Apparently Mata has won more games at Old Trafford in a Chelsea shirt than he has in a United one. We're a laughing stock.

He was a bit cack last night, wasn't he? Still, as I've said before; if one or two players play poorly occasionally then blame the players. If most look rubbish fairly consistently - blame the manager.

Oh my god..is this true?

Hes won 1 with you, Cardiff. I cant remember anymore than 1 Mata won, the 0-1 last season.

We played twice in the league, and once in the fa cup didnt we? you won 3-1 in the AVB years and the FA cup game was 2-2.

He needs a modern manager to get the best out of him. If we won't get one, he'll end up on the Veron, Berbatov and Kagawa list. Quality, the odd good moment, but just not right for United. Unfortunately if we don't find the way to get the best out of players like that we'll be left further behind.

I didn't think he was awful, but he certainly lost the ball a few times and played a few short passes which was uncharacteristic of him. I think maybe the pace of the game last night caught him out a little.

You can see though the lack of off the ball movement, especially in the box is catching him out a little. So many times he looked up and had nobody to pass too.

Players like Mata and Kagawa play well when the others around them are doing well. They're not game changers, they're team players. We lack movement, ideas, shape and sharpness.
Mata was definitely a game changer for Chelsea.

Looking through the comments, there's a lot of justifications for Mata's poor performance yesterday. Yet when say, Cleverley or Fellaini have poor games, it's because they're poor players. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to compare the two, Mata is technically superior to the aforementioned players, however, what I'm trying to say is, when a player has a bad game just admit he had a bad game.

How many more players must be sacrificed before Moyes is sacked?

Mata is better than Kagawa on paper, but the latter played better under Fergie than former currently is performing under Moyes.

It's the same all season long. It's a bit of a new trend too. Kicked off by the Kagawa fans.

Shinji plays badly. Blame all the players around him for being too static, not making the right sort of runs.

Any other attacking players plays badly. He's just shit, isn't he?

To be fair to Mata, he'll need at least 10-20 games before we'll see the best of him. He's only been training with his new team-mates for a couple of months. Can't be expected to feel at home just yet and any creative player needs to spend some time training and playing with his new team mates before he can instinctively start picking out their runs.

We can admit that, but when it's been happening for the best part of 2 seasons now with those types of players, it's obviously not the player just not being good enough, which is the case with some others. Kagawa and Mata were very good/world class in matas case for their prior clubs. Yet at united they seem ineffective, slow on the ball, and basically opposite of what they were usually like. It is everything to do with the style if play clearly, and our style just not encouraging that type of player.

That could be the case for Cleverley and Fellaini too. We all saw how good Cleverely was a couple seasons ago, partnered with Ando when we played quick, one touch football.

As for Fellaini, because there was speculation of him coming to United, I watched a couple games where Martinez played him as the deepest midfielder, mainly next to Osman. From what I saw, he was good. On the ball, he got the ball and moved it quickly. Off the ball, he got stuck in, averaging 4.3 tackles in only 3 appearances.

So maybe it is the tactics. But what I'm trying to say is that it applies to all of our players and not just Mata and Kagawa.

Cleverley has only showed brief moments of excellence. He's never been consistently good over the course of a whole season.

Fellaini had one good season for a decent team. He's nothing like Mata and Kagawa.

Kagawa was one of the best players in the Bundesliga for 2 years straight, and brilliant for his national team as well. Mata has been one of the best players in the PL for 2 years(+), and he was good in Spain as well.

I did say I wasn't comparing Cleverley and Fellaini to Kagawa and Mata, although they play in different positions anyway. My point was that, if some feel tactics are hindering their plying style, surely this would be the case for Fellaini and Cleverley, and the rest of the players for that mata (see what I did there :p).

I think if we go out with better tactics, we should hopefully see all of our players step up a level.

Some players arguably suffer more, though. I don't feel that Cleverley's general level has dropped that much under Moyes, for instance.

That will never happen. How many other teams deliberately drop one of their three best players in every game they play?

So long as the three of them are all on our books the onus is on Moyes to find a way to play them all in the same XI.
Make more sense than playing them all playing every single match in a season. Also means we would have a weaker subs bench. Not much point turning to a weak bench when we're losing is it.

First of many goals to come.

Watching him, Rooney and Kagawa link up today has been a joy to watch, and something I really hope to see happen for the majority of the rest of this season. Can't wait to see him finally get some games in the Champions league next sea... Ohhh.

Kagawa-Rooney-Mata was a delight to watch but the midfield behind them, not so much.

I don't get this "he's been underwhelming" shit coming from people like Owen. Some of those flicks and passes were gorgeous. He never loses the ball.

Good game today. We got to get him playing with Kagawa and Rooney more often. Adnan in place of young and we are looking good

Should only play centrally. Kagawa is better at coming in from wide positions than Mata is. Keep Mata in the middle, and Rooney advanced, and put a more natural wide player on the right, and we'll score 1000 goals next season. One thousand.

he was a big culprit vs city, gave ball away in easy situations, stopped our rhythm a lot. most of the time he's been great for me though. I don't really care if he plays off the right I don't think it makes a difference, but it's nice to have either him or kagawa in the middle rather than rooney
