Oh for sure he's probably angry with his agent and RM, but he should also be angry with himself for taking a stupid decision. He's not a child, everybody knows that you cannot trust the RM hierarchy to do right by a player. Why take chances then? If you're negotiating with them, you should always ensure you're in a strong position. Should have ensured he signed an extension with us before engaging with Madrid in any kind of transfer talk. But (1) his agent Mendes probably thought 'I'm so powerful and United are pussies so no way will they make any trouble if De Gea wants to go" and (2) De Gea being the coward he is, fell for Madrid probably slyly suggesting to him that they wouldn't go for him if he signed an extension.
Bad move all around from De Gea and his camp underestimating Big Wooders![]()
He could have done a Delph, threaten he will walk out for free, unless he can have a clause allowing a certain fee exit.
We could have set that at £30m which would have been fair, he'd have chalked up huge wages, Madrid would have had to find the money, and it would have been more satisfactory all round.
Clearly Madrid and Mendez have made sure he didn't even sign a new deal, presuming they'd run roughshod over us like they do everyone.
Arrogantly, they've let Casillas go already, when it's far from certain the De Gea move will happen. Hopefully they pay for that arrogance.
