Pre-season friendly Manchester City - Manchester United | Match cancelled

Bloody hell, I bet this has knocked that smile off Woody's face - he's gone all that way for nothing!

I hope those who complain about these Asian tours are the ones unhappy with big money signings. If not then I fail to understand how they can't see the two are interdependent.

The best things now is for the weather to calm down a bit so that the team can get back as soon as possible. Maybe a domestic friendly can be arranged at short notice before heading to Sweden.

who ever counts it has a trophy needs to give their heads a wobble.

David says Hello...

Not watched many Charity Shield games, then, have you?

Guys I've found Moyes' caf account.

glorified friendly is all the CS has ever been.
Good day for the fans at Wembley in the sun ( hopefully) but thats about it, who ever counts it has a trophy needs to give their heads a wobble.

I am not saying that it is as competitive as any other fixtures and winning CS is a big deal but it definitely is no friendly as well with some good games in the past. It is simply a morale boosting way to start your season and set yourself up for the season.

Moyes did win it as far as I remember and it went all downhill for him from there on :p

I do watch all CS games and they are quite fun, but would not count it as friendly.

our best ever season , the Treble was after a 3-0 hammering from Arsenal.
Winning the CS is no big deal , well not for me, never counted it in sliverwear won.

It's been a bit of a shambles this trip. I get that a club our size has commercial duties but when it comes to the detriment of actual preparation for the season it's not on

they move cities and build skyscrapers like it's nothing, why can't they put proper turf and drainage system on their stadiums?

In my opinion this is the best thing that could have happened. We can continue with our proper preparation for the season without that affecting our marketing strategy. This Manchester Derby, Mourinho vs Guardiola , "friendly" was a farce. That game can never be a friendly.

Well, if it is because of the pitch, you would have to question our preparation. Wouldn't we send people over to inspect such things a month ahead of time?

In 2005 and 2007-2010 the team who won the CS went on to win the league. I don't think it's happened since. Then again the losers haven't won the league since Arsenal in 2003-04, so how much can we really read into it? Probably no more than how tough back to back titles are and the variety of teams that can win the league each season.

Is there a thread on Rooney testimonial??
Any team announcements made?

He did a facebook live with questions about the testimonial and other stuff. Don't think there was anything about the who would play in the testimonial though.

As I recall - there was a period in the early 2000 - when the team who lost the CS, lwon the league. It happened rather frequently.

No, that has only happened three times since 2000.

2000: Chelsea 2-0 United (United won the league)
2001: Liverpool 2-1 United (Arsenal)
2002: Arsenal 1-0 Liverpool (United)
2003: United* 1-1 Arsenal (Arsenal)
2004: Arsenal 3-1 United (Chelsea)
2005: Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal (Chelsea)
2006: Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea (United)
2007: United* 1-1 Chelsea (United)
2008: United* 0-0 Portsmouth (United)
2009: Chelsea* 2-2 United (Chelsea)
2010: United 3-1 Chelsea (United)
2011: United 3-2 City (City)
2012: City 3-2 Chelsea (United)
2013: United 2-0 Wigan (City)
2014: Arsenal 3-0 City (Chelsea)
2015: Arsenal 1-0 Chelsea (Leicester)

*Won after penalties

The fact that Rooney and Smalling traipsed out there and have not even had a minute. They might as well have trained at home. All they did was sponsor stuff.

Not sure how many friendlies we have left to play but shouldn't another game be quickly arranged nearer home ? Seems to me there have been too few before an all important season. All important in the sense that Mourinho is almost the last hope to set us back rapidly on course. If he can't do it wih all the money that's been spent and after Leceister won the league last season, then...Hit the ground running etc

Somewhere in Portugal a certain guy by the name LvG has a sarcastic smile of his face thinking aloud " I Told you so"

Louis van Gaal says Manchester United’s China trip ‘not good preparation’

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/apr/02/louis-van-gaal-manchester-united-china-trip

I was involved in every step of the planning, the club wanted to go for a fortnight but I got it down to eight days, which is more like six days,” he said. “I have played as a player in a tournament in Shanghai and we could not train. It is only because of the commercial reasons that we are going. I know a club like Manchester United must do that, but it is not a very good preparation, because we will have a lot of players involved in the European Championships who will be tired.”

“I shall try to do some training but the humidity is so high that when I was there we could only do it at seven in the morning or nine in the evening,” Van Gaal said. “Having said that, when I was with Sparta Rotterdam we won the tournament. Then we went home and won the next six league matches. The training was no use, but it seemed to work from a team-building point of view.”

why ? you would expect an stadium of that quality to have a decent playing pitch, also the amount of rain they have had recently is more that most have ever seen.

I just would have thought they'd check the facilities before they send £400m worth of easily-damaged goods over to play.

I would have thought they'd have checked the training facilities and hotels were up to snuff.

Phil Jones leg would have fallen off if he even got a whiff of that pitch

yeah I can see your point, but would you expect say Bayen Munich to send somebody to check over pitches in this country or US for example, football in China is pretty big , you would expect them to be top notch.

Gutted, because I was looking forward to this, but looking at the pictures, it was definitely the right decision.

It also means Man City fans won't have to suffer the embarrassment of our fans outnumbering them by a big difference.
