So we have Bayern

It'll be like the age-old cartoon sketch where the big guy has his palm on the little guys head, who's swinging his arms round trying to hit him.... except here, the big guy is using his finger, and the little guy is asleep.
that just made me picture guardiola fingerbanging moyes...

Looks like the worse possible draw for United especially with the return leg in Munich. However, nobody will expect us to win, all the pressure will be on Bayern, so United should be relaxed and at ease. If the crowd is anything like it was against Olympiakos, it should give the team a lift and if we have a good result against City, confidence should be at a season long high. Win at home, and with the way Bayern has ben playing at home in the Champions League, both City and Arsenal getting a result, it gives us a chance to advance. Not a good chance mind you but it's chance.

Agreed. Not so long ago, even Darren Gibson looked good against them at OT.

We'll be annihilated. Guardiola is the perfect manager and he will show us what a cataclysmic error it was to ignore him during the year he took away from football. Even if he was always going to choose Bayern, ignoring him was unforgivable. We will be humiliated. Moyes will claim we were unlucky, but Guardiola's tactical genius will destroy us.

Moyes is in the Stone Age, while Guardiola's Bayern are splitting the atom.

We have a punchers chance, but its going to be 2 games where we see little of the ball.

What's funny about getting thrashed? I always imagine the supporters that just continually mock the situation we are in will be the first ones to lose interest in United if this all continues.

We've been playing the worst football in the past 3 decades, we're 7th and the manager seem clueless. Many of us are avoiding fans from other clubs whose being waiting for this very moment for years. We've been ridiculed, our manager ended up being supported by feckin Liverpool fans and Monday mornings had become more horrible then ever. FFS If we cant laugh about situation between us then when can we??

In life you learn that there are much worse things than seeing United playing clueless under a clueless manager who doesn't even have an idea of what winning honours means. Hopefully this season will soon be over and things will improve.

Guess what? Our manager is thrilled of the draw. I guess thats due to his record against the big clubs

Dortmund versus Ronaldo seems to be the main story on Bild. I guess the Bayern tie is a forgone conclusion...

Moyes is in the Stone Age, while Guardiola's Bayern are splitting the atom...

...which was achieved in 1917. Well done, Man from the Future.

Based on Dortmund's form this season, so is that one. Madrid are on fire.
I don't disagree, although I am sure people will expect it to be closer than our impending annihilation (apparently). But God knows CR7 is box office..

Lets hope we give them a run for their money. Anything can happen but I doubt it.

I am literally in a heap laughing at this

Just the sort of team I wanted us to face. Might have preferred them in semis but who cares.

These are the nights that provide something special and memorable to remember for the entire life. Only wish was that the 2nd leg was at home.

I won't mind if we go out as long as we play with spirit and desire. That's enough for me to be proud of the team. If we beat the best team on the planet. This is something that I'll never forget.

We need Nani and Welbeck in games like these Their pace can really stretch them.

Bring it on!

Moyes on the draw:

Manchester United manager David Moyes is looking forward to the Champions League quarter-final ties against Bayern Munich.

Although he conceded that the draw is a tough one, the Reds boss is relishing being in the last eight of Europe's premier competition after the remarkable win against Olympiacos in midweek.

"I was thrilled that we were in that draw and we're in the quarter-finals of the Champions League," Moyes stated at Friday's press conference ahead of the weekend trip to West Ham.

"When we were 2-0 down to Olympiacos a week or so ago, I don't think a lot of people were putting us through to the quarter-final draw. So, in a lot of ways, it didn't matter who I drew.

"But I've got to say we've drawn out the favourites and obviously the holders of the cup competition as well, so it's a really tough draw for us but one that I'm looking forward to."

The manager was asked about his thoughts on having the home leg against Bayern first on 1 April.

"I think if you're old fashioned, you'd say you always want to be at home in the second leg," he explained. "I've got to say that would be the preference. But the way the game's going now with counter-attacking football and a different approach by teams away from home, we've got it and that's the way the draw came out. We're at home in the first leg and away in the second leg, we just have to take it."

Moyes also had a message for those who queried his limited experience of top-level European football when he took on the job of replacing Sir Alex Ferguson.
"Nearly everyone asked me at the start of the season about my inexperience in the Champions League," he recalled. "I was amazed that none of you asked me about that the other night there, it must have slipped your minds.

"Look, I said before, I'd watched enough Champions League football and hopefully watched so much that I know a bit about it. But I got a lot of help from people around me, I said I would do that. Thankfully, I've got myself to the quarter-final but the aim now is to get to the semi-final."

Not sure if he watched any Bayern games in the last 2 years if he believes that we'll play on the counter in the away games.

I mean, we can't be any worse than Chelsea and Liverpool were the seasons they won it can we? The downside for us is that the last 8 is probably the strongest we've seen.

You know when you see in movies where one opponent is a masterclass tactical genius, accomplished in his trade, ruthless, favorite in any confrontation and his opponent is this softhearted, fair, gentle yet non polished unprivileged person that against all odds, accomplishes the impossible thorough force of will, luck and a little bit a mystery and hope that comes from us all?

Yeah, that won't happen. We. Are. fecked.

It's a great draw, and the games will be amazing. I have a good feeling about this, and I think we'll progress through the semis somehow.

FFS, it's football, not atomic theory.

Pissing off your future clubs fans isn't the best idea Toni

Edit: he was correcting an earlier post
Jesus, that's a bit cnutish of him. It'll be even more satisfying if we knock them out now.

Bayern didn't look as devastating against Arsenal as they did against Juve and Barca last year, I still expect them to beat us comfortably but I think we can avoid a complete demolition.

The thing to remember here guys is.

Bayern Munich are beatable, it's important the players don't look at the team sheets and be blown away by the names and the stars on the opposition team, yes they are the reigning European Champions, but history also says no club has ever retained the Champions League.

On the night anything can happen, it's 11 human beings on a field, versus another 11 human beings, we all make mistakes, or have a bad night, and Bayern could have that, if you win key battles, individual battles, and take your chances... it's possible.

It might be a long shot, but the United team can do anything, this season they are a shadow of their former selves, it doesn't mean they aren't capable, the midfield of Manchester United is very questionable, but it's a wake up call for the team to step up to the plate, or be replaced during the summer, this next game is the acid-test to our team against the very best, we can truly see who is there for the big games, who performs, or what area we really need to be improved.

You never know, a big shock could be on the cards, in 1999 we beat a Juventus team with some of the very best players in the world, even Zidane at his very best, and we went on to beat Bayern against the odds, it's doable.

I'm weirdly positive, for the first time in ages. I feel we may just do it. Why must I raise my hopes like this?

I'm feeling the same. I think it's called denial.

With bayern you need a very wide back-line, their main threats come from inverted wingers in Robben and Ribéry, Mandzukic is their weak link, you need wingers that double back and help, you also need two DMs that make blocks against players like Kroos and Schweinsteiger.

The main problem is when you break you need support for your strikers, you need pace on the break and that's what United doesn't have, so who do we start? I'd say we start Welbeck on the left mid to be honest.
