Bayern München v Manchester United

The back 4 which finished the game at the Nou Camp consisted of;

Ramires, Ivanovic, Bosingwa, Cole

I know other players sat back too but it was hardly a back 4 with defensive prowess.
Names on a paper. As a unit, Chelsea have been quite a solid team defensively. If I had to pick one team that could grind out a 0-0, its Chelsea. Its just something we don't quite have in our locker.

The good thing about this match is that most of the pressure is on bayern, which hopefully leads to some bottling activities.

Bayern still 9/1 on with the bookies to go through. Sounds about right.

Rooney trains.

Fellaini and Rafael are missing training.

Smalling RB I guess. Rio and Vidic at centre. Jones in midfield. Evans on the bench.

Yeah, looks that way. Before the anguish starts, I think it could work. Smalling at RB - defensively speaking - is probably the best we have. In those tricky one on ones with the likes of Ribery, Robben and Gotze, in comparison to other defenders, I would have to bank on Smalling being the one coming out stronger. And the game plan I predict us to go for; direct, counter-attack, exploit the frailties of Dante and Boateng through pace will allow Smalling's weaknesses to be concealed. Jones in midfield would work; we've seen it against Madrid and he did a good job shadowing Ronaldo. Who do we stick him on this time? Kroos or Gotze? I'd say Kroos for the fact he is more of a threat, without Bastian and Thiago, there is no real instigator for them to create- it must all come from Kroos. Feeling a little more confident than usual, but I'm still not banking on much.

Smalling - Rio - Vidic - Evra
Carrick - Jones
Giggs
Valencia Welbeck
Rooney
Personally would rather see Fletcher alongside Carrick and Jones at RB. Giggs could well be replaced by Kagawa who played well when he came on last week. These would have been my preferences anyway so hearing Fellaini didn't train has cheered me up considerably.

If the likes of Rafael, Young and Fellaini are unfit then the team seems to almost pick itself. Valencia will play of course. Might be a choice between Giggs and Cleverley and Kagawa and Januszaj for the last spot.

DDG
Smalling Rio Vidic Evra
Jones Carrick
Valencia Kagawa/Giggs Welbeck
Rooney

de Gea
Jones--Smalling--Vidic--Evra
Carrick--Fletcher--Kagawa/Giggs
Valencia--Rooney--Welbeck

manutd.com says Young is training. A bit surprising given his injury. And Giggs as well.

Keep a narrow defence of Smalling Rio Vidic and Buttner with Jones and Carrick in front of them. Either Fletcher or Kagawa just in front and a top three of Rooney, Welbeck and Valencia.

If we are in need of a goal then slot Valencia into RB and bring on Nani or Januzaj. Fletcher off for Kagawa and go all guns blazing!

You can also bank on Smalling to put his hands on a man, give away a cheap free-kick and see us concede.

Really? Rafael is far more susceptible to that sort of play. I can't say I recall many scenarios in which Smalling has done that.

Rafael would give them away with a poor/cynical tackle as a team is attacking and we are under pressure.

Watch Smalling the next time he plays. Constantly puts his hands into the back off the opposition and will give away a fk when we aren't under pressure.

I just dreamt that we beat them 3-0 at the Allianz. I don't know who scored the first goal, but Tomas Rosicky and Chicharito scored the second and third goals.

I know plenty of Bayern fans as one does when one lives amongst them of course, but today I was chatting for the first time with one who actually believes they are going to lose the tie.

Love it.

SSN have just confirmed Fellaini hasn't trained as he went off against Newcastle feeling dizzy but Rooney has trained and looks fit to start.

Carrick and Giggs/Fletcher in CM? with Welbeck/Valencia on the wings and Kagawa/Rooney up top?

I think playing Januzaj for 20-25 mins will be the key to us going through.

Rejoice!

We're in with a chance.

Hopefully Jones alongside Carrick.

Would you not keep him at LB after his performance there last week?

As people have said, Bayerns CM options aren't as strong as normal but they still have unbelievable wingers in Ribery/Robben. Surely we want to focus on stopping them no?

No, I'd rather Evra returned at LB. And Bayern will start with Lahm, Kroos and Muller/Gotze, that's a brilliant midfield.

You can see by the expression on his face, that his injury still hurts a lot.

Good news for us that Rooney is playing. Shaqiri is set to miss the game for Bayern.

Sorry I meant RB, typo. Would you start Rafael over Jones at RB as he's arguably not 100% fit and if he loses his head against Ribery he'd be fecked.

If Rafael's fit, I'd start him. If he's not, yes , Jones needs to start at RB meaning we'd need to play Fletch alongside Carrick. I'd rather fletch played even if Fellaini is fit for this one tbh.

If Fellaini elbows Neuer hard enough and injures him, they'd have to play their 4th choice keeper.

Even if he was fit he wouldn't have played a minute unless either Robben or Ribery were injured.

Massive loss for Bayern. All we need now is Ashley Young being fit and then we will have this tie in the bag.

Guardiola bet a big beer in today's press conference that Rooney will play tomorrow. 100 per cent...

Seeing as Young won't be available perhaps this is finally the time Kagawa gets his deserved start in the knockout stages?

He probably won't though.

No Fellaini, Rafael or Evans in Man Utd squad flying to Munich. Injury doubts Rooney, Giggs and Evra all travel.

I just dreamt that we beat them 3-0 at the Allianz. I don't know who scored the first goal, but Tomas Rosicky and Chicharito scored the second and third goals.

I also had a dream and it was so vivid. Fellaini scored a goal from a Neuer blunder just before half time, and then we ended up conceding 3 within 10 minutes in the second half :(

Have to say this latest injury news is good news for us, as long as both Rooney and evra make it. Will force moyes into picking a good lineup.
Don't see any other option then(which is how we should start regardless of injuries IMO):

De gea
Jones Ferdinand Vidic evra
Carrick fletcher
Valencia kagawa welbeck
Rooney

Did young travel? Please tell me he didn't.
He did, tweeted a picture. Think he's just going to support them, can't see him playing after tearing his hand ligaments. Mata also travelled but clearly can't play.
