Cavani's missed chances vs Metz & let's talk about di maria too

I remember under Mourinho in Madrid he worked hard for the team.
Absolute nonsense. Di Maria was one of his most favourite players at Madrid & is clearly a better player.

Yeah...the idea that Di Maria isn't a hard worker is really doing my head in. He was the engine that drove that Madrid team.

He would've fit perfectly next to Pogba and a holding mid in a 3 man midfield. It's a shame he didn't have the mettle to wait out one more year of LVG.

Also, one from the Copa lately.

One thing for sure, Cavani always provides a good chuckle and amusement.

When the guy goofs up is always spectacular.

The big difference being both consistently average on the top games for both club and country.

Why do you think his managers play him out of position so consistently when he is such a 'beast'?

Unless they too ,just like us fail to realize his beastiness.
Because when you have goats like Forlan and Suarez what choice do you have?

People still think he's better than he is because with his cheek-bones and hair he looks like a great striker. Instead he's a slightly better Dzeko, and a poor player to have as the main striker for a club like PSG.
Dzeko and Cavani shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

It's the reason he was shifted left as he lacks composure to be a #9
Also  at people saying they wouldn't have Di Maria back while he was a coward he would be perfect under Mou and are RW is lacking a bit of pace and skill as I see Miki as a #10

Christ. How easy is that league. They could score 10 every game easily. No wonder he scores so many goals. It's almost by default.

It's too early to judge Cavani. Zlatan used to be our main CF so that Cavani played on the right flank for 2 seasons and then 1 season on the left.

New coach. No injury issues. The only one CF. Everything is in place for him to regain the confidence he has lost.

In October, we will know whether he is still a world-class top scorer.

Dzeko and Cavani shouldn't be used in the same sentence.

Yeah. Not the same profession.

He scored 3 goals against Chelsea in the last 3 seasons, 3 goals by default

He hasn't progressed at all since his move to PSG. I do think at Napoli he was a terrific striker.

He regressed, playing second fiddle to Ibrahimovic shot his confidence and he lost completely his spontaneity. The same thing happened to Gameiro.

Hype aside, cavani has over 25 goals a season in each of the past 6 seasons. 4 of them were over 30 in a season. About 180 in 280 games. Considering hes spent the last 3 years on the wing a lot of the time, its a great goal scoring record.

In fact even if you ignore that, its still great.

I still have no idea why we signed him in the first place, even if I went into muppet overdrive when it happened. Di Maria is the least van Gaal player I can think of. Pure instinct, flair and attacking intent playing for a manager who wants to grind down opponents with measured, boring possession football. One of the weirdest signings ever, all things considered.
Tbf you're oversimplifying Van Gaal's approach. In the ideal world he has fast and skillful wingers who stretch the play and take the defenders on, being the main source of improvisation in the team. But he never succeeded in building it with us.

I think him and Higuain have a bet on who can piss off their fans and fellow players the most in big games.

Yes it looks bad and it's not the first time for Cavani, but there's a silver lining: although he didn't score he got himself many chances, his movement is very useful for the team and the understanding is very good with the AMs.

Metz at home is one of the easiest games this season but Emery's system seems to play to his strengths and Cavani being a bit of a streaky player the goals will start to flow soon enough. In the meantime Kurzawa scores one goal a game so who needs a striker?

People going crazy about Di Maria making multiple chances against FC Metz.. Great player but seriously the guy couldn't be arsed playing at Manchester United. He'd sooner play his peak years in the French league. Weak mentality.

Both are brilliant players. To say otherwise would be a complete lack of knowledge.

Di Maria would have been amazing under Mourinho at United. But what did we expect when we chose Ashley Young over him every week? That's enough to make anyone say "feck this shit, I'm out."

Shamelessly stolen from reddit.

Hilarious, the game could go on for another year and he still wouldn't score.

I've never rated Cavani and I was terrified when we were being linked with him.
But Di Maria
Why did you leave us Di Maria.... :(

It's unbelievable how shite this guy is.

I think that's pretty harsh. He did score. His finishing isn't good enough for an elite team but his movement is far from shite and right up there as one of the best.

Ibra's shadow is heavy.

His movement is superb, he just seems to freeze when it comes to the all important part.

His movement is great but everything else is just terrible.

That's incredible. Don't think I've ever seen a striker miss that many chances in a game.

When you look at his goal record it's pretty good. When you watch him play, you think you must have been looking at the wrong players stats.

He makes terrific runs, hence why he gets so many chances. Unfortunately for him, he isn't the greatest finisher.

It's incredible that he has scored a feck load of goals really. Whenever I've watched him live, he's been a donkey in front of goal.

He's amazing off the ball. He's really intelligent and got a decent amount of pace and strength. That being said, his finishing is just around Theo Walcott level.
I'm really curious towards why PSG didn't sign a backup striker this window. Lacazette would have been the ideal signing for them..

Aye, think his scoring record is better than 1 in 2. I watch a lot of PSG games and it seems that his confidence is even worse this season. His attitude is top class and it's one of the main reasons why his movement is superb, arguably top three in world football in that regard, but is it really worth it if he misses sitters every week? I would have expected PSG to sign a striker as back-up/competition, but it looks like they'll take a big risk with him being the main main up front. Which is simply not going to work out well at this rate, especially in the CL.

In all honesty, the only thing he lacks is a cool head when it really matters. For a striker that's a bit of a problem though.

Most of the chances that fell to him today were due to his pace, strength and movement. Most other strikers wouldn't get to the point where there was a chance to feck up in the first place. If he can sort his head out he'll score a lot of goals this season.
