Still can't believe that actually Juan fecking Mata plays for us. Maybe too early to say this, but feck it, he'll be one of our best signings ever and maybe we'll get now the fourth place.

He got a ringing endorsement from Young recently. Ashley fecking Young. What more could he want in life.

To be fair, it's not like we didn't have top players in our squad before we signed juan mata. These "can't believe juan fecking mata plays for us" quotes (and there have been loads) dont quite seem in line with the kind off footballers that have played for Manchester United these past two decades.

Yes, but he was a Chelsea player. And came here at the time when we need these kind of players.

I haven't ever been more excited for a signing since Tevez.

Once he gets his sharpness back hopefuly he can recreate that in a United shirt.

Head and shoulders above most of our players in terms of movement and weight of pass, he's a big building block going forward.

I thought he was one of the few players who played well today. A good assist and he should've had another one had Danny Welbeck not lacked awareness and anticipation.

What a player. Jesus Christ if only some of our other players would think as fast as him. Would love to see him, Nani and Kagawa together.

Thought he was a bit quiet in the 1st half but improved in the 2nd when he seemed to be more central. Need a few more like him and probably a change of tactics.

Fantastic game among a steaming bunch of turds. Especially when he moved in behind the striker for the second half.

We looked a lot better when he came centrally and we played it through him. It wasn't a great display or anything but he showed he can add to the team. Think there was a chance towards then end where Evra could have hooked it back to him a second earlier and he'd have been in a great position. Lost the ball deep a few times though.

I can't wait until he doesn't have to play in our half.

His ball retention in tight situations is sublime. Knows when to release it and looks 3 or 4 steps ahead of the defender, and unfortunately, his team mates.

There was a couple of build ups from the back where he dropped deep to collect the ball, and was involved in every phase of play right up until we got the ball into their penalty area. So good to watch.

The worry is how much time he's going to get centrally when you consider our first choice would generally be Rooney and RVP. Mind you, he's still comfortably better than any of our wingers when he's out wide.

He's a class above the rest at the moment isn't he? You'd think his quality would bring out better from the rest but oh no, they have to stand out and remain shit.

Positive signs regarding Mata, but unfortunately that's the only shining light at the moment.

Just hope he doesn't lose heart and get dragged down to the rest of them's level.

I think if Mata is allowed to tuck in then it's fine but we need one of RVP/Rooney to just drop in and make sure we can build up the play. I mean there were some nice little moments where you'd have one of or both Rooney and Mata quite deep and in a couple of passes they'd have maneuvered us up the pitch and that's what we're lacking, because once you'd done that and you have players like those two facing the opposition goal with the ball, then it just opens things up. But sadly for me Moyes wanted to go for a straight 442 for such a long period of the game and for me it's my biggest concern with him, we jut do not have the players to set up like that atm.

Yeah, again even if we do go for a straight 4-4-2 Mata will still perform better than pretty much all of our team, but you don't want to spend a record transfer fee on a player who's clearly brilliant and then not utilise him to his full potential.

Let down by others.

When/if we have a proper midfield behind him, and may be give him a free role, he will shine even better.

Yeah, but tbh the 442 isn't great for any of them as it makes it harder for us to get the ball up the pitch in good positions and so they all suffer. Would be much better if we set up with one of them deeper as it would allow us to get more out of the other two and the one who does play deeper would still be playing a key role, arguable the most key role. Very frustrating, I mean I know it's early days for mata, but this issue of playing a 442 when we just don't look good in it atm is very frustrating.

I think today he proabably realises just what he's got himself into. Poor sod.

He was excellent in the second half.

Thought his performance against Cardiff was average, but today he showed he can drive us forward. Too bad the rest of the match was a shambles, through no fault of his really.

Not his fault obviously, but like I said when he was signed, he doesn't solve any of the team's problems and it'd have been better to spend the effort on him getting an actual CM tbh. A CM even with the team now could have at least probably ensured 4th, Mata(again no fault of his) will not do that. He'll probably just get dragged down

He played well today. Never shirked nor shied away from the ball.

He's shown more cojones in 180 minutes as a United player than others have shown in the last six months.

He's always playing with his head up and waiting for the rest of the team to make the right runs. They don't come though.
