It feels awful knowing he's going. Up till now I refused to believe it, out of sheer stubbornness of belief that he would stay.
Hate admitting it, but he's gone.
:(

Well gone and he has had no thought about united in doing it!

If we can't get Cech I'm with you.
Cech would be my first option too if we stick to Valdes than I have hopes for Johnstone he could have a chance to breakthrough, as we all know Valdes makes mistakes, he will not have it easy if he starts as no1 next season..

De Gea had the chance a long time ago to put his cards on the table. From a fan POV if he goes now he will never be respected. There was a a window, and the window is closed.

I don't want Valdes as our #1 either. It's not that he's a bad keeper at all, he is in fact quite good. The issue is playing in goal in England is alot different than it is in Spain. It took De Gea at least 2 seasons to get used to the physicality and if we're going to go the route of replacing De Gea with an experienced player, I'd rather we sign someone who can come in and be immediately successful like Cech would. It makes no sense to be patient and allow growing pains for someone who is 33 years old.

I’m kind of in two minds about Valdes: he’s hardly a bad keeper, and wouldn’t be the worst replacement to De Gea, but he’d definitely be a downgrade and I’d feel a lot more confident if we could get someone like Cech in.

I’m not so sure that the different in leagues would be too big a factor, though. The physicality is obviously different, but I think that De Gea’s problem in that field was that he was still quite inexperienced in general, and had a lot more to learn about playing football in general than Valdes would. Players like Cech and Reina have been able to adapt to the PL when they first came without too many problems.

United officials believe that De Gea has been genuinely torn between the lure of returning to Madrid, being closer to his family and girlfriend and playing for Real and remaining at the club that stood by him during a difficult transition to English football and where he is idolised by supporters.

Family considerations aside, though, De Gea is thought to harbour some reservations about the quality of United’s squad and their ability to compete for the biggest trophies over the next couple of years, and as more time passes the club are becoming increasingly concerned that the goalkeeper will depart.

From James Ducker in the Times today. Andy Mitten was reporting some similar about DDG, saying De Gea had some doubts about us competing.

If that's the case, then you cannot blame him in that regard. I mean, the shovel of shit he has had to deal with in front of him for 4 seasons has been nothing short of atrocious. If van Gaal can sort that as well as get some true winners up front, then that can surely show him.

It's been obvious he's gone for ages now.

4 seasons? We won the league and lost a league title on goal difference in two of those seasons.

Understand United have lost the battle to keep De Gea move to Real all but done

He's gone. Should have made it much clearer if he was going or not.
Damn. I hate Real Madrid.

No big surprise. Hopefully it's done quickly and we can get someone in sharpish, or at least announce that Valdes will be number one. No point in letting it drag out for weeks, it's been going on long enough.

He must look at McNair, Blackett, Evans, Jones, Rojo and Smalling and think how the hell have Manchester United ended up with that load of rubbish? It's so far away from good enough it's unreal.

The girlfriend is why he's off though. Just hope Cech is brought in. We can't have a GK bedding into this league.

It's amazing the number of reasons people come up with to defend De Gea. He wants to go home now, but he had no issues leaving his home when we bought him four seasons ago. We now have a couple of poor seasons and he wants to leave at the first opportunity and people defend that as well. Feck him is all I have to say.

I don't wish him well. Hope his career gets destroyed and he will end up a reserve keeper at some div 1 club in Spain within 5 years.

I really hate Madrid now. I used to dislike them after Ronaldo, but the past few weeks have proved to me they're an awful bunch of cnuts.

I'm beginning to feel the same tbh. If he doesn't want to play for us anymore due to having reservations about our squad, then see ya laters De Gea and enjoy signing for that circus of a club.

Strangely enough, him going for £30m makes him our 2nd highest transfer sale of all time behind Ronaldo and ahead of Beckham with £25m.

That makes 5 of our top 10 highest transfer sales come from Madrid, god I wish they'd feck off

:(

I hope he loses almost all his twitter followers he got because of us, that's all I care about

Well, not really. I will keep believing he is staying until I see us confirm his departure on Twitter!

Been inevitable for a while, but it’s a real gutter if true.

Feck sake :(

The rumoured £30m is a better price than I expected to be honest.

I think we should be getting at least £40m to be honest... I know it's his last year, but feck it... we should be playing hardball.

Goodluck winning anything in Spain with Barcelona playing the way they do and CR7 with about 1-2 years left at the top.
It might make sense for him personally but generally I'd call it a bad career move

No. That is what you think.

While I’m sure it’s not De Gea’s main reason for leaving, the fact that he’s often had to compensate for a fairly poor defence this season will hardly have enticed him to stay.
