American Cops Doing What They Do Best

Sickening to watch him treat that girl like that. On a lighter note, was he attempting a commando roll at the start or did he fall over that tree root?

I'm hoping it's the latter. How sad do you have to be to attempt commando tactics when taking down dangerous teenagers at a pool party in the wild suburbs?

Exactly my thoughts on first viewing, but after seeing the clip I'm not so sure now!

Jesus Christ, that was hard to watch. Are cops really that jumpy with absolutely everyone that if their hands happen to be in their pockets or whatever it's reason enough to assume they are reaching for a gun? And why the feck do they insist on handcuffing them after they have been shot and are clearly going to die? Even after the guy was dead he still left them on and just shakes him from time to time saying hang in there.

These videos are genuinely hard to watch. Fair enough trying to justify cops' behaviour in a dangerous situation where the suspect reaches for something or you cant see what they're holding and you have a split second to react.
But these are teenagers in a suburban neighbourhood at a pool party. Where's the threat?

That barrel role was hilarious though

It was amazing. There's a really quiet "what the f*ck?!" in the background straight afterwards which makes it. Fat bastard dropped his torch too, which the kids are giving to the other (sensible) cop immediately afterwards.

To be fair, that whole video is all about one bad apple. The other cops seem to be working to keep him under control much more than any of the kids. What a dickhead, though. Napolean complex in action.

Got this from the Dallas Morning News comments although other comments suggest that it is bullshit:

The situation was NOT what is being reported…

A DJ setup in a public space next to the private pool in our neighborhood on Friday and played loud explicit (F-bomb) music for multiple hours (it is unclear if he was invited by a resident as no one has claimed responsibility). The teenagers (both black and white) were being brought into our neighborhood by the carload because the DJ was tweeting out invites to a “pool party” for $15 (obviously unauthorized by our neighborhood). The teens began fighting with each other and pushing their way into our private pool. Some were jumping our fence. The security guard was accosted when he tried to stop the beginnings of this mob scene. Some residents who live around the park/pool area tried to come out and settle things down. The teens started yelling racial slurs at our neighbors and started assaulting people and property (throwing bottles at cars and attacking a mother at the pool with 3 young children). The first officer on the scene was by himself. At that time, the party had grown to a large, aggressive crowd. As the officer arrived, many teens started running through our neighborhood. Many of the teens were being very aggressive and yelling at the officers as more arrived.

This was a very dangerous situation for the officers AND the teens/residents not involved. The news media has refused to hear the neighborhood’s side of this story. The video being distributed is only a very small segment of what happened. This information being distributed by the media and others is extremely distorted and in some cases outright lies.

PLEASE HELP US STOP THE BROADCASTING OF THIS IGNORANCE. The media is trying to make it look like our neighborhood is a white’s only, racist area. Anyone who has spent even a few minutes in our area knows this is an outright LIE.

The unfortunate result is that our neighbors are now being threatened. We have also had cars and property in and around the park area vandalized this weekend. Unfortunately, the press and social media are trying to enflame the situation.

I am asking for your help for my family and my neighbor’s safety…PLEASE, PLEASE do not rebroadcast any of these lies.

I'd wager that there is some truth to the above comment. Pool parties can get rowdy quickly with, um, belligerent music and a good number of teenagers. The police were well within their rights to disband the party if it was conducted on private property without permission and violating noise regulations.

That doesn't excuse the officer's behavior at all though.

None of that excuses the behaviour in the video - we don't see the kids doing anything that could possibly make the cop's actions a justifiable reaction. The way he pulls out a gun when some of the boys run up to him to protect their friend is especially terrifying.

I feel bad for the other cops. You see one just talking reasonably and politely with some of the kids, then Rambo comes over yelling "Get on the ground!"

Later they have to pretty much restrain him when he pulls a gun on some kids

Did he really have to treat the young lady like that.. The way he manhandled her is just not right. If anyone were to treat my daughter like that... I would kill him!

That cop was on some power trip, how the hell does someone in such a position of authority act like such a bellend, no way that situation warranted him to draw his weapon.

But he did give us that tactical roll, its majestic:

Shocking. The first officer was excessive enough, then the prick with the gloves waded in and appeared to try to hit the guy under arrest from every angle possible. I suppose the gloves were put on in advance in case he got any blood on his hands.

You'd make a fine cop over there.

I make no apology for what I said, I could not even watch the video in its entirety. That guy's behaviour was obscene!

How would you respond to seeing someone manhandle your mother like that?

Sorry, man, I didn't even watch the video in the first place. I just can't get my head around wanting to kill.

Take a look at the video! and imagine it's your mothe or sister who is being roughed up unnecessarily in that manner and tell me what your reaction is likely to be?

It's insane that a grown man would treat a child like that for such a non-serious offence...if there even was an offence. It's hard to empathize with the rage and humiliation that black people feel because of their treatment by cops in this country, but that video should help.

It also does away with the recurrent defence that cops are only rough with suspects because they can never be certain that they won't pull out a concealed weapon. She's wearing a bikini ffs.

They were beating the shit out of him even though five cops were there to subdue him. Is it standard practice to keep beating a restrained suspect?

If someone had a firearm or knife and wouldn't let go I'd inflict as much pain as possible until I knew where the weapon was.

Just saying.

I'd have thought 5 big blokes could just cuff him and then find it themselves without beating him around his head with a baton.

It was the guy with the gloves that kept walking round the guy being arrested and hitting him whenever a gap appeared between the officers who were trying to hold him on the floor. Arsehole of the highest order, and a feckin coward too. Please keep an eye out for updates on this, hopefully the two beating officers get their comeuppance.

I'm playing devils advocate.

For me though if your mauling with someone who had a lethal weapon anything goes until that weapon is safely and knowingly away from you or anyone else.

The cop at the pool party is an embarrassment to police and to his country. Whatever was happening there, there was absolutely no need to be that way with the young girl and then to pull a gun out is just insane. They just have no idea how to deal with a situation and bring it to an end as peacefully as possible rather than escalating a situation.

What you actually didn't see from that angle is that there were two deadly scorpions on the ground near him and these helpful agents were just trying to kill them before they could sting the poor man.

He's lucky they were around.

Just another look at the flip side so people can see how quickly things go down.

Note the guy pulling the gun from his waistband and walking behind to execute an officer, and how many times someone is shot from a vehicle. Part of why officers are so "jumpy" or quick to react when someone reaches for a waistband or pocket.

Some graphic content in case anyone needs a warning.

and no, this isn't to excuse any officers who have gotten away with excessive force needlessly, before someone throws that out.

I didn't see any officers in that video administering a beating like the ones in that video I posted above.

I know, it just emphasizes the point that the beating was completely uncalled for. Our resident PC thinks it was.

I think a lot of the stories have more back story than is shown in some videos and stories in the media. I also think a lot of stories haven't come to light or received the attention they deserve.

I've always given a fellow officer the benefit of the doubt until shown otherwise. I've also been disappointed and disgusted at some officers and how they handle situations.

If five big officers can't subdue one suspect without beating him with batons then they shouldn't be cops. Aren't you trained in takedowns and restraint?

Everything is trained in "perfect" circumstances, with subjects who aren't necessarily actively resisting.

Once someone isn't being cooperative, or is actively trying to avoid being apprehended. ..then it usually breaks down into something a lot more hands on, and a lot less "pretty" to look at.

When it gets to that stage, I'm not concerned with trying to gain control of someone nicely...they're resisting, and they'll be put under control.

That isn't to say any force is justified. ..and obviously some of these videos show that.

I find a large gray area is when people think they can try to resist because they don't feel like they should be detained, and the officer does. Again, not that the officer is always right in some of those cases.

Watch the video again and see the first cop doing the beating has an opportunity to stop when his partner finally steps in to try and restrain the suspect but he doesn't, he just keeps beating him. His partner stands there for several blows too rather than jump straight in and restrain. Those two aren't looking to cuff him, they are looking to beat him a bit first.
