I'm annoyed that is has gotten to this stage. It's one thing playing hardball with Real but where are we left now? We could've got in a top replacement rather than Romero and taken a few mill less than what we wanted. Whereas now we may end up keeping him but what's the point if he doesn't want to be here as he may not perform as well?

Yeah he's been terribly unprofessional in the way he's treated United and the fans, all because real Madrid have his arse in their pocket.
We've supported him, and the club has guided him to where he's one of the best keepers in the world, and he wants to shit on us all by being a yes man to Perez.

I reckon LVG wants him gone now but Woodward is worried that he'll look like a prat after briefing all summer.

Part of me is thinking a smear campaign is going on here. If DDG really did refuse to play, then what is stopping him handing in a transfer request?

Is LVG trying to make him look like a cnut so we're not as arsed if he leaves? We need De Gea's side of it but that never ends well and he's kept quiet all summer so doubt he'll start talking now. If he does go maybe we'll hear something then.

Its ok Dave,as long we have some here full of understanding for you, hell some might be even on your side, you will be ok,poor honey boo boo. Think fans did not deserved that he (while United player) makes duo with that circus of club and play a "game" against us.

So what,he does not want to play for us,ok,we refuse to sell, then he changes a tune after 1st sept. because its in his/Real interest to do so? Hell no,sadly i am not in charge but i would like to see him as number 2/3 till end of his contract (i know! Its stupid not to use him if his focus is back 100% even if he is doing it for his own gain).

well this is embarassing. Woody/Van Gaal/De Gea are all saying contradictory things to one another. Deary me. Im out until tomorrow.

Coming round to the idea of getting rid now we've strengthened the squad. If his heads all over the place he could end up playing like a clown anyway and then we've lost £20m for nothing.

We back down now and flog him for a fee of £20 million and we'll be a laughing stock, and rightly so.

Buy a replacement, sit De Gea on the bench all season before the Euros.

If this is the situation, I still don't understand why we haven't bought Lloris or some other keeper.

Imagine de Gea and van Gaal's relationship is pretty bad now either way, he's a hardy bastard at times, Louis.

Don't think there's anything contradictory there at all people are just being hysterical.

They said it was a joint decision previously, they obviously discussed it and agreed it best he didn't play. Nothing in any of the comments has suggested he 'refused' to play

We've got five keepers on the books as it is. I imagine we won't be buying any more until at least one or two of them leave.

Reminds me of Van Gaal's; "Valdes would not play in the reserve," comment. Yet Valdes showed that Van Gaal was wrong. It is hard to believe who is saying the truth in this case.
Valdes only showed Van Gaal that he played in some reserve games. There may have been others he declined to play in. I doubt LVG would discard Valdes so easily otherwise.

Who knows what to believe here though. I'm not fond of the idea of Romero being #1 all season though...

LvG has handled this very badly I think. Never should've went public about De Gea's apparent refusal to play. This is the sort of thing that'll divide your dressing room. o wonder he has a record of getting sacked.

Why would we ask him if he wants to play when we've said he won't be considered until the close of the market? Lots of bs and it's not worth anyones time.

DDG can put in a transfer request if he wants and go to RM for the fee we are after. If those requirements are not met he can sit on the bench for the season.

I reckon he got asked a loaded question like, "can you 100% guarantee you're fully focused," and came back with a, "well yes but." LvG has decided to throw him to the wolves. He's not the first manager to do it. He won't be the last. It's very much the kind of briefing, against their own players, regularly given by Madrid and Barca.

This was probably Mendes and Madrids last move to unsettle United and change fan opinion of De Gea.

United have no other option then to sell him if he's out right refusing to play

What the hell to believe?

Mud-slinging between LVG and Mendes' mouthpiece in the press.

LVG really should not bother commenting any further on this - just bench him - and let's get on with the season - even with a dodgy Romero. Hope the lads know they need to concentrate on winning tomorrow and not get distracted by DDG as he gives not one feck about disrupting them or the club.

The article says his standards have dropped in training. Whether he wants to play or not it doesn't sound like he should do.
If that's the case he shouldn't be asked if he wants to play, he should just be dropped.
