The thing is, we know this guy is a good player he's already proven it in the premier league. Hopefully the injury has taken him out of the lime light, and the money spent on Mata will take pressure off, we can't saya lot of his performance for us must be down to a bit of rabbit in headlights.

Has he been training? I imagine he must have if it's only his wrist

He's had a back problem too, which would explain a lot more about his performances.

Fellani and Fletcher could be a really solid pairing to allow the front 4 to attack.

-----Fletcher-----Fellani

Rooney-------Mata-----Januzaji

Allows us to move Jones back into defense if needed as well

Problem with that is Jones has shown more positional sense than Fellaini or it has looked that way everytime I compare their contribution. Fellaini IMO has to up his game a lot before he starts for us. I get that hes played most of his career as a lump up front and we're now asking him to play as a DMF but its where he wants to play and he has to realise with that you need to track people

Anything on when he is due back yet?

Would be a good boost to start getting everyone fit (Fellaini, Rooney, van Persie) along with the addition of Mata.

At Chelsea, Mata was effective in terms of releasing the rushing runs from their midfielders (Ramires, Lampard, Oscar etc). I think Fellaini will be good at that.

I heard he had started training but wouldn't make the Cardiff game. That said hearing Moyes press conference when Mata joined you'd be forgiving in thinking he had forgotten about him!

Looking forward to his return. I always liked him at Everton, though he wasn't the kind of player that we needed over the summer. If he was carrying an injury then it would explain his, quite frankly, abject performances since his arrival. He is a far better player than he has shown thus far, and I think he can be a good option for us.

He wasn't the player we needed but we have him now. Hopefully he returns injury free and comes from under the radar and adds a bit of physicality and bite to the midfield rather than what he was dishing out in his first few games.

Do we think Fellaini is going to turn out to be a holding midfielder, more of an anchor, or somebody who is going to push forward and join the attack?

I just wonder what Moyes' overall grand plan is for the team when he finally feel's its ready.

With Carrick facing upto a month out this guy could just be vital to our season now, can see him played in behind a 3 with an energetic partner, ideally Fletcher or Jones based on fitness. He has had time enough to settle now and hoping to see the best of him, that player we saw at Everton would go some way to help us at least while Carrick is crocked.

Now he's sorted his injury problems, good luck to him. Hope he can show for us now.

He's not even come close to his ceiling for us so far. When he hits form i've no doubt he'll be very useful for us.

Well, he's had a six month lay-off / post-season training. About time he performed now.

Would be nice to see.

Still have hope for him. He's had one or two good games, and he hasn't had many games in general.

He's had some shockers though, which is the main concern.

Just cant see Fellaini being anything more than squad player come summer. As things stand hes 4th/5th best midfileder.
You don't know that, Jim. We've barely seen enough of him to judge him imo. There were games where he looked like deserving the starting place alongside Carrick (Leverkusen H, Everton H, Sociedad A) but there have been bad ones as well with the worst being away at City.
I'd say 2 months of playing week in week out or close to that and we'll get a clear picture of his ability and strengths/weaknesses.

All eyes are going to be on Mata so I think even if he was to put in a run of good games, people won't notice. It might be useful for him to be under the radar when he does return to the team though. It never really took off originally so now is the time for him to stand up and be counted and play for the badge.

Edit: sorry 2mm you found your way in there by mistake

How come?
Are you sure?
Disagree. But hey, its just a matter of opinion.

He's more use than that set of post's and that is a certainty.

Fellaini has not shown anything near the performance level's he's capable of, OK he is not on my list of all time greats but he is here and he does have assets that can be of use to us, he has had one or two moments of utter shitness and also a few moments of quality. He has shown at Everton that he can get about the pitch and also if balls are being lumped in the air you wouldn't bet against his head finding it at either end of the pitch.

We have no Carrick and Fletcher who could come down ill at any point leaving us with Cleverley a CB and your man here, we wont need any of those to venture forward and create, we can just ask they protect the back four and find a man in front with the ball.

Lacks a good passer from the sitting two at the very least. Carrick and Fellaini behind front four like in 4-2-3-1 worked very well against Bayer at Old Trafford. I'm not sure how much we get from that, though.
