Good result that puts us back to winning ways with another cleansheet and important 3 points. Satisfactory performance all things considered. No surprise the team hardly got out of second gear with all that rain and the dire atmosphere.

Good Performance. Fellaini MOTM. Ashley Young played well , considering that this was his first batch in ages. Wanted Martial to score, but was not his day.

Mhikhi was unlucky I think today. But he needs to start taking all the chances that come his way. Some other time it might come back to haunt us!

Only disappointing thing of the night was Mata. He was invisible there. Better start scoring soon and racking up the assists or he will be left on the sidelines soon.

Just wanted Rashford to score as soon as he came on. He has now scored on EPL, EL, CL ,FA cup ,League Cup and England debuts. Just read somewhere,, "Don't let Rashford date your sister or daughter, as he will score on the first date!!

Professional performance that's about it. Looked good in spells but sloppy in others. Mata and mikhi were poor. Felliani was fantastic. Need to improve areas such as build up play. Young was a great outlet.

Very good performance. Could've been a few more goals probably too. And most of it without Pogba, hopefully that injury isn't too big. Don't think anyone did poorly, bit sloppy with the finishing from Miki especially but pretty good from everyone. Mkhitaryan probably the biggest reason in terms of our domination and constant attacking in their half, he might lose it a decent amount but he also creates a stupid amount of chances and is always picking up great positions and opening up space. Also his turns on the ball are class. Martial was a threat on the left and did well, though I might be alone in that? Thought he went past his man constantly.

Mata probably the quietest one but he did alright too.

I agree, entire team looked solid, sort of took the foot off the gas towards the end, but solid performance.
I think Mikhi deserves a bit more credit.

It's only a disappointment if you have misguided opinions about what group stage CL atmospheres are like.

They're always awful.

I have only recently started watching games through the likes of Sky or BT, before I would always watch in a bar with the volume off or on domestic tv, where for some reason the volume from the game is lower and the commentators will be on louder. Ever since I switched to Sky and BT I start to realize that our crowd is nowhere near exciting. I'm actually starting to feel a bit ashamed to be honest.
See, I am very passionate about United. I work crazy shift at different time zones, but would try my best to watch every single game, watch pundits discussing the team, get on here and share or read opinions (not just random trash talk) about the team. My issue is that I'm not English, nor is easy to get a visa and come and watch a game. The other day when I watched City dismantle Liverpool what made me biggest negative impression was that even at 5:0 I could hear the players shouting for the ball - I was thinking what bunch of bored crowd there's at the Etihad. And then I watch our game against Basel - there was only one set of fans there - Basel's.

Mata was poor again offers zero creativity

Get jitters with Lindelof defensively he seems to ball watch. He will improve though with time.

Mikhi and martial had good moments but overall did not impact the game enough.

Afro did v well

I liked the fact that we didn't play particularly well and that we lost our captain, but we still managed to grind out a convincing win. Very impressive result from a somewhat unimpressive performance.

Grinding performrnce which delivered a thumping all the same.

Hope Pogba injury is not as bad as it looked.

Came in here thinking 'well at least not even the moaners can have any issue with that performance', only to find that they're still fecking complaining.

I honestly think that unless we win 6-0 every week and never let the opposition so much as have a single shot, some folk won't be satisfied.

I feel very old having to point this out.

  • Manchester United are unbeaten in 32 successive home games in all competitions (W21 D11 L0) and have not lost at Old Trafford for a year (10th September 2016). This is their best unbeaten home run since October 2011 (37 games).
  • Marouane Fellaini's goal was the 100th scored by a Belgian player in the Champions League (excl. OGs).
  • Fellaini's strike was also his 50th in English club football (33 for Everton, 17 for Man Utd).
  • Fellaini's goal was the earliest by a substitute for Manchester United in the Champions League since Ryan Giggs' on February 25th 2003 v Juventus (after 15 mins).
  • Romelu Lukaku became the 13th different player to score on their Champions League debut for Manchester United.
  • This was the first time that two Belgians have scored for the same team in a CL game since October 23rd 2002 (Club Brugge v Galatasaray).
  • Marcus Rashford has now scored on his Premier League, Europa League, Champions League & EFL Cup debuts for Manchester United, as well as his England debut.
  • Marcus Rashford is the fourth English teenager to score a Champions League goal for Manchester United after David Beckham, Wayne Rooney & Phil Jones.

Some interesting stats overall, credit to Jose and the players for having a good CL debut and an overall very solid start of season. As for our guy Fellaini, let's at least spare him the trash talk for tonight as he deserves praise for his perfomance, he is a United player like it or not, try to be supportive of people who try to give their best for our club.

I love that these stats are positive ones again.

Got so sick of "That's team x first win against united in 47 years" and "united have gone six games without a win for the first time since 1914”

We have scored 15 goals in 5 matches ( Super cup aside ) ranging 3 goals per game. I won't say we have the best attacking system in the world but I think we really have a good attack and people are overrating the problems in it.

Last season in this same period we have scored only 7 goals in the first 5 matches, losing 2 matches as well. There's a big improvement in the dynamics of our attacks and number of goals scored no doubt.

Standard CL home tie against fodder. How it should be, felt good never having to worry about the result.

Shame about Pogba, hopefully it wasn't too bad.

We'll see. When those two were fit last season, he was, so…

We are in big trouble if Blind remains first choice for the whole season mate. I can't believe that we didn't sign a LB during the transfer window.

Perhaps, I think he does his job. Still a starter, though.

Good win, good performance. I think only Miki had a really poor game but the rest were fine.

Only disappointment was the crowd who just didn't get going.

Harsh, didn't deliver but was constantly creative and looking to make things happen, covered the most ground in our team too and his dummy might have helped Rashford score. Mata and Martial were worse creatively in the forward positions and were less involved in the match overall too.

Good win, never really looked in danger which was important to get the Champions League campaign up and running. Some really good stuff from Fellaini, Mkhitaryan and Young. Young being a particular highlight for me as it was hist first game back after a long time out, and not his natural position too. Nice for Rashford and Lukaku to continue their goalscoring runs too. Plenty of positives. Unfortunately the Pogba injury stands out as a massive negative. Hope it's not too serious.

Very good start.

Was between Fellaini and Young for motm for me. Fellaini as he was very solid, and of course got a goal, but I gave it to Young because he came in from nowhere, really opened the game up and made the difference for me. Had a better effect on a game than Valencia, and that cross was better than anything he's put in for ages (no one find proof otherwise).

Mhki and Martial - one was almost too involved in the game, and the other wasn't at all.

Rojo is an awful left back and has been decidedly worse than Blind there.

I agree 100% mate. Thought that he was done with us, until he became a revelation centrally. But I do remember him playing left back quite a bit under a Mourinho (please correct me if I'm wrong).

Oh god I can't remember if he did or not. I've purged those memories from my head. I just know he's crap there!

Pogba has been played into the ground lately. You couldn't ask for a better replacement than Fellaini though. Beast of a performance. Lukaku and Young were excellent also.

Who was it that Mourinho complained about trying to play "PlayStation football"? Any player pulling awkward tricks?

The numbers doesn't lie. 3-0 in a CL game is impressive no matter how you look at it. Credit to the team and José.

Fellaini was my MoM. His presence was notable and he was at the right places at the right time. That's impressive.
