What Should Be The Next Top 50 Countdown?

Good point BO. I'm surprised that such an iconic film is only in at 50, especially after the love that the Star Wars franchise got in the games list.
The Empire Strikes Back will be way higher, probably on top 10. I guess that a lot of people decided to divide their votes and go with only a movie from Star Wars, but nevertheless I think that A New Hope is still too low.

On the game list, actually it was only a Star Wars game there (although it is probably the only one who deserves to be on top 50), so there wasn't such a big Star Wars love.

Also, Shutter Island on the list is a bit surprising. A good movie but very predictable and usually it is the hipsters (who haven't watched the likes of Fight Club, A Beautiful Mind, Memento, Oldboy and other big twist movies) favorite choice.

I'm really disappointed Ragin Bull is so low. Chinatown too, although it didn't make my top 20. But that was down to me forgetting about it when making my list.

That's ridiculous. Anyone who thinks Shutter Island is good/not good due to its twist really hasn't understood the point of the film.

I think Revan thinks that a hipster is just anyone who doesn't like the stuff that he likes.

I probably should have voted for Raging Bull, it's a brilliant film. De Niro is my favourite actor, and Scorsese my favourite director, I think I stopped myself from voting for too many of that combination though.

I'm gonna have to watch Shutter Island again because I thought it was shite.

Mentioned this in the voting thread but I got bored during Shutter Island too. Found the acting annoying and the script predictable.

Can we not do top 50 characters next. We all know Batman's going to win.

As for this list, I think Wall-e has missed the cut. :(

My list, on beforehand.

1. Le Chevalier Noir
2. Some guy from the expanded Star Wars universe.
3. Leo DiCaprio as that troubled soul in that period film.
4. One of those delightfully witty Joss Whedon creations.
5. That angry bald guy off The Shield who breaks doors without a thought of the repairment costs.
6. PRISON BREAK
7. That blonde comic relief woman in that Aaron Sorkin show.
8. David Duchovny's hair in Californication.
9. David Duchovny's black shirt in Californication.
10. The laughing track in The Big Bang Theory.
11. That hysterical British character from that old British sitcom.
12. The bloke in Peep Show with those creepy eyes.
13. Brooding and charismatic actor Timothy Olyphant's cowboy hat in miscellaneous shows.
14. The mother of dragons.
15. A man painted silver who makes robot noises.
16. Claire Danes' BIPOLAR character in that show.
17. Mark Strong as the disfigured figure who spices up the last third of the movie "Sunshine".
18. Gerard Butler in 300 minutes of conveying the Spartan martial ethic to the contemporary viewer.
19. That superhero, I loves superheroes.
20. Nic Cage's jeans jacket in Red Rock West.

The twist is a good one, though I think that is the reason why the film is so overrated. However, as I said there are movies with much better twists. About the quality of the movie, again is a good movie but I would put at-least three Scorcese movies above it.

I think Revan thinks that a hipster is just anyone who doesn't like the stuff that he likes.
That's correct. A weaker definition about the hipsters is 'a person who overrate new things (be it movies, games, TV shows etc) and refuses to try older versions of those which are much better'.

However, disagreeing with me is a stronger definition.

The twist in Shutter Island isn't a good one. It's a one you see coming miles ahead and that no one is surprised about. It's actually barely a twist. However, what I thought a lot of people failed to grasp was that the twist didn't serve the purpose to surprise audiences like in other films, it's actually there for DiCaprio's character. He's basically the only one surprised by it, and it's the achievement of his mad journey.

I strongly doubt "hipsters", whatever they are, are the people who enjoyed this film. I'd actually suggest that given the style of the picture, the baroque feeling it has, it would appeal more to a bit older audiences.

Oh shit! We are getting a list of top 50 films from lists of 20 posted by Redcafe members, when we all really wanted the "pretentious yahoo's" top 50.

Damn, this life! Seriously, Damn it!

You've got that the wrong way round. Hipsters say everything from the past is better.

Snatch- Nice gritty British gangster film which makes me laugh throughout. Only British gangster films make me laugh. Great, plot, excellent how it makes several stories tie together.

Blood Diamond- TIA- This is Africa! Love Djimon Hounsou, excellent actor.

Memento- So original. Excellent ending. Again gritty and keeps you sucked in.

Random order, obviously, except the last one, which is my favourite one.
Ah right. I actually spent a couple of minutes on Google looking who that character 'Le chevalier noir' might be, if it was some obscure character from a Godard film or something, and then I realized who you were referring to. So thanks for making me look like a tit.

Also, I was surprised to see you put no Bergman films in your list, you're not a fan of his work?

That list, or the other list?

I fecking take dibs on writing the spiel for the Empire Strikes Back when that gets called and I will fecking fight any of you stripped to the waist on an empty lot for the privilege.
I don't want to write the Empire spiel, but can we do the thing you propose? I'm free Thursday evening.
