Real Sociedad vs Manchester United

I can't be the only one who thinks Fellaini hasn't looked good? He's done a lot of fouling and made a balls of a couple of easy passes.

A threat down the right would be good, their left back seems awful.

Fabio must feel terrible if not only does Smalling get chosen as a right back, Buttner makes the bench ahead of him. Unless there's some news I've missed and he's picked up an injury.

Rooney's touch has been a bit shit this half. Fellaini I think looked good. Some nice little touches and flicks

Not really, they were excellent last season, the side playing the best football in Spain in the 2nd half of the season, and they absolutely outplayed Lyon in the CL play-offs this season... but they've had a woeful start in the league after losing their manager and their midfield general Illarramendi, they were lacking confidence up until 2 matchdays ago... recently they've been recapturing some of that form but still nothing like last season.

Let us not get too carried away. I support Lyon and I can tell you that their side was probably the least experimented out of all the top leagues where most players are only 18 and 19. Their average age of 23 has only been put up because of a couple of players like Malbranque or Gomis who are relatively old. I think you are doing a disservice to Lyon to be honest and to be fair, they are holding their own in spite of the lack of experience and the maturity.

Fellainis made a few good tackles in front of the defence and made himself a nuisance in midfield.

Unfortunately though between him and giggs there has been no penetration from midfield, but we look dangerous down the left which is good.

United too cautious. This Sociedad side are average and there for the taking. A few years ago we would have been 2 or 3 up in this game.

Sociedad are really awful, afraid of us or something. Nani on at half-time please with Valencia playing behind him

Terrible game so far really. No creativity at all or movement going forward, everyone is really slow on the ball. Fellaini has been ok, as has pretty much everyone else. Nobody sticking out. Smalling had that nice piece of skill but then gave it away with a poor pass, as expected really. Baffling that Fabio isn't getting a look in but what can you do. We'll probably need to make some personnel changes before we start making some proper chances.

Very flat game, no spark from either side so far, we need to up our tempo in possession and cut out the sloppy passes.

Despite being corrected Yorke still proceeds to call Pogba, Drogba over on the Juve/Madrid half time talk

Edit: He's still doing it

So much possesion but no movement and no real ideas. All too often this season we are creating so little. In the final third there is so little understanding. Our forwards are playing like strangers.

I don't think you understand what that phrase means.

Well that wasn't very exciting but it's to be expected with a CL away game i suppose. Still not quite sure what Fellaini does.

This looks like a fairly typical euro away for the past few years to me. Controlled performance.

Sociedad are also better than many give them credit for

Just saw that
"Drogba at the heart of everything"
"It's Pogba."
"Drogba at it again here"

Stop dibbling grandad, it's not the nineties anymore. This is exactly the way we have played such games for a decade.

There was an article in the guardian today bemoaning the tactics of Spurs and it really could have been written about us. They were making the case for Eriksen with the same arguments made about Kagawa.

Slow, compacting the play, lack of creativity in the centre, not making most of counters, forward feeding off scraps

I'd like to see Nani on for Smalling and Valencia to right back.
