Care about well being? Mourinho that season gave Chelsea players extended break and the pre season didn't go well enough to get them back into shape. If anything it's more about not. Sure it's Mourinho's feck up to had this kind of regime. However running into ground is a myth. The team he left behind has qualitythat a competent coach can benefit greatly. It's not some expired team the narrative likes to portrait.
And why did he give them that break? Because he ran them into the ground to get the title home, to which he as good as admitted. Were he went wrong is he thought that extra week was enough to blow off any lingering fatigue from the extortionate efforts he demanded (and got) from the players to bring that title home. It was back to pre season with the same method's and tactics he used to get us over the line and they have a shelf life.
I don't use that period to take away from Jose's great career, but that summer he could have done so many thing's differently to prevent what happened.
Blame always is two fold. Players chose to hide behind the manager and the manager was sacked. To say players have zero responsibility but manager is to blame fully is a joke.
If anything it was Jose who was hiding behind the players. His interviews when he was on his last legs criticising the players (aswel as his ridiculous stunt after Ranieri's sacking), he knew people would lap it up and be manipulated by that and well wasn't he right. Take Hazard for example, at that time he was on 3 and a half year's at Chelsea, never once caused a problem, never complained about the excessive defending duties (most players that level or above would) and was always of good character yet Jose set the narrative he was a snake, and the cult followed.
That said the squad weren't completely innocent but i certainly don't for 1 second believe they (or ANY squad in world football) were basically throwing games. As i said above that doesn't change what a great manager he is, but his actions were the catalyst for what happened.
My question is why did you put yourself through so much torture! I was finding it hard to even watch the Moyes season on TV (but did end up watching all games). This was even worse.
I can't stop, we could be the whipping boys of League 2 and ill go the next weekend thinking change is around the corner

i still to this day can't get my head around what happened in 2015 tho, United under Moyes was very poor for United's standard's but Chelsea 15/16, that was unprecedented, has anyone in England before played so bad in comparison to the squad available to them? Liverpool under Roy was probably the closest but even that was modest in comparison.
