Our Rivals Squad next year - Arsenal

Wenger's point is if he signs another we'll have six centre forwards at some point which is a position he doesn't want to be in. The question is more with the quality/readiness of the players than the quantity.

As of now you guys have 2 centre forwards in Giroud and Sanogo who is not ready to consistently play in the first team on the basis of his performances so far competitively. Unless you guys have a Owen or Anelka kind of teenager lurking in your academy somewhere that I am not aware of.

Sanchez, Walcott and Joel Campbell can play there but they are better off playing as attacking midfielders and aren't exactly suited to spearhead or be the focal point of an attack. Granted there are some games when the opposition plays a high line etc when they would be a great option but to use them consistently as a centre forward is poor planning tbh. Just like how we are regretting letting Cleverley and Fletcher deputise for Carrick who was ruled out for 3 months...

Knowing Arsene, he will probably gamble on the squad with the players we have plus a new CB. I wouldn't put it past him to find a genius way to play strikerless or maybe Sanogo will get 15 goals till new year. :D

Surely another season without a decent title challenge beckons?

They've not brought in the striker they needed and their only decent one is now injured for half the season. They've downgraded their right back, lost their back up at centre back and are still waiting on the defensive midfielder they wanted. Sanchez is a good signing but Chelsea have made 4 signings of that quality and they were already better. Can't see how they finish above City either.

Shame we're in such a state ourselves because 3rd shouldn't be beyond us, Arse and Liverpool are good but not great.

We haven't lost our cover at CB, we have three like did last year. We could do with a fourth.

Yeah didn't he say he will definitely sign a another centre back if Vermaelan is sold. You guys are trying to outdo us when it comes to desperate last minute transfer dealings aren't you. Maybe Ed, Arsene and 'Arry could meet up on deadline and have some fun wheelin and dealin together.

Yeah not sure what's happening, two good CBs have moved in the last couple of days.

Do you guys have any promising centre backs in your reserve/academy though? Maybe Arsene is putting his faith in his young uns. Maybe a loss during the weekend would spur him into action. Just like the 8-2 against us 3 seasons ago and the 3-1 against Villa last season, perhaps the first team players should get the hint.

Ignasi Miquel but he's been around for a while and I'm not sure he's going to make it. Isaac Hayden too but I don't know much about him.

Terrifyingly, Monreal would probably play CB ahead of both of them.

We'll surely sign somebody.

He is the only back-up to the injury prone Gibbs, who is injured right now for 2-3 weeks. Chambers can play at left back if I am not wrong, but he is the only cover for Debuchy at right back. You guys have such a fantastic depth when it comes to the attacking midfield but are rather poor depth wise when it comes to strikers and defenders.

Yeah. A Gnabry for a CB loan for loan exchange would make a lot of sense, if there's a Prem team with 5 passable CB's who don't play 3 at the back.

Bellerin can cover Debuchy. He's been on the bench for our league games.
Oh yeah, forgot about him. He looked promising in the Emirates cup and was pretty good offensively and had good pace.

Oh good I just saw Wenger ruled it out in the presser after the game. He was coy about Falcao though

That would be some coup. Didn't Arsene just say he won't be signing another striker though?

Just saw this on an Arsenal forum

the way manchester united have blown money really makes you appreciate the way Man City and Chelsea did it. At least those two constructed an actual team.

Is this the general viewpoint from our rivals as regards our free spending?

No although your spending has been shit, it doesn't make theirs particularly impressive.

Could this be the first time Arsenal slip out of the top four ? Unless they bring in a striker or can convert Sanchez you can't rule it out.

When you look at this (below) and realise United's squad now cost over €520m with the addition of Di Maria & Blind, and that both United & rival fans believe multiple changes in personnel are still required and that both Carrick and RvP will be at the end of their useful careers within 2 years, then it's difficult not to think United have blown a lot.

Free transfers and players coming up from the reserve/youth are obviously excluded from these lists.

You could say the same for city. They have to replace kompany, Silva, Toure and Aguero. I mentioned that in the main thread regarding the spending comparison. City/Chelsea built the core of the squad few years back, when the market value of players was half as it is now. So, comparing that to our current spending is misleading.

Maybe, but I don't think Kompany (28) and Silva (28) are yet in the same age group .... and poor Aguero is still only 26 ! :D

Probably Sagna (31), Demichelis (33) and Zabalaeta (29) plus as you said Toure (31) would have been better examples ;)

On Talksport they've just said Wenger is in Rome at a charity football match held by the Vatican today . That'll please the fans.

They'll struggle imo if they don't sign a striker. They've very little goals in that team without Giroud, Sanchez and Ramsey aside. Sanchez can't be effective up top on his own and there's no point even talking about Sanogo.

They're fans must be pissed off, we've replaced Van Persie before they did.
