Wayne Rooney withdraws from England squad, minor knee injury

Can we not sack him for that? Tell me we can

Hope he scores and we see some sort of drunken celebration. The celebration vs Spurs was fantastic after the whole Bardsley nonsense in the media.

Yeah, that's totally what we want after this total 'nonsense in the media'.

So if he plays well, scores and celebrates that way, it's not something you'd want? Or you rather he be dropped than score and do well in a big game?

I'd rather he didn't play again if drinking alcohol until the early hours of the morning is what he gets up to mid-week when he should be training with the national team and preparing for matches.

I do think fans tend to overreact to footballers smoking/drinking every once in a while. Yeah he shouldn't be having that much to drink but is it really that big a deal if he drinks or Wilshere smokes once in a while? Or do footballers not enjoy their life as long as it's not affecting their performance.

While on international duty its surely different?

That's the evidence you should have waited for. Whether it's Rooney, Pogba, Steven Gerard or Barack Obama... don't jump the gun just because you have an axe to grind.

The fact there's a laughing smiley in there says everything. No other United player would get that treatment on this site.

Wasn't it on the Saturday night? Don't players have the off on Sunday for training and their match was tonight. I'm not really justifying his partying late into the night but I do think too much is made of players having a bit of fun once in a while. I'm sure there are plenty of times they go drinking with friends and family mid season and you never hear about it.

As far as I know, there's very strict protocol on basketball and NFL football players against smoking. I actually do wonder why it's so common to see top flight footballers smoke when it's bad for the lungs.

Unless they're chain smokers, I don't think a smoke a week or two will really do them much harm. If Rooney were in the form of his life, this would be a non issue really but the English media likes to make a big deal about anything involving their players.

Tbh could some of his decline be down to his off field habits (loves a pint does Wayne)?

People say he's burnt out, which is possible but Ronaldo and Zlatan are older and played more games but they're not burnt out, they've looked after themselves much better.

If you have an agenda you'll believe anything, in your case your agenda will blind you.
I have no agenda. I don't think Rooney is good enough to play in United's first choice XI. But that doesn't mean I'll believe any old bollocks just so I can character assassinate him.

to be fair those pics could be anyone

All jokes aside, as a serious athlete you should not be drinking to excess or smoking. The time to get shit faced is when you're retired.

Rooney has form for this though. I'm fairly certain he turned up hungover at training whilst SAF was still here. There's also little snippets about him liking to have a drink.

Fair dos!

Those pics reflect badly on him and now it's worth criticising him. Before they came out, it wasn't a story worth putting much stock in. The Sun doesn't deserve that much respect.

The problem here is that everyone's lungs are different. You can smoke 1-2 packs per day and still have a healthier set than a top flight footballer who smokes 1-2 sticks per week. Most of it is down to genetics.

Just to be clear, not having a go at Rooney here. I'm just wondering why football in general is more tolerant about smoking.

Look, it's fecking annoying. Against Swansea he looked much fitter than he's looked for a while and he would have turned up for the Arsenal game and looked sluggish again, all because he'd been on a bender.

If you're the captain of the club and earning 250K PW, I'd expect much better.

I'm so bored of robotic footballers that this has cheered me up.

That picture is a beauty. We've all been there.

I hardly think he'd look sluggish because he had a lot of drinks 6 days prior to the game.

Ridiculous. I'd actually started to feel a bit sorry for him, as I often do when great athletes hit the wall and struggle. But what a wanker.

If he's injured he shouldn't be getting hammered on Sunday morning so he's hanging for the next 2 days. And if he wasn't injured, then he shouldn't be getting hammered on Sunday morning so he's hanging for the next 2 days

I wouldn't trust him to not touch another one before then. There's no way you should be drinking yourself shitless until 5am when you're an athlete.

During the summer break, fine, not many people would have a problem. Bang in the middle of a season in which you've looked sluggish and over weight in, I'm not having that.

That looks like one of those drunken facebook photos that you insist your friends take down after a night on the lash :lol:

He really doesnt help himself does he? At least cover up the fecking England gear.
