Television The Caf' Anime Thread

Aye, Clannad is great, and After Story is even better, IMO. Clannad sets the pace and introduces the whole cast (well, almost), and After Story...

rips everything apart.
After Story Episode 18. :(

Currently watching Monster after reading on here that it´s supposed to be quite good. Nearly stopped after the first episode because it looked a bit boring. Now i´m at episode 33 and completely hooked.

At the same time i´m also following the new anime Re:Zero, which i think has been brilliant so far (not finished yet). I just love this "guy gets sucked into fantasy world" setting.

Watched a few episodes of From the New World and I find it kinda bewildering, but also intriguing so far. Not much backstory, wonky animation style that seems to subtly change all the time and is a bit too 'cute' at times for me. It reminds me a bit of Never Let Me Go.

Also watched some episodes of Re:Zero which I find pretty engaging so far but also a bit guilty of being a bit too 'cute'.

I found the whole first half a bit messy, but it is worth sticking with.

Episode 49 gets me everytime!

Gosh, I forgot all about this episode. It was quite emotional for me. That bit with the teacher and the hooker...It really caught me off guard. Even worse was the way his face changed from an innocent boy to a kind of demented, psychopathic, lunatic was kind of disturbing. Bloody Johan.

Good choice sticking with it! Personally, I enjoyed it right from the get go but I can see why others wouldn't, so I'm glad you persisted with it as it's definitely worthwhile.

Just finished Ergo Proxy, and enjoyed it. Liked the animation, the symbolism and references and the story on the whole. Thought the characters were a bit boring, but well-suited to their roles in the narrative.

Watched the first series of Black Lagoon, it's decent but I think it's lacking some underlying stories, like Cowboy Bebop has for an example, and goals. Also, for the first time I kinda contemplated switching to the dub as it's pretty weird with everyone speaking Japanese when there's so many different nationalities, and so many English words and references.

Has anyone seen the amime Ajin: Demi Human? It's on Netflix and seems to be highly rated

Ajin's alright. It's decent entertainment and all on the surface, so no slow-burning philosophical explorations. The protagonist and antagonist were ineresting characters iirc. The CGI puts some people off but it's never really been a problem for me unless it was extremely poor, which isn't the case in Ajin. I don't think I actually finished it but I thought it was a bit better than the often compared Tokyo Ghoul anime. The action was a lot more expository too.

Just watched the final episode and I agree with all of this, characters were a weak point and I thought the beginning and the end were good but the middle was kinda plodding.

Second and third series were better, but still I'd rate it nothing more than just decent.

Re:Zero is the first show besides One Piece that I've started following on a weekly basis, it kinda sucks, I'm so used to binge watch anime. It's a really gripping show though, I'd recommend it to anyone, you following it @Invictus?

Feel like I'd like Re:Zero more if
Ram and Rem
never existed. It's trying to do a lot of things so sometimes it can feel unfocused, and the main character can be very testing to watch, but I like it so far.

Who is Rem?

Nope, not really. Been meaning to start it, but I'm only one week into a 3 month long self-imposed anime exile. Watching Czas Honoru instead. And after that - Hatufim.

Was the ending as bad as people made it out to be? I stopped watching when the anime got cancelled aka after
Ichigo beat Aizen
I stopped there as well. I did follow bits and pieces in anime. To be honest since that point I've read more bleach wikia than bleach manga. Still didn't follow most of the stuff before the end and just read the final chapter - and it was well - bizarre.

Personally thought the ending was a massive anticlimax which leaves you asking yourself "wait.... that´s it?".

Love the anime so far, but with only 3 episodes left i feel like they could end up rushing it too much at the end.

It's based on a web novel and is only going to cover the first 3 volumes. In that sense it's been fairly well paced.

But the web novel is up to 6 volumes now and is apparently only just at the half way mark.

Ok i didn´t know about the web novel. Thought i read somewhere that it would be only one season, so i expected a possible ending to be a bit rushed.

I think it's pretty likely it'll get a second season eventually, given the hype. But probably not for 18 months or so.

The ending sucked as much as you can expect. Let's just say that even the anime-ending was better, which in itself is a tragedy.

@Aldo @DeOddi @Odegaard I see, I guess that makes me a feel a teeny weeny little bit better about having to stop watching the anime due to it being cancelled. A shame I was really excited to see T.H progress.

In the middle of FMA: Brotherhood. I think that I prefer the original FMA.

You'd think a less than faithful adaptation of a manga would be a bit divisive but nearly everyone I've asked about this prefers the original. I haven't seen the original yet, but what would you say swings it for you stylistically? (unless the only major differences are plot-wise in which case I'd rather not have any spoilers :D)

To be fair, it might be just preference and because I saw the original first.

Some little things here and there, like Lust being far better in the original anime (on the other side, Crimson Alchemist is quite better on Brotherhood), the introduction and the relationship of characters being better on the original anime. I also prefer the main antagonist there to Father, although this might change by the end of the Brotherhood.

I rewatched them back to back not long ago and I think Brotherhood just edges it for me. I did enjoy the more darker tone of the original though.

Definitely. Brotherhood spends too much time trying to look funnier.

Since Cowboy Bebop won't play on my Kindle till I convert it, started watching One Punch Man. Just 3 episodes in and I like it very much. Genuinely funny to a fault. Was watching it in subway and own up to a loud giggle or two. Think I'm still in build-up phase as story hasn't progressed much...but still highly entertaining.

Have to stop myself from binge watching it.

Just finished 'Boku Dake Ga Inai Machi'. It was pretty good. Definitely worth a watch. It's only 12 episodes(roughly 4 hours), so it's easy to binge when you have nothing better to do.

Best anime movie since Princess Kaguya and Wolf Children.

Finished One Punch Man. Saitama is just hilarious. It would have been better if they had constructed an overarching plot in the season. Instead they tease with Amai Msk without furthering the story at all.

Still enjoyable and entertaining watch. So much fun! Rating 7/10.
