Premier League weekend fixtures 11/12/13 August

Good first half. Okaka and Doucoure dominating the central areas. Okaka really puts himself about, for forward player he drops into the middle a lot. Playing almost as a false nine.

Looks to me like Liverpool's biggest problem this match isn't defence, but rahter their midfield. Little control, basically no patience at all, always trying Hollywood through balls toward Salah and Mane from deep, which mostly just end up turning position over to Watford.

It´s quality in midfield and defense, but it´s also attacking patterns. Gundogan said Dortmund never practised attacking patterns and it tells with Liverpool. There are no developed movements, no incorporation of the fullbacks at all. Their whole attacking plan is to win the ball high up the pitch, when the opposing team is disorganised/undermanned and then finish quickly in the spaces. They are completely clueless how to break down deep-sitting teams and when your two best playmakers are missing with Coutinho and Lallana it only gets worse. I bet they´ll do well against the top teams again. Unfortunately it does not look like Klopp has a Plan B.

God how I missed good ol' EPL! Last night's game was a blast and this one is shaping up to be the same, love it.

Once the 2nd guy has the ball it's a new phase of play, he's onside, and can score fairly.
It´s a BS rule, but I don´t understand why teams don´t exploit it more often. I´d just have my striker stand on the penalty spot the whole game, and work the "new phase of play"-rule all day long.

Mane aside, Liverpool look awful, but no way Watford are gonna maintain this level. Fully except Liverpool to step it up now and grab a win.
I don't think Watford have really been maintaining an artificially high level. I'd say this is probably about their norm. Liverpool are well below their norm, though.

I now think we're watching different games. Obviously Watford aren't the best team in the league, but they've been intricate in their passing and build up, disciplined in their positioning, and competitive across the park. What more do you want from them?

Really? I think they look very cumbersome with their passing. Cleverly is the only one who looks somewhat assured.

feck me Redknapp and Carragher had a bit of a falling out there. Trust Jamie to try to argue about the art of defending with Carragher ffs

Perhaps people were a bit hasty on here when they scoffed at the prospect of signing Mane two seasons ago when the rumors started near the end of that summer.

Let's believe in Perisic.

Every season Liverpool have a player that will drag them into being competitive, even when they're not playing well. Stevie G, Torres, Suarez, Coutinho... this season it looks like it will be Mane.

Jamie is just like any other football fan, like us he knows feck all about it. Buy this or that one, thats how you fix issue where you place players wrongly in zonal marking to defend corners.

But you still need the winger to get to the byline and get the ball in, and when they do get there the opposition are naturally falling back anyway

I doubt it's that polarized, but no doubt the weaknesses are obvious.

Have a look at that picture of Liverpool's four defenders posted earlier in the thread.

Google the phrase "four clowns" and click the "images" tab.

Compare and laugh.

Early days obviously, and it's only HT in this game also, but that 45 minutes summed up Liverpool, as much as Sane and Salah (not so far today) will cause other teams problems. they really need a new back five, most of their problems are self-inflicted. Moreno is truly awful, Lovren will always cost goals, Mignolet is average at best.
If they lose Coutinho they might struggle a bit, depending on who comes in to replace him if he leaves, they could also be doing with at least one decent holding midfielder who will protect that dodgy rearguard.

I sadly can see Liverpool turning this when Watford get more tired. Come on Watford! Funny that I think both Cleverley and Welbeck has played brilliant so far. Hopefully Hernandez will not join our ex players doing well on sunday.

I'd be inclined to argue there is no new phase of play, I don't super-mind as long as it's consistent though. I think they tend to go with the obvious, some of them would ferociously 'orrible to spot if they were strict about them.

I could swear there are dozens and dozens of more knowledgeable caftards on football than Redknapp
