Liverpool

You don't think Rodgers has the potential then to make Liverpool serious contenders in the near future ?

I know this wasn't aimed at me, but I don't know for sure about this. If he does it will be a big achievement, but it's a long way to go. One great half season isn't the same as challenging year in year out for major honors. Liverpool have done similarly in the past and never really made that jump.

I must say, Liverpool have been the biggest surprise of the season so far. Before it started, I didn't even think they were a top four material, but to be in the mix for the title by Christmas, you have to admit, they've done very well.

This is the most exciting league season in years.

I'm guessing you don't support United then

We're being strongly linked with Salah, Montoya, Fernando, MVila, Matic, and Pastore. Obviously all won't happen, but hopefully we grab one of the midfielders along with a winger.

Everton even more so. They are likely to win their next two games and thus will be max 2 points from the top of the table, they could be even first after the first half of the season. That would be astonishing.

Always been a big fan of Pastore. Would love him at United.

Can't see him choosing a move to England though. He has everything he wants in France and he just looks like the type of player who would move to one of the big boys in Italy over the Premier League.

He's been linked to us and Roma.

One thing I can't wait to see, is Skrtel giving away a penalty from a corner. He is absolutely dreadful from corners and fouls his man every single time. It's amazing how he doesn't give away a penalties. I honestly don't know how the referees don't see it.

Definitely. Ed Wood's job is also on the line, so we have to make some great signings in the next couple of windows. We've got a lot of passengers in the squad at the minute, but a decent core group of players. Similar to Liverpool in the last few years, the only difference being that our players are used to winning trophies and know what it takes to perform over a whole season.
I agree with this here. United have had their rough patch and I think Moyes has come through it and with the squad they could easily go 10 - 15 games in the league without defeat or with only a slight slip. Liverpool have yet to have a sustained lull and this worries me as the players have had a few blips in Southampton, Newcastle and Hull but a proper run of a few bad performances strung together and an injury to Suarez could really put pay to any hope of a top 4 finish. We need a lot of luck with injuries in the next few months as any cover for Suarez and Sturridge is think on the ground.

I can sense all rambling idiots slowly crawling out of the bricks.

The deja vu right now is not similar to the mass delusion few years back under Rafa when they were leading the table towards the close of the season, bin dippers were alreay busy in rubber stamping their shirts as the premiership champions, yet it ended in tears.

As for this season, I cannot see Liverpool finishing ahead of City or Chelsea.

A third spot and a CL qualification would make the circus go on for a season.

With Suarez probably going out after the world cup, Liverpool should finish midtable and Rodgers should get the the boot.

IF Liverpool win the title with the current squad...well bloody well done. But I cant see past City tbh.

This is their best chance to be honest, apart from Arsenal, all the teams above Liverpool last season has either changed managers or sold their best player. Liverpool and Arsenal did well to get a good start, but is it enough to fend off City, Chelsea and us? You'll surely be looking at all 3 clubs to kick on in the second half of the season, all the managers should know their best squad by than and I expect squad depth to really prove a difference.

Still looking at Top 4. Anything else is a bonus.

Liverpool are playing well at the moment but that is heavily due to Suraez. Their midfield and defence still can be exploited but credit to Rogers, he's getting the best out of them.

Our midfield has been excellent as of late. It's our set piece defending that is letting us down.

Most of them will disappear for awhile after the games with City and Chelsea.

Like feck we will. There'll still be 19 games left & 57 points to play for. Anyway, I've been posting on here for nearly 8 years now. 8 years amongst you lot when you've won pretty much everything. You honestly think I'm going to 'disappear' should we lose both away games to the 2 favourites for the title ? One of them already having beaten United 4-1, Spurs 6-0, & Arsenal 6-3. No matter what happens in those 2 games, we'll still have a minimum of 36 points at the half-way point. Still well on target for our objective of getting into the top 4.

It's bitter posts like this I really can't stand. For the most part, Liverpool fans on here recently have been very honest and realistic. They generally don't think they'll win the title, but is there anything wrong with them hoping? Why should they not get excited about potentially challenging for the title?

Even if Suarez goes, they're not going to be heading to a mid-table spot anytime soon by the looks of things. Their team is looking rather decent right now and someone buying Suarez would give them a lot of money to improve, provided they wouldn't mess it up like they did when the new owners gave them money to spend and they squandered some of it.

I said that 'most' Liverpool fans will disappear. I hope that I'm wrong though.

BTW, I do not understand why opposition fans are treated like that on here. Please give the man his actual user name. "Retardman" speaks bad for the forum.

The league table doesn't lie. Liverpool are the best of a bad bunch this Christmas. I don't think they've improved massively from last season, shows you how far others have fallen.

City will win the league. At some point I expect them to be a little more consistent away from home.

Oppositions fans here are treated twice as better as any other club football forum I have seen on the internet.

As a matter of fact it lies because Liverpools rivals have easier fixtures in the next two games and the table will look differently after them with Liverpool being 3-4 points off the the top of the table, probably not even in top 4.

I don't know why everyone seems to assume Liverpool are going to lose the next two games. They're not likely to win them, but if Chelsea produce a performance similar to that one against them and Suarez can have a good game against Chelsea's defence then Liverpool have a good chance. I struggle to see them beating City away, but they look more likely than most sides to be able to do it to be fair.

you lot would have wanted the season to end after the first 3 matches.
And you lot were saying "they'll fall away as soon as they meet anyone decent. There for the taking" after just one game (how ironic that it describes United perfectly). And after three games.

And probably still saying it after 17 games.

Top of the league!

This is true and other clubs forums could learn from the CAF! If you go on The Liverpool Way, that place is just ther most disgusting forum I have ever witnessed, and surely not a true reflection of Liverpool fans. The LFC fans on here are good lads and they're respectful, although slightly deluded ;) BTW well done on being top!!

A few stats:

48% of the sides who were top by Christmas finished as champions
86% of the sides who were top by Christmas finished in the top 3
95% of the sides who were top by Christmas finished in the top 4. Only Villa in 1998 failed to finish in the top 4.

:D

The last three times Liverpool have been top at Christmas they have failed to win the title (90-91, 96-97, 08-09).

:(

Did you hear that on the Anfield Wrap?

we had a tough start no doubt...expected really with a new manager. But we have come good. enjoy your position while it lasts....dumpty will come down soon enough.

And that's taking into account the fact that they were missing a finisher for the first few games of the season and could have easily been 4-6 points better off had Lukaku joined them earlier (especially West Brom and Cardiff games).

Looking annoyingly decent this season.

I do think their lack of squad depth will stop them from fighting for the title all the way in.

What I did think up until our results vs Newcastle and Everton was that they weren't getting ahead of us in the top four.

Now I see it as 50/50. We need to improve big time to catch them.

Suarez is that good he'll give them a chance.
