In my head, I cannot see this happening, but I couldn't see Ibra coming either, due to the lack of CL football and the fact that he would likely still want to give himself a chance of achieving that before retiring.

Prices have changed, to whoever said that only Messi, Neymar, Suarez are worth 100 million, these players are actually worth at least double that in todays market. As a club you should get with the times to stay relevant, because chances are prices are going to be even higher next year and the one after that.

The fee. I think it is ridiculous to pay £100m for a box to box midfielder when we could get a world class attacking player for less. Just my opinion.
Madrid and Barcelona are mostly shying away because they don't need him they want him on the other hand we need him. If we had Modric and Kroos we wouldn't be so desperate for him heck even one of those would be enough for us.

This. We didn't become the worlds best club by being stuck in the past. I am okay with any price for Pogba unless there was an alternative with comparable qualities available for lower fee.
And since we can only field 11 players at a time , Pogba > two or three worse midfielders.
There's nothing reliable saying we're close to getting him, but there's plenty of reliable sources saying we're in for him. I think it's 50/50 at the moment whether he'll join. I can't see Madrid matching either the fee or wages we'd offer, but then the question is can Mino convince Pogba to join, when he likely wants to move to Spain. Saying that, even if we do sign him, I think he would stay for 3/4 years maximum before moving to Madrid (if he proves himself). So if this were to happen, we need to make sure he's under contract (offering him regular contracts with bonus incentives) otherwise we would't be able to get a decent fee when selling (of course I'm speculating way too much here).

I've seen figures of £65m, £80m, 100m euros as well. £100m is obviously the higher figure and therefore people are running with that.
If your basing you not wanting Pogba because of £100m, you should wait to keep debating this issue until it's actually confirmed. If you don't like the player, that's a different conversation altogether.

Hey, so Matuidi is reportedly up for sale, he would be a fantastic alternative to Pogba and shouldnt be overlooked, his pass for Girouds goal last night was world class to say the least. Veratti is pie in the sky and would be the ideal choice if we cant get Pogba. The reason I mention Draxler is even though he is a purely attacking midfielder he would work well in the middle in an advanced role along side a holder and box to box. As for everyone slating Matic, hes had one bad season and one fantastic season and that first season he was a key player and a rather brilliant one at that for a title winning side. I wouldnt scoff at him so quickly.
As for the sources reporting, the only solid ones have said he would prefer Madrid, there are rumblings of meetings this week and I am sure we will hear more news but its all leading to a rather inevitable conclusion of Pogba joining Madrid.
Also I see people saying "Oh they will sell Kroos or Modric then and we will buy one of those." No chance. Madrid dont operate like other clubs they will happily stock pile players, currently they have James, Isco, Jese, Verane just chilling on the bench and they dont give a sod if they don't need them and I would imagine the players don't mind as long as they get to show their faces in some smaller games in the season, most (if being sold) are to raise funds. So I don't think its hard to imagine Pogba JOINING Modric and Kroos in midfield rather than replacing them.
Say what you want about Pogba but he has the size and athleticism to provide enough defensive cover in La Liga and they seem to rotate roles in the middle (Kroos, Modric) they could easily rotate another option in there, when I say rotate, I mean in-play as in, one will drop deep as the other breaks forwards, no reason as to why Pogba couldnt also be in the same line up in some games and they drop a play-maker in bigger games.

One thing ill comment on with the price, is that it really nags me when posters comment on somebody being "overpriced" "wont pay that" when its abundantly clear they are basing this off purely footballing ability. the same was done with Nay Sayers in the zlatan thread about his wages.

It takes into account the total value of the player over the projected length of the contract for the organisation in all facets. Even though he's not one of the worlds elite yet, Pogba has the global profile for it, he's a superstar in commercial and marketing potential and that is a major asset for Manchester united as an organisation and that is factored into the pricetag.

The one thing you cant levy at the Glazers is that they understand money, they understand profit, the only way this move bombs is if he gets a career ending injury which is a risk for any transfer. lets not forget the fee isn't a lump sum. it would be structured heavily with addons to minimise risk, there's probably a 10m balon'dor clause etc

I don't quite understand this. Maybe we should all stop debating full stop until an official bid is launched? Most the outlets are saying ~123m EUR (or £100m) rather than the latter numbers. I'm going by what most the reports are saying, because that's all we can really do at the moment.
They can spend £100m on Pogba and have signed a terrific midfielder. But I question whether Sir Alex would have done the same had he been our manager. An astute move in my opinion would be to purchase 3 very good proven talents and balance the squad. Woodward wants a brand signing, its rather obvious given his attempt to capture Neymar and Mueller, almost like he wants a statement signing to cement his position.
Obviously, such players fit into our team perfectly so there are no complaints for bringing them in, but the fee is questionable for Pogba. Respective to his position, he's not quite the player Mueller is and apparently commands the same fee.
