This is the side who came to play us without a recognised striker and attempted to park the bus but it was acceptable because of how much they spent.
They may have been a budget team but they're now one of the best sides in world football

Where is this notion that they parked the bus coming from? Is there another definition of parking the bus that I'm not aware of?

They're playing an uncharacteristically shit Madrid side, it's a good reault, but let's not get carried away.

Killing the game by flooding the midfield while purposely giving up any attacking intent is parking the bus for me.

Wondering the same thing? Can’t say I noticed a big white bus at OT.

Great result for them tonight, they are the best defence in Europe.

Wrong Man Utd have the best defence in Europe.

Good win for spurs but RM were poor today i thought shows how we played the other day as they barely got a sniff.

Statistacly but anyone who knows anything knows Spurs are really the best quality defence in Europe. Just ask Jose, he said as much in his interview after our game.

Proves we're better than Madrid
Europe is ours boys:devil:

I'd say they parked the bus about as much as we parked it against Liverpool, which is to say not at all. Both were a case of respecting the opposition and taking a careful approach.

Anyway, good result for Spurs. Regardless of Real Madrid's form, it'll likely prove a huge confidence booster for the players.

Too early to say if this is Spurs taking the step up and becoming a big club, but it's a pretty big step in the right direction, regardless.

You kind of had the feeling if Real didnt turn up and put in the work Spurs would get the win.
Spurs just wanted it far more, more hunger, desire, put in the graft and came away with a deserved victory.
It was the perfect time to play Real, but they still had to go out there and do it, Real looked humbled at 3-0 down and deservedly so.

Great result for them, but Real are in a bad patch though, so lets not get too carried away.

Still, they have done really well in a difficult group.

I must say the Wembley's atmosphere is now turning into a massive boost for Spurs.

They've done well to get Real and Dortmund at times where they are really struggling, most likely going to top the group now. They absolutely dismantled Real on the break today, they probably could have had 3 more. Great for English football, huge result in Spur's history.

When's the DVD coming out? ;)

Love the playing down .If we had beaten Madrid in the CL it would be talked about for weeks.Great result from them and shows how Pochettino as turned them around.

So what do you call playing with back 6 ,and instructions that only your striker is allowed to cross half way line?

@Blind17
Pulis football?
Spurs played with a back 3 and no striker so there were times when a Spurs CB stepped forward to make it a 5 man central midfield with Son dropping back as well.
If thats not parking the bus then its at least a transit?

Not sure if you are talking about ManUtd vs Spurs, if so you should have switched channels as you were watching replay of Liverpool away game.

Fabulous result regardless of Madrid's form or performance. Very happy for Spurs and its also a good boost for English football.
When was the last time Madrid lost by 3 clear goals?

I thought last night was a great example of why Pochettino (and clearly Mourinho as well) rate Dier so highly. He's not a flashy player, but he gives so much tactical flexibility and cover. Spurs lost one of the best center halfs in the world to injury in the first half, and Dier just slid into the middle of the back 3 with Sanchez going to RCB and the defensive organization continued on seamlessly. It sounds easy to say someone can play CDM and CB, but to do it as fluidly as he does - often in the same match - is quite rare.

He's not a sexy player by any stretch of the imagination, but Spurs don't need a sexy player in that position.

Indeed. That's precisely the reason why our manager at the time, Jesualdo Ferreira, was a big fan of him. He was the first one to use him as DM and right back sometimes.

Oh sarcasm.. I am speaking about our play in general against a semi decent opposition.

As much as Spurs did the business last night, Real barely turned up. Spurs deserved the win and fair play to them for getting the result that clinches qualification after 4 games, but Real were so bad it defied belief at times. You can only beat what is put in front of you, though. I did say at the time when Spurs scored their third that the five minutes before that Real looked like they might get back in the game but the third killed them off. Had Real made it 2-1 with 25 minutes or so left it might have all turned out a bit differently, but it's all academic now anyway.

Agree with this 100%, he is comfortable and proficient in both roles. Still only 23, I could definitely see why Jose would have wanted him. He's not flashy no, but how many CB's/DM's are? Doesnt mind putting a foot in, solid in the air, thought him and Winks were doing well in midfield vs Modric, Kroos, Isco.

He can switch off occasionally such as Martial's goal, but at 23 he has plenty of time to improve his game, concentration and skills.

I prefer my DM to be able to pass the ball and that's why I much prefer Matic and the likes to play there instead of good defensive players who are not so good passers.

It just really depends on how your team is setup - Spurs with the terrific passing from Alderweireld / Vertonghen don't need as much from their DM, and instead need defensive solidity in the middle to allow those 2 CB's to spread wider and get up the field more than most teams would have their CB's play. Dier works perfectly with that pair.

For United with Jones / Smalling / Bailly - you need more passing in the MF and less defensive solidity.

Fair enough. Definitely makes sense.

A proper passing DM is my preference anyway. Even SAF played O'Shea, Phil Neville and even Rio as DM.

How long is Alderweireld injured for?

Two or three weeks apparently. Although i believe he only had a scan yesterday so theoretically there could be a nasty surprise and he is out for longer. Supposedly though it is just a strain. International break has come at the perfect time.

Got to love Pochettino, looks like he's here for the long-haul:

“The most important club in the world is Tottenham,” Pochettino says. “And it is the best club in the world. I need to feel like this and that emotion is real because I cannot be fake. It’s too difficult to create the trust if you don’t really believe and it’s not real, that emotion. Today, Tottenham is in my head 100%. Today, I do not change Tottenham for another position in the world because I am so involved, so focused.

“The club deserves to have people that think only about the club, the fans, the players and the structures – and they provide us with an unbelievable life. It’s important to recognise that. It’s an amazing club and it’s so important for us to pay back the club for the way that they treat us. ...

“Before I arrived to Tottenham, everyone said to me: ‘It’s so difficult to have a very good relationship with Daniel,’” Pochettino says. “But I have discovered a great man. I feel that he trusts in me and I trust him. I don’t care what happens around myself because I know very well that I am so happy here and we have a great relationship.

“It’s not about winning or losing – it’s about trust. And when you achieve that at a club like Tottenham, with massive potential, you have to create something together. You have to create a project. I believe in what we are doing and I believe we can build a fantastic team that can achieve all that we dream.”

Pochettino speaks of the excitement that everyone connected to the club can feel about the new stadium, which is being built adjacent to White Hart Lane and should be ready for the beginning of next season. He has previously said that he has started to think about the first match there, but, for him, it is not so much the reality of the 61,000-seat venue. “It’s more to enjoy the journey [to it] with Daniel,” he says. “I speak every day with him and you feel how he cares about everything. It is impossible not to feel proud and be excited about the future of Tottenham.

“That is the key. It is not only the facilities, it is how Daniel is driving that project. A few weeks ago, myself, Jesús and my staff were at the new stadium with Daniel and the architect, and you can feel that it is not just an empty structure – there is a soul and love; there is care in every single detail. That is what excites me the most.”

I love to work and feel part of the project; to share and create something special. I feel very important at Tottenham, very comfortable and I enjoy the journey a lot. Today, I don’t think about a future elsewhere.”

Tomorrow's papers will be about which big club Poch will be eying up next I'm sure.

International break could not have come at a better time, our players are dropping like flies at the moment.
