The problem Fellaini has imo is that it's either him or Carrick in midfield. And Carrick's better at just about everything...

It's a pity he got injured when Carrick did. I wouldn't be averse to sticking Fellaini ahead of Carrick this season, just to see how he does.

Yeah, I find it difficult to believe that Darren is the type to mock other players like that. He just doesn't seem the type, and as pointed out above, he knows more than anybody how hard it is to be under pressure at United.

I can well imagine that Fellaini was very poor when he first came in to train, but that could be down to many reasons. Christ, our lads have trained with far worse over the past decade.

Err....

I think the evidence certainly points to the contrary!

A big bunch of football supporters do actually understand what they see. Fellaini was actually mentioned as a possible signing even when Fergie was manager and I don't remember there even being much enthusiasm for it.

Fellaini was a panic buy because we were so desperate for midfield cover. That is why we paid so much more than we should have after other targets did not arrive in the summer.

Now we have to live with him so why not make the most of it and have him playing in a 3 man midfield alongside Carrick and possibly Rooney.

Because if he's not good enough and we also have to convert Rooney to a new position (which he doesn't really like) in order to get Fellaini in the team then it's just idiotic.

He's starting today. I'm actually expecting him to put in a decent performance and help the team look more solid. Hope I'm not disappointed.

He looked a shadow of the player he was at Everton during his first few appearances.

Hopefully today, what with his injury problems out of the way and having had time to settle, we'll see a different beast entirely.

Actually I think I will make a little bet on him scoring. He will probably score on a corner with his head before he walks off in the second half.

I think if he is given a run with the line-up that you have tonight (Rooney, RVP, Mata, Januzaj, Carrick) he will be able to show his worth.

In before the Fellaini-haters who'll slate his overall performance just because of that bad effort from him, despite the fact he's actually played well?

very good first half. Huge improvement on Cleverley so far. Keeping it simple, but also moving with the ball, trying to pass it forward and quite good at breaking up opponents attacks.

In fairness, if that was Cleverly, it would have been an even worse miss. In fact, it probably would have ended up a cross and a CP throw in. Fellaini has done well otherwise.

He's been making runs into the box, which makes for a welcome change from what our midfielders are usually doing.

Could've had two. Decent half from him.

Looking good especially considering it's his first game is quite some time

He has been tidy in midfield, gotten forward when attacking and put his foot/head in to win the ball

Easily one of our better players today so far

Played well we've looked decent with him and Carrick in there today, encouraging

I thought that was a good half from him, a bad miss granted but he looks more of a force than any of our other midfielders in the middle of the park.

Good to see a midfielder getting into the box. Did well in the lead up to the shot that he missed. That Rooney cross would've went in too if Delaney wasn't using Fellaini as a step ladder!

Impressed with Fellaini today. On this display he at least looks a lot better and more confident than Cleverley, which I was worried was not the case. Carrick's looked more like his old self as well.

Good performance so far. Missed his chance by width of his Afro. Better luck next time.

He ruined the CP set up when he turned his marker at the start of that build up. He has done well so far. Especially considering how long he's been away.

Yep, pretty positive from him today. There is a lot more to come from Fellaini and this is a step in the right direction.

Bad miss though.

Jaysus. Thread title edited.

Good half from him IMO.

Been pretty good today. Should have hit the target but that's not a big deal. I'm more concerned with his defending, work rate and passing, which has been good. The finishing will come with confidence.

Decent isn't good enough. We need to stop accepting mediocrity at this club.
Because we are suddenly going to transform into Bayern in the space of a week after playing mediocre football this whole season. Makes sense. Fellaini has been better than Mata this game. Mediocre Mata?

We should have never bought him in the first place. But that's another story.

Good display so far, Redknapp criticising him at the break, which was inexplicable.
