What Now For Moyes?

What did you expect him to say really? He was sacked and his reputation tarnished.

I really wish his all the best. Would really love it, really love it if he does well there. Maybe top 4 behind real, barca and atletico at the very best.

If that happens, he'll go smug and tell us how sacking him is wrong and all other shits.

The man's hate us for thinking we mistreated him.

So no, maybe if he failed abroad with his dinosaur tactics he sees why we fecking sack him

Not even sure why he's going to a bottom team in Spain, surely if he bides his time he'd get a more financially stable club in the premier league or Germany who might look for a manager that emphasizes on a structure and organization. If Sociedad go down, the second division of Spain is lacking and in Spain its a slippery slope once you lose the finances.

Ballsy move taking over a 19th place team in a new league. I have bad feeling for sociedad.

Ballsy? There's nothing ballsy about taking over a team in an already terrible position. Not when they have their players to do better. It's a no lose situation, if he can't improve them, well they were already broken, it's not his fault. If he gets them playing to their capabilities he could get a lower midtable position which would be seen as an achievement.

No one actually believes that though, it's just an excuse thrown to defend their favourite. If he gets them relegated, he will be deemed a failure. The league is only 10 match old and moyes will have enough time to improve if he actually is a good manager. He probably has a better chance of making sociedad improve which will make this move less ballsy than I think though.

I didn't realise they were only four points off 13th place. I thought it was more dire than that. He should be fine then, especially if their squad has some decent players there already.

Well, so much for wanting a club with CL ambitions.

I'm sure he did want one. Not sure if it would have been reciprocated though.

Didn't he claim to have a load of offers but had been waiting for a UCL side? If Sociedad are the pick of the bunch, I'd love to see the rest of them.

Were the Sociedad owners drunk when they played Moyes twice last season? The writing is on the wall, hope they go down.

I couldn't care less how he does, and I don't know why any Manchester United fan would. And that's not even because of his tenure, it's because - well, again, why would you? He's a sunk cost, there's no emotional linkage between him and United.

Is everyone one trying to prove how nice they are?

This, couldn't give a flying feck, as long as he's not stinking the place out over here spouting his bilge.

Has anyone considered that the reason he has taken the job and not waited for a PL side or potential CL side is that no one else will have him?

That about sums it up I think.

Sociedad are gonna be Sodisappointed.

I would wish any British or irish manager well if they are trying their hand in different countries. It is something I would like to see far more of them do

I always liked david Moyes before his spell with utd so either way I would have an interest in how does in Spain

Round and Lumsden will be stocking up on sunscreen as we speak.

If I were them I wouldn't bother stocking up too much, they will be back in the UK before end of February.

We didn't get the best of results in either game, but iirc, we pretty much outplayed them home and away.

All the best to him. I think he dodged a bullet by not getting the Galatasaray job. Imagine if it was he who'd guided them to, well, nowhere in the Champions League. They shouldn't even really be in the competition, but, regardless, he'd never hear the end of it.

Also, I guess you could say that 2014/15 was the season that Real Sociedad beat Real Madrid 4-2 and Moyes was in charge. Well in, David.

Just to give a bit of context to Real Sociedad. They have the 8th highest wage bill in La Liga and are financially stable. They have a "don't sell" policy and most of their young players are on high release clause contracts, so when they sell (like Illarra and Griezmann) they don't sell cheap. Inigo Martinez has a €30m release clause for example.

To take a step up, they need regular European football and the money it brings - a bit of a chicken and egg problem there really.

They have a large, and very good youth system, which competes pretty much directly with Athletic for the best young talent, so it's very important to them that it works, and is seen to work by young players in the region.

If Moyes does go there (according to the press there still wasn't a financial deal in place last night) then he'll first be judged (fast and unforgivingly!) by stopping the tumble towards relegation, but the decisive medium term test will be whether or not he can bring the young players through.

They'll be Real Sosobad by the time he's finished with them.

I'm by no means an expert on it but Spanish football doesn't really seem like it'd be the best fit for him... Good luck to him though, I hope he does well.

Luis Enrique, Carlo Ancelotti, Unai Emery y amigos be afraid, be very afraid.

Wish him all the luck. And hope he rams it down the throat of the armchair experts.

Wonder how the Real Sociedad fans are taking this news. Are they looking forward to his appointment or do they think they can do better?

Do they also expect a certain type of football with youth or Basque players etc?

Hope Moyes does well tbh. He just seems like a hardworking honest guy who was desperately out of his depth here.

Part of me wants him to screw up for his disastrous reign at United and all those baffling quotes but I think he was trying his best. Too bad it wasn't enough. Just hope he moves on from the United sacking and stops taking about it to the press now that he has a club to run.

I kind of agree with this. Moyes was an okayish manager from my perspective, though the wrong one for Man Utd (which I thought from the very first day).
And generally I would like to see some british managers in Europe. McClaren was a terrible failure in Wolfsburg, but he did very well with Twente Enschede.

They've got a big youth academy, and they're very proud and possessive about the homegrown (mostly Basque) players.

In terms of who the fans wanted, according to the opinion polls.
50% Pepe Mel
24% Thomas Tuchel
16% David Moyes
7% Alejandro Sabella
The rest went with "others"

Since the first two managers were not available they got their first choice manager!

Good. Now stop talking about United.

Cheers. At least some of them wanted him.

What do you figure will be the basic objective being set for him? A top half finish or Europa league? They also had a horrendous start to last season before ultimately getting better didn't they. They don't have any CL commitments this season but they've lost Griezmann though.

I hope he does well there. Ballsy move taking over a side in relegated places but I think he'll do well there. His work at Everton shouldn't be underestimated.
