I think it will go through. We're talking about Real Madrid here. The most corrupt club in the world.

Think this will go through. Navas presumably won't...

Surely the Spanish FA will allow dispensation to be granted to get the paperwork sorted. We had a 30min extension (I seem to recall) when we signed Berbatov because of paperwork problems. If a broken fax machine can halt football, we're all in trouble.

Ballbag said there's never been an extension of time granted in LA LIGA. Then again this is a pissed Real Madrid we're talking about, they'll send a few dodgy euros in a few directions no doubt.

 That's not the fax machine, Woody!!

Yeah, these tweets suggesting it may go through. The past hour has still been funny though.

It's a moral victory in any case. Those £29m is pocket money for us anyway with the Adidas deal.

How is it a moral victory?

Real Madrid made a very, very good offer for a goalkeeper in the last year of his contract.

Only catching up on the days news now after only seeing headlines all day in work. This is a fairly mental and very unexpected twist! Fully expect this story to have legs yet though.

What's to stop DDG buying out his contract and signing for RM on a free? Or does Spain not allow registering players at all?

It'll go through, but in the meantime, its very funny

Why should it? rules are there for a reason. Else where do you draw the line?

Likewise, it depends if Woodward did this intentionally, ie: he does not want to sell.

But thinking about it, having accepted that we would have to lose him, and come to terms with that, intentionally wrecking this deal makes no sense. Why would Woodward do that? He could simply refused to sell at the beginning of today.

This is fecking amazing. What a day :lol:

Is it like when you bid for something on ebay, but miss the end of the auction by 5 seconds?

Yup, having second doubts now. Probably (definitely) is better off for the club if it does go through, I had my fun though.

a. If the deal is off because the paperwork was ONE minute late... that's the stupidest thing I've ever heard... you can't get an extension for ONE minute... that's asinine.

b. if the problem was with Navas' contract, why did Real not wait until the next day for that part of the deal? If I'm not mistaken they can still SELL the next day, just not BUY.

Hmmmmm....

Bah, getting the impression as well it will go through, oh well. :(
I'm fairly sure that'd be the best result to be fair, he'll be in one hell of a sulk if he's "stuck" here for another season when it's clear he wants to leave. I think this'll get pushed through eventually.

Dave became irrelevant the moment he wanted to leave. He stopped being our player the second he decided he wanted to lower himself to join what people in Spain call a football club. A football club that booed Ronaldo for not scoring for 3 games. A football club that treats a club legend like Casillas the way you did.

I bet Sky are so pissed off that this isn't happening tomorrow night, where the only transfer saga might be Jon Walters from Stoke to Norwich.

You say that as though Navas and De Gea will be happy with the way Madrid handled this. Both feeling quite unwanted right now.

Navas wasn't even entirely sure that he wanted to come here by the looks of it. He won't lose much sleep over staying at Madrid even if he knows he will be relegated behind De Gea next season, likely.

We don't win in any way here.

Who exactly were we sending the paperwork back 'a minute late' to? Real Madrid? What paperwork would this be? If it was the player's registration or some sort of confirmation, then Madrid would presumably have to send that on the the Spanish FA, which means they'd be well over the deadline anyway.

Why should it? rules are there for a reason. Else where do you draw the line?

Well in England, there are often extensions given if the deal is pretty much done. Balague says it's not the done thing in Spain, but it would hardly be surprising if this goes through.
