

Obviously he will play Monday in the cup but Nani has lit up many CL nights for us and surely would terrorise Real going forward.

If we are serious about going to at them at OT Nani should start. It's very nice to have workrate but Nani is capable of tracking back and simply offers so much going forward.

I think he's already told us he wont sign a new deal and that's the main reason he's not been involved (when fit). I expect him to be sold in the summer and at a reduced price because of his contract situation which is terrible for us.

If im totally wrong then last nights game will probably have him thinking why he'd sign a new deal when he cant even make the bench in one of our biggest games in years.

Well if hes told us he wont be signing a new deal then he should realise we aren't going to build a team around him and upset other players when hes fecking off next year.

Not sure whats happened here as hes always said and looked so happy at the club.

Even if he has not signed a contract, he's still a Manchester United player for the meantime. This is a business, not a cult. What's the benefit of letting him rot on the sidelines? At least it'll increase his going price.

And this has nothing to do with his selection for the game, just a general observation.

Who was the last player we benched due to contract negotiations ?

And if he is being left out due to that, then we would have sold him off in January surely ? Or not play him at all ?

Why the hell would we leave him out of Big games only ?
