No teams have chances galore like today or Stoke every game.
Difference from last few years is we seem able to play our way through teams more frequent, so that's a positive to build on.
I'm not saying it's all negative.

We play much better football than we have in the last 3 years but our finishing is diabolical at times.

For a club of our stature, that isn't something to be happy about.

Agree it's not nearly good enough but we simply have to let Mourinho do his job here and build.
Result wise it's awful but we've seen some really good play and have some very good players.

Exactlty,I couldnt see anything else wrong he did in the game that would claim he had a shocker.

The red was enough to call it a shocker because in the context of the game it was a massive decision, and he got it wrong.

The trip on Darmian was also arguably a penalty, people can say he went down easily but the FB still dangled out a leg and caught him.

I'm pretty sure he could have given a 2nd yellow to Flanagan for handball with about 5 minutes to go. That may not have made much of a difference, but it still feels unjust.

Listen, it wasn't Clattenburg's fault we couldn't score and get the win we deserved, for that the players can only blame themselves. But all the big decisions went Burnley's way, which is the salt in the wound for a lot of us.

The phrase 'one of those days' has been misused a lot in the last 3 years. Today I think it fits, we created lots of chances and attacked in waves with some lovely touches.

Agreed.

Only watched the second half but we were weaving some very nice combinations and, despite being a man down we looked threatening. Rooney and Ibra should've decided the game today for us, that was 2 poor misses.

We'll improve but seeing the shite during the last 3 years it is not going to be easy.

We need a Proper Strikers or to play Rashford or Martial upfront, this ZLATAN experiment is not working and may cost Jose his Job if he persists with him.
If that useless moronic ref is the best in England then we have a major problem,I have been going to football games for a long time and that is the worst individual performance I have ever seen from a ref.
Bring on the Swans...

You simulate that game 100 times and we win it 95. Easily.

I know we needed three points but that was an excellent performance. Gotta keep it up.

Enjoyed the game. Thats what I want to see attacking football and some excitement. Remember last season when almost every home match was 0-0 at half time with no shots on goal. Though the ref got all the decisions right today with the exception of the second yellow for Herrera. The two subs were criminal and Mourinho has a major job on his hands to turn this around. Potentially the challenge of getting us to challenge for the EPL will be greater than beating Barca to La Liga

He didnt have the benefit of video replays like the rest of us do.
Didn't think that was a pen to be honest, did he leave his leg after he won the ball as I havent seen those replays online ?

5. De Gea, Rashford, Lingard, Rooney and Pogba. A fair chunk of them!

The rest? Rojo, Depay, Darmian, Ibrahimovic etc haven't the mentality
Rooney wasn't in the starting line up today which was the question asked. Pogba and Lingard were reserve team players trying to get minutes in the first team and Rashford was 15 years old.

That leaves DDG from the starting 11 that was an actual SAF first team player(played regularly for him). He has made 1 or 2 mistakes this season but has by far been the best player at the club over the last 3 seasons.
Nothing to blame SAF for here.

The performance was very good IMO. We were un lucky at all. Mata should have stayed on. Rooney and Fellaini should be away from playing.

Even if we kept 11 on the pitch, I'd say we wouldn't have scored. Just one of those bloody days. Frustrating as feckityfeck.

Need to go on a run pronto. Need to build momentum and points up, as the others around us getting it done

Disappointing, worse seeing all these average teams around us picking up points. Shit finishing, shit subs. I know people are saying we played well, but it's Burnley and Stoke at home, and we can't score.

Yeah. Agree with all of that. We've an uphill battle ahead but at least we're good to watch. That makes such a difference to how I see this team. Being outside the title race I can handle. For a season or two more anyway. Being bad to watch was unbearable.

Just got back from the game. Thought we played well. Boos when fellaini come on and at the final whistle pissed me right off though. We need a goal, make the player feel like shit before he comes on.....that will work. More wound up about that than the result tbh

Just got back from OT and once again a little shocked by the majority of comments slating the team.

Yes we missed some fantastic changes but today (along with Leicester/Stoke games) was the best football we'd played at times in the last 3 years.

Also, Clattenberg robbed us of a penalty and reduced us to 10 men whilst allowing the Burnley players to waste time at every single opportunity.

I don't know how Zlatan missed that last chance he had. Mourinho likes to say he doesn't blame his players for missing chances, but when you've missed as many chances as Zlatan has this season, it's probably time to do something. We'd be a lot closer to the top of the league if he'd converted his chances like a supposed top striker should.

We played well, but we really need to be more clinical. The less said about the referee the better.

Glad to hear the vibe at OT was less lily-livered than the vibe on here.

Thick flurry of games,we need some fresh legs to light up and Miki on bench is not helping.

I'm absolutely fecking livid. We're in crisis, no two ways about it. 2 points from the last 9 and 15 from a possible 30. 8 points off the top and 5 away from top 4.

The numbers and the table don't lie, we can say today was one of those days all we like but the fact is, we're currently a top 8 side, nothing more, and the table is proof of that.

I was all for Mourinho prior to the season starting and was certainly behind all the players he's brought in, but the fact is it isn't working and he needs to fix it, fast. He's paid to make big and difficult decisions and he has some to make, any further delay and we're destined for yet another season of mediocrity - 4 on the bounce.

I'm sick of watching the scousers and city batter teams while we stutter on and to retain any hope of a reasonable season, Jose has to up it, immediately.

Don't know how we didn't win that.
Not a fantastic performance but all over Burnley even with 10
Herrera being sent off didn't help and Rooney and Fellaini did nothing when coming on, Rooney very poor.

Don't like how we set up though, we have nothing on the right wing, Darmian on his own again as Lingard always goes wandering, keeps happening and then gets too congested in the middle.
I so hope Martial and or Mkhi get a run in the team to give us more width

Mata always probing and MOM
Pogba good
Just no luck and Clattenburg anxious to penalise whenever he could
Zlatan had some good moments in build up but his finishing is right off, loss of confidence, is that possible

Best we have played in a long time, some amazing play around the box and Heaton was immense.

I don't get the comments talking about crisis - under VG we played boring fotball and had like 1 or 2 shots on target. Today we were as dominant as I can remember and it was v bad finishing combined with Heaton & bad luck.

I have faith, muh more so than in recent years. We will steadily rise up the table over the season - I don't think we'll win the PL but we will make top 4.

That's really good to hear. Jose needs to calm himself and the team down, and encourage them to keep going. We're obviously improving somehow. Just needs his players to do overtime in training on finishing.

The problem for Mourinho is Zlatan was brought in to play the RVP role for United, and he is failing badly. He seems to have left his scoring boots back at PSG. Once he remembers how to put balls inside the net, we won't look back.

Two absolutely sensational performances from goalkeepers in the Stoke and Burnley games have cost us 4 points. In terms of movement, interplay and chance creation you can't fault us - we just need to finish these chances! Mourinho's United machine is starting to click and things can only get better :)

Football works in cycles. We are where we are.

You can't underestimate the size of the task that was handed to Mourinho. There are myriad of reasons why we find ourselves in such a position.

Mourinho can't legislate for the finishing today. That responsibly falls on the players. He also can't account for Zlatan enduring such a torrid spell in front of goal - because it's never damn well happened.

His work lies in the mentality of the team. And wow does he have some work to do on that front. Work that cannot be undertaken in a few months. It takes times.

I for one am glad Mourinho is here. And I am encouraged by the steps he and the club are taking as a whole.

Patience is a virtue. Mourinho will lead us back into the Champions League. And whilst we're a long way off, I'd be stunned if he doesn't take us to a European final. Mainly because I don't see him leaving until he does so.

I'm 100% behind Jose, as I said in my original post, he was and still is the right person in my view.

However, he's got to make some changes and deal with some major issues in the team otherwise the season will be another write-off. Some of our best and most creative players can't even get on the bench yet we've others there who are Championship players and are no where near the standard to achieve top 4.

If today was an isolated incident, 2 dropped points at home against a team likely to be relegated, then it would be less of a concern. Unfortunately it isn't a one-off, we have 15 points out of a possible 30.

From where we sit today, both in the table and how we're playing, it'd take a miracle for us to make top 4, never mind challenge for the league, which as far as I'm concerned is unacceptable hence my point about big decisions for Jose and making them quickly.

Michael Owen said something during the Liverpool game that seems to be ringing true.

He mentioned how we could park the bus against most teams, but also added that the challenge was when we faced similar tactics ourselves. We really struggle to break down teams and I don't think it's merely down to bad luck.

I think it will cost us a lot of points especially away from home where we create far less chances.
We had no issues breaking them, we simply could not finish.

Had RVN or RVP or Cole played, they'd have scored 4 goals each

Predicted a draw, but didn't think we'd have ... 37 (?) finishes and not a single goal. I guess things are going to stay bad or get worse before they get better. They'll get better ... at some point.

I remember saying something like if we had as many chances in the Stoke game in any other game, we would win. Well lo and behold... :(
