Cristiano Ronaldo - Performances (wums will be thread banned)

The days of Ronaldo being the 2nd BPITW are over.. as are the days where he could entertain the masses (that probably ended in 2008 tbh.. but he could still beat players and be Ronaldo 2.0 until perhaps WC 2014).

He will never be the same player again - that is a fact but why does everyone see that as a stick to beat him up with... he's realised his current limitations and he is doing what he can to stay relevant. To be fair to him, he's still racking up a fair number of goals.

Do I think he's getting past that point where he needs to leave Madrid because he may be a hindrance rather than an asset - possibly.. but I think he still deserves some credit for getting goals despite his physical powers waning, he is still being professional and doing the right things on the pitch unlike Rooney.

His goal against Sociedad was quality, deserves more credit for it.. not the sort of goal he usually scores, so it was nice to see,

FFS he just scored 2 goals, with 1 being a great strike, the kind of goal any player would be proud of, and he was definitely one of better if not the best player on the pitch too. Yet I read 1 full page of complain on his 'poor' performance and 'poor' season again. Are people that much obsessed on him?
It's become the nature of these discussions - it's like some weird game of one-upmanship. Every miss/goal is a reason to perpetuate a running argument.

Not really ronaldo is the tip of madrid's attack why would he be involved in any real defensive discussion? But attacking wise he has been the main contributer to madrid being the top scorers every season. While defensively they always conceded the most out of their title rivals. Who do we blame that on? Well certainly not Ronaldo, if they defended as well as they attacked they'ed of won the league every year, thats not opinion thats statistical facts. They conceded 20 more goals last season than barca ffs. If they managed to only concede 5 less goals they win. You don't blame Ronaldo for that.

In fact if Real Madrid had conceded the same amount of goals as they did the year they actually won La liga they would of won it every year Ronaldo has been at the club. Thats how big a difference their defense makes.

They score so many goals, because they usually use an unbalanced lineup. Separating defense from offense makes no sense, unless you think that their defenders are just idiots. If they´d play a more balanced lineup to stabilize their defense, they score less goals.

He suffers from Benitez appointment. Still, he'll probably get 50 goals again and may even break his own record in the CL. Benitez is good at reaching finals in cup compets.

A forward player and whose main task in team seems to be scoring, is not involved in each and everything shocker. As I said, people who think they 'understand' football needs to really 'understand' it.

That volley was egg on the face stuff, foot in your mouth before the event is finalised.

When did Messi "voluntarily" take a few months out ? Messi couldn't physically play with his knee injury that has just recently happened; if it was a twang but allowed him to play on, of course he would have continued playing, and not taken a few months out voluntarily.
in 13/14 he was 59 days and I remember reading somewhere they don't wanted to rush him like they did in the past.

The season they won the league they conceded a much lower amount of goals but scored the same amount. Why is that?

Real Madrid creates a shitload of chances in an average match, of course Ronaldo with his talent and mental strength will at least score one of them in a shit match. That doesn't prove to me that he had a good match.

How much of Real have you watched this season?

I don't understand these posts at all. Limitations? 2nd BPITW over?

First of all, he entertains plenty of people. Dribbling past opponents and pacing down the wings is not the only form of entertainment in football. When the ball is at Ronaldo's feet I get a rush of excitement and feel something exciting happening.

He will never be the same player again. Yes. He's evolving into a better player every year as far as I'm concerned. Find me another goal scorer like him in the world will you. All the "but he just scores goals and doesn't do much on the pitch" talk is also kind of odd. "Just a goal scorer" is not a just.

Will you care to explain what these "limitations" are that he has "realized" and has forced him to do what he can to stay "relevant"?

And just as a side note, if anything Madrid has hindered Ronaldo in winning trophies. For quite a few years they had a crap squad which he had to carry.

When did Madrid have a crap squad?

IT doesn't matter what squad they had anyway. The other side has/had Messi.

Suarez has scored more than any other player in 2015 if you exclude pens.

Aye, he certainly carried that crap squad in the final v Atletico Madrid, didn't he?

Imagine if we had a player who scored 57 goals in a season, in fact imagine of we had a player who scored 25 goals this season....

Great goalscorer alright but there is nothing enjoyable about watching him play anymore. Benzema, James, Modric and even bloody Bale are more interesting on the ball. Goals are amazingly important but sometimes you wanna be entertained differently (great control, pass, dribble etc etc).

but it doesn't matter because they were just goals.:)

The best at putting them away with his head that I have ever seen. Anyone that comes close to him in this regard? He really has great technique with his noggin.

Why are Madrid's players actually aiming their crosses towards their own players?
I thought that wasn't allowed.
We never do it.

Ronaldo's unintentional biggest legacy to football will be establishing Messi firmly as one of the 3 greatest players ever, if not the greatest.

If he hadn't been around in La Liga, there'd have been some chump on here talking about how La Liga is a shit league and Messi couldn't hack it at Stoke on a Wednesday night.

Ronaldo's been turning up week in week out and setting phenomenal goal scoring records and Messi still established clear daylight between the two of them.

Almost become customary for us to open up Real's match report every week to see Ronaldo's banged in 2 goals every weekend and the season ends with Barca going home with all the trophies.

It is phenomenal when you think about it in terms of statistics. We're not likely to ever see players like those 2 in our lifetimes. I will always prefer a player who is more enjoyable to watch with worse stats than Ronaldo (best example being Messi right now).

Funny how those 'midget' fans couldn't wait to mention his name in Ronaldo's thread. Just why?

Because this is a football forum and I came here to spend 5 minutes posting about football.

Wonderful bit of name calling btw, how old are you?

Ya, David May was a much better player than Matt Le Tissier as well. Le Tiss, with all his skill, never took home a trophy like.

Great player one of the best ever. But unless it favours us finically then no way would I want him back at Old Trafford.
