Shinji Kagawa

I actually knew you'd say that because of your bias. Rooney was poor vs. West Brom, Sunderland, and Southampton. He's been our best player this season, but it's incredibly annoying not to see Kagawa when the former has struggled to influence fixtures lately...

My bias? I have no bias here but Kagawa hasn't impressed and it seems as though he can do no wrong from some sections of our support. What has Kagawa actually done to deserve a start so far? It's got nothing to do with bias, it's form and Kagawa knew exactly what sort of club he was coming to when he came here. Our front line is one of the most competitive in England, if not Europe. He has to deserve his selection.

Thought we could have tried bringing him on, given that we were clearly trying to get in with RVP/Rooney running of the last man you'd think he'd be one of the better suited players to utilize that tactic and personally thought both Rooney and RVP were looking tired. Hopefully he'll get a game midweek.

They'll see Moyes as a joke now, a guy so afraid of Southampton he had to add another CB.
It was defensive sub alright so even though it wasn't the best decision is somehow understandable.

However putting Giggs on the right instead of Kagawa, and even Welbeck on for Fellaini when you defend the lead? Shocking.

It's either he doesn't trust him or doesn't know him as a player...

I think he doesn't want to play him wide left and doesn't want to replace Rooney. I can't blame Moyes on this.

Probably a dilemma for him.. but atleast sub him on.

I agree, it's not just about this non-inclusion of Kagawa, it's all three substitutions that were completely stupid.

Just give him a bit of game time. He doesn't have to start, but at least give him a chance instead of making overly defensive subs. The guy might have not been brilliant so far but he's shown glimpses of having some ability. It'd be really frustrating if he just gets sold without ever actually getting a sustained run in the team to impress.

We are struggling to keep possession, especially by keeping the ball on the ground. If only we had a technical footballer who excels in short passes...

Nah. Let's just clog it up the pitch and hope we catch a defender napping.

He can do no wrong? Look at what has been said this season. Most agree that he won't be able to get a first team position, for different reasons. It isn't about him starting, it's about Rooney's heavy influence on the club. It's that bad that Smalling was brought on, instead of Kagawa. Against West Brom, Kagawa came off when he played better than Rooney. Against Sunderland, it was Januzaj and Nani, though his delivery was poor, who both tried to influence game attacking wise. And today, it was no different. Rooney needs to do more. He's bloody talented, he doesn't need me to say that, but his consistency for someone who is on his salary is quite shockingly poor.

Who is talking about starting him at the moment??

People are rightfully concerned, because he does not get game time what so ever. He played a grand total of 45 minutes in this PL season. This is nothing.

So, how can he make a case for himself, if he does not play? Unless he is really poor in training, which would be the exact opposite to Dortmund and his first year at United, there is little he can do. Maybe he has already lost motivation, because of the lack of faith by Moyes. If that is the case, a transfer is pretty much certain.

People should not expect us (Dortmund) to pay more for him that he has brought us, though. As far as I and the majority of the fans and officials are concerned, you went from misusing him last year to not using him at all this year. It will probably take Klopp half a season (which is why I can only see a transfer in the winter) to get him back on track and while he would add a lot to our team especially vs. defensive opponents, he is far from absolutely needed. This and the reinvigorated interest in Kevin De Bruyne won´t make us the generous negotation partner United fans will hope for.

Have you thought that perhaps he does train well but other players have trained better?

45 minutes this PL? It's criminal when you put it like that considering how much rotation the side gets. People going on about how he hasn't earned a place but he's not really been given a chance. His 45 minutes consisted of a match where he did alright and was pulled off at half-time from which we got beat 2-1.

Ah if only Kagawa played for Everton rather then Dortmund.

Yup, agree with that. It's not like we've had anything to lose today, Rooney had an off-game ( or quite basically, the 4-4-2 we've seen today just doesn't work if Rooney's not dropping deep the whole game ) and it's not like SOTON are some physical giants. It's stupid that Rooney and Robin are undropable right now and Hernandez/Kagawa are suffering from it. If our strikers are not working, then either change the system or change the strikers.

Yeah but don't forget Januzaj is the fecking second coming for United and England, right?

If only Kagawa had played for United like he did for Dortmund.
Maybe it's the food....

Was he even given the chance to do that? FFS he's barely given a first team chance these days. Meanwhile the bean pole with funny hair and zero creativity is given countless chances to 'shine'

I suppose you're talking about Fellaini.

So you'd stick Kagawa into midfield duo with Carrick?

Please just give him a chance behind one of Rooney or Van Persie in our next home game. Its not as if they're ripping it up as a strike partnership.

Can we just change our system and give him a change? I mean that dog shit 442 is doing us more harm than good. Let's try a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 with him as part of either the attacking 3 or midfield 3. I'm sure we'd be better.

Do people really think "underperformed in training" (a completely made up excuse by posters who have no idea how he has performed in training) is enough reason for him to have only played 45 minutes in the league.

It's becoming clear Moyes doesn't think much of him as a player and he'll most likely be moved on in January.

I don't think not reaching his level at Dortmund matters anyway, considering his current level is still much better than most of the others. Welbeck is preferred over him basically solely for his workman like approach, which is worrying. He's much better than Young and Giggs.

It feels like the Nani situation.

We were all begging and baying for Nani to be given a chance. Once he was Moyes was like "This kids alright y'know. Where's he come from?" and he's been a fixture in the side since. I'm hoping Moyes will accidentally give Kagawa a game through the middle and then he'll finally see it.

I'm a huge Kagawa fan. Loved him at Dortmund. He didn't really have a place in the team once we bought RVP. He now really has no place in the team with the rise of an 18 year old into the first team.

Time to cut our loses and sell in January.

What do you mean?!

Kagawa and Rooney are players who specialise in playing in the hole.

When they are picked on the left they are unlikely to play as well.

Rooney has been picked on the left plenty in his United career. Now and again effectively, more often than not nowhere near as good as he is in the middle. Kagawa will only be the same. Play him in his best position in the middle and he can be a good player. On the left he may never convince

Well said.

I'm probably in a minority with Kagawa but I don't get the big outrage of him not playing. Any game he has played he's been pretty average really, fair enough he's in and out the team but he's hardly made the most of his chance. I really think his stock has risen by not playing amongst fans. The problem is he tends to play in the position Rooney is finding himself in and I doubt we're going to drop Rooney any time soon in fairness.

We're not playing 442. We're playing 4231.

One can hope, but it's different situation, Nani had Valencia as his competition, while Kagawa has Rooney, who looks like sacred to Moyes so far.

Yeah Rooney's been far forward this season, 3rd most offside player in the league in fact. Definitely looking to get right up top and get the goals Moyes was talking about him getting in the summer.

You must be confused as I don't really see Rooney playing in that hole in front of the 2. He's more beside RVP most of the time.

I suspect one of them chalkboard things would show something different.

It has been said time and time again, he's not a left winger, or even an inside forward. He's a number 10. Why do people find this so hard to understand? Fair enough if he's been given a few games behind the striker and hasn't impressed, but he's been played almost only on the left.
